Nopheros
In past GTA games the NPCs AI has been terrible, all the way from GTA 1 - GTA IV + EFLC The cities never felt so "alive", trust me I love GTA games, but the AI is not that good, and they don't make the cities feel alive. I hope GTA5 has better and smarter AI, and that the city will actually feel more alive now, like Sleeping dogs, that game had great AI, didn't it? I know the police will be smarter now, and that you will be able to hide from them. I think that GTA5 will feel more alive, seeing that it is gonna be an amazing game, and I have faith in Rockstar that the NPCs will be a lot smarter and actually do things, which they will, as I have read that the NPCs will go to work in the morning, then come home later that day. Or what do you think? Do you completely disagree about the cities not feeling "alive", or do you agree? And in lighter news.. Where the hell is greenrock? r0eladn
I miss greenrock too And IF they go to work and come back. I am going to be a stalker I agree with you on a more 'alive' city. How this should be done, i dont know.
Kill Frenzy!
Didn't you knew? One of the previews said that there will be more civilians in GTA V then in any other GTA game + each civilian will wear different clothes, almost every. You won't see anymore three Infernuses, Intruders, etc at the same time.
twistedweather
it will feel more alive, especially with the diversity in environment which will bring new and different "types" of people like people going about their work day, catching the bus ... like u mentioned sleepings dogs was cool, there was some interesting touches to draw you into the environment. I do believe GTAV will expand upon this, the question is how much? Its easy getting carried away hype-wise. I dont want to get too carried away and be let down. Do you mean that when I for example drive a Feltzer they won't appear all the time, like they did in IV and other GTA games? If you mean that, that's amazing, but I read somewhere they aren't able to fix that because of the low RAM on consoles.

Well, I think they meant not like before, if you drive a Feltzer there will spawn Feltzers but not to exaggerated like before. Hope the fixed that Taxi problem, to many taxis in IV. Edit: I think they meant because there will be more vehicles in V than in any other GTA game, so there will spawn more kind of different vehicles so it doesn't like that you see all the time the same Feltzer for example. EvilFuture
In some instances, the AI is pretty smart, but in some, I had many facepalm moments. Especially when peds are running away and they run into a wall and just keep running even though they are getting nowhere. But today I was having a shootout in the hospital and while there were no police around, I hid behind the computer desk thing that you see when you walk in and waited. I had 6 stars, and those FIB, business man looking type people ran in there and looked around and couldn't see me. They walked around and then went back to where the sick people were kept and they didn't find me so they started to walk out the door and BAM Headshot! THEN they noticed me and one of the cops jumped across the counter and shot my face off with a shotgun. It was a good moment... I think GTA will always have dumb AI moments, but I'm sure V will be greatly improved from IV.

And when riding a Taxi I hope the taxi driver actually speaks to you a little bit, like Ahmed did with Niko when driving him for Roman. Their dialogue was hilarious, and with the taxi driver speaking it would be nicer to get that one achievement where you have to sit through a taxi ride from one island to another. ill-thoughts
i never really felt like the NPC's made the city feel dead in GTA4....it was more their inability to "pop-up" when i was in the area that made it feel dead. when the NPC's did appear, they made the game feel pretty reallistic. some guys would lean on a wall and smoke a cig....some would get money from their atm....people would hold phone convo's.....it wasnt anything GROUNDBREAKING like Watch Dogs but it got the job done. I would love to see gardeners, people cutting their grass and fishing by the ocean, it is what makes the game more alive, and more realistic. The dogs jumping on fences when walking by also sounds amazing.
ALeSsAnDrO
Although OP mentions AI, I think what he's referring to is the amount of stuff NPCs will do. In that regard, GTA is about on par with other games like Sleeping Dogs and Assassin's Creed. To really set the bar high, R* needs to add some more details, like people walking in groups, gathering at bus stops, with actual buses stopping to pick them. Groups of women browsing stores, chatting while walking, etc. Cities aren't made of people just wandering alone all the time, they need to add forms of realistic colective behavior. burner12
I believe the city will feel much more alive. Because there will be so many NPCs walking around and an increase in traffic. Also the map is so big there will be different areas where some parts might have a low amount of people and traffic, but others a high amount. I've rarely come across a game where the AI kills other characters. They only shoot at them, but you have to do the actual killing. Hopefully R* has changed that with V. I think we will see rocketstar try to attempt at showing the civilians as having a life and doing their own thing, but in reality it will most likely be more of the same. Having all kinds of simulation and such requires a lot of processing and memory. Something that current Gen isbkimd of lacking. We wont be able to follow one work and go home most likely. We will see certain types in certain areas doing things to have it be an illusion of the city being alive
PHOENIXZERO
We're still going to see the same vehicle we're driving spawn a lot more frequently than when we're not in them, it has nothing to do with the number of vehicles available, the taxi issue MAY (if just for the sake of it being a difference in the number of NY taxis vs LA taxis) be reduced but there's no getting around having a bunch of the same cars spawning as the one you're driving. I think mods are a way of differentiating your car from the others but just like when you're looking ahead, then look back and look ahead again only to see a bunch of vehicles spawned in front of you there's simply not much in terms of a work around for it given the memory limitations of the PS3 and XB360. Next generation could be the one that finally (mostly) does away with the problem. Memory limitations are also why the AI is lacking in certain instances but there's certainly a lot of current generation room for it to be improved in GTA V. I'm just hoping that there's driver AI this time around and non-nonsensical lane changes and other issues are greatly reduced. Leafy Hollow
Yes, any and all motions, expressions, and range of AI will be far more advanced this time around.
sublimelabs
I'm confident Rockstar has evolved the Max Payne 3 AI even further (MP3 has the best AI out of any other game I've played this generation) for an open-world environment. Pedestrians and enemies will all be mocapped and move fluidly, aware of their surrounding. One can hope, anyway. It was a demo but the description of the scene with Michael in the recent press preview sounds pretty lively.
