Facebook is evolving...

Has anybody else noticed this? Facebook is slowly but surely evolving into Twitter. As we all know, Facebook started using hashtags last week, and to me, hashtags don't belong on Facebook. Now, I went to Rockstar Games Page and look what I seen.

They even have the little checkmark now. I'm also pretty sure that Twitter was the first to have the little banner type thing at the top of your profile. Seriously, Mark f*ckerturd?

WHERE'S YOUR ORIGINALITY?

All I ever asked for was a dislike button..

No, but I noticed that it's starting to be a bit like Twitter, atleast Facebook doesn't have trends YET.

I actually like the official checkmark thingy, but I hate hashtags they embrace girls and other people to do stupid f*cking updates like #YOLO #IMABELIEBER #SWAG #TREND #IAMSECRETLYALESBIAN.

Likewise. I'd abuse the sh*t outta that dislike button for all the constant c*nting pointless and/or my baby/toddler updates from work colleagues and all that sh*t.

Often innovation that leads to trends eventually become adopted by a wider industry - especially in UI. As you grow older, you'll learn this.

I know you probably didn't play games like Doom, Driver or the original Tomb Raider games in the 90s. But that's just your age.

It's really interesting seeing young people rage on forums over things like this. Like the people who accused the latest Tomb Raider game of copying Uncharted lol.gif

If you go down this path, it's never ending. Think of the first website that started dropdown boxes, sidebars, blog rolls, comments... they're things that a wider industry adopt if they become popular. It works well when people get to use and understand things they've become accustomed to.

Yep, this pretty much nails it, just accept it and move on, it's a gradual thing and seems annoying or stupid at first, but you get used to it and can perhaps even come to see its functions.

Yeah I pretty much repeated what you said haha.

Wanna go back to the first post and quote this...

Seriously, Mark f*ckerturd?

WHERE'S YOUR ORIGINALITY?

Uhm, hello... wasn't Facebook just a copy of Friendster, but geared towards universities? The world is made up of people copying other people, who would add or improve something to it (not always, but sometimes). If we don't copy, we'll get nowhere.

Think of your favorite little game on the forum you're on.

Anyone remember when Google+ came out, and the VERY FIRST THING Facebook did was copy Google's idea of 'circles of friends'?

Hashtags seem weird to use on a site where your friends are your only audience. How are they using them?

All I ever asked for was a dislike button..

If Facebook had a dislike button tens-of-thousands would leave the site in the first year. Facebook is a safe space for people who have the idea that people care about their uninteresting lives. A bit like forums sometimes.

Mr.Mordecai

I only use #'s for satire/comedic purposes to piss of people.

For Example: Just woke up. #Swag

Just made some pancakes. #Yolo

or more recently

#shawtay #ufinedoe on a girls wall. sigh.gif

It's #funny. If you actually care so much, leave FB.

Oddly enough, adding a 'Dislike' button would be pandering to people who think they're interesting and that people should care about their opinions. The idea of having just a 'Like' button is built on the principle of "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". If you really want a dislike button I can't but think you're up yourself a bit and think that you need to show off how much you don't like something; you validate yourself by exhibiting how much better you are than others rather than just liking yourself.

If you need to put people down to feel alright about yourself, I have bad news for you. You're the one with an uninteresting, unfulfilled life.

I was thinking it'd be anonymous, like Reddit or Youtube comments. I haven't used Facebook in so long that I forgot that it shared everything you liked.

I think it'd be a good thing to do away with voting altogether. If you think something's praise-worthy or deserving of hate you should actually say something. It might even do away with lots of low-effort stuff getting so popular on sites like Facebook (or maybe the phrase "I agree" would get really popular.)

Same is happening To You... I mean WeTube or GoogleTubes,NotYou (whatever name is better, they both mean the same anyway). They also have these verified account marks. Still no hash tags but they copied FB's sh*tty useless timeline.

I seem to think they are operated by Google even though they have different owners. Without that, how can FB become famous throughout the social media. But I agree, FB seems to lose its own uniqueness.

But hell I love their newly arranged timeline. Much better than last year, so much confusion. sigh.gif

I will have to agree on that one. The new timeline is much better, it's organized and feels a lot better than the other one. I don't have to use the Chrome extension "Timeline Remove" anymore because I actually like the new profiles.

BUT if you DO hate the timelines, go to the Chrome Web Store and type in "timelineremove" all one word. It should be the first one. I tried linking it here but it said 404 error.

I never knew about that 'Timeline Remove' app, I may try it, even though I do not use Google Chrome

My favorite aspect of Facebook is how it allows you to look back at everything you've posted. I love the timeline and activity log, and they are the main things that keep me on Facebook. Twitter and Google+ (the only other social networks I use) don't really have such options, so you have to scroll through your posts to find anything. They don't really intend for you to look back on what you've posted. By contrast, I feel a lot more in control of what I post, whenever I posted it, on Facebook.

Facebook has much better usage of screen real estate than Twitter or Google+. Facebook's mobile apps are appallingly bad, but I couldn't care less about mobile apps.

I also find that I see more intelligent conversation on Facebook from my friends, as compared to short unintelligible blurbs on Twitter. However, I do have plenty of privacy concerns with Facebook, and in many ways it is a more annoying service than Twitter or Google+. I will definitely stick around as long it has after-the-fact post management and timelines and other services don't.

Adding things like hashtags is fine with me, I just hope they don't "casualize" Facebook by stripping down its features to make it appeal to kids and other casual users. (Kinda dumb to say that about a social network to start with, but I do feel like Twitter and Google+ are too simple for my needs.)

I know some people like and use the hashtag feature on Facebook and Twitter but I hate it. I see no point in it whatsoever sad.gif

It does have a purpose and you could find out what it is easily, but you would rather be an ignorant person.

Hash tags are older than all of those social networking sites and I'm pretty sure you would have to patent those features to be able to sue someone for copying them. I very much doubt they could patent the verifying thing.

Except that they are not your only audience. Not always. You can use hash tags on Facebook pages or on your regular profile if you make your posts public. Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense to use them.

I know its purpose, you click on it and see every post with that hashtag in. Am I right? Well, if I am, I dont really find it of any use

I think on Twitter the purpose is supposed to be so you can find people with similar interests, and then follow them. Hasn't Facebook introduced their version of following a person now, where you subscribe to their feed? Maybe you can view the hashtagged words and subscribe to their feed. Not looked in to it all that much if I'm honest.

I used to hate people hashtagging on Facebook as it served no purpose, but now it does serve a purpose, i can't say sh*t.
