Do you think the handling will be dumbed down?

It was already confirmed that the driving will be less boat like and more "forgiving"

I liked IV's handling, I wish they didn't change it

I agree, it took a bit to learn, but once you learned it, driving became a breeze, also I think people forgot to use their brakes while driving.

I dont think it will be dumbed down....Rockstar already hinted at this in one of the previews...... GameInformer?

they tweaked it a bit

imo vehicle customization will solve all handling problems

tweaking your brakes, hydraulics, tires, etc

plus you can pimp your ride visually as a bonus

it takes time to master driving in GTAiv, but once you got it down its awesome (at least it did for me)

different cars with unique handling makes the driving experience more complex thus more rewarding imo

I choose to believe that V's driving will be an improvement on IV's. And IV's driving was a huge, HUGE improvement from all previous GTAs. I have no idea how anyone could play IV and then want to go back to the ridiculously janky, jerky driving in the PS2 era. Pure madness.

Yeah it will feel less like a boat like, sure i got used to the handling, doesnt mean it was right.

This. I don't understand people denying that a lot of the cars had very "loose" handling in GTA IV (let alone defending it). This talk of "dumbing it down for casuals" is silly, as it is when people use that argument for other changes.

You call it "loose". I call it "way more natural and comfortable than the driving in previous GTAs". It's all relative.

Didn't one preview specifically say that it wasn't dumbed down? It said something like

"Grand Theft Auto V's car handling is more forgiving than IV's, but it is in no way dumbed down."

I think it will be just a tweaked version of IV's, and that's fine with me, because I DON'T want MC:LA type handling. It works in that game but it wouldn't be right in GTA.

I think by modifying the handling, they are probably changing the handling so that cars don't roll so much in turns, it just doesn't look right when taking a slight turn damn near puts the car sideways(slight exaggeration).

Or they could mess with the tire grip, or tune the handling to be more speed proportional.

yeah.... I honestly don't get why there was so much hate for IV's driving. in IV's multiplayer, I would literally just taxi people around from one area to another because I loved the driving so much. I didn't even know there was a problem with it until I found these forums about a year ago. me personally, I never had a problem with it.... hell I thought it was a great driving system. its a grand theft auto game, the driving has never been realistic, and that was never a problem before.

ive been re-playing san andreas the last few weeks getting ready for GTAV. now THAT driving system was crap. the cars felt like.... hell I don't even know how to describe it. you can take almost any corner by never letting off the gas and using the emergency brake. the cars turning is so touchy that the slightest move of the joystick jolts your car.

im not going to instantly say that GTAV's driving system will suck, ill reserve that judgment for when I play it. again I just don't get why theres so much hate on IV's driving sleepy.gif

Ok, but what about racing games? Like driver san francisco? "Better than previous GTAS" doesn't mean "Perfect and should never change ever".

They're not going to return to SA handling. All that's going to happen is that driving on a dry road won't feel like driving on a wet road.

Yes, I did get used to IV's handling. No, that doesn't make it a perfect thing that should never be changed.

If It's more "forgiving" I hope it's not like 99% of the physics in other open world games where they might aswell let the cars drive themselves.

GTA IV's physics are raw, brutal and edgy which is why I love them. It hands your ass to you when you screw up and that's the way I think it should be and the term "boatlike" has always puzzled me.

The only vehicles that handle like boats are crappy econoboxes, sedans, SUVs, trucks, vans etc. Basically everything that's not built to handle. None of the sports/supercars handle like boats.

IV has had the best driving physics in an open world hands down. The Futo in IV was on of my favorites to drive, very quick and real tight handling.

Have any of you ever tried taking a corner going 60 mph in some grandma's daily commuter?

I used to have an '88 Volvo, you've best bet your ass that thing handled like a boat trying to take a corner any faster than the signs posted. I'm pretty sure most people who complain about IV's driving have never actually driven themselves and think every car handles like a fckin Suburu. The driving system could definitely use some tweaks but seriously R*, leave it how it is, it's golden.

I hope that they just tweak them. Some of the vehicles in GTA IV felt like they were going to roll when taking a corner. The police cars were like this and too slow to get up to speed.

The driving was good, but goddamn you can't drift for sh*t. I'm glad they are changing it.

What? I was the drift master in iv. Especially if "getaway driver" or "stylin'" came on. Nobody could catch up in mp racing.

I really, really hated the handling of the bikes. It brakes so weird and is so slippery when you make a turn.

I think the handling in IV is one of the best of any game out there. It's very realistic and for that reason, driving is very intuitive.

It's not without a couple of faults though. The body roll on some of the sportier cars is a little much and the rear suspension has a tendency to pop up sharply off some bumps.

Accusations of "driving on ice" are completely wide of the mark though (use your brakes and slow down you fools). There's plenty of speed and grip to be had if you drive correctly.

If reports of the demos are true, the driving has been tweaked for the better, but is otherwise much the same as GTA:IV's.

One more thing. Please don't use the phrase "boat like". That's Dan Houser's turn of phrase and most of you are repeating it like parrots. I'm sure half of you have no idea what it means. You're not dumb, use your own words.

Driving in IV was realistic. People didn't like it because it wasn't arcadey like in the 3D Era or Saints Row 3 - where turning is as easy as turning in Snake.

But Rockstar said the driving in IV was boat-like, and it was. When making sharp turns, you very rarely flipped over or anything. Your car kind of just leaned to one side of the suspension more, much like a boat in water. There's actually a mod for IV that fixes the handling, and you can feel a great difference. No more boat-like vehicles.

They said driving is going to be more like the driving in racing games. Now that doesn't necessarily mean every car can make an easy sharp turn, or handle like a sports car. It just means they'll feel more polished. And in the mod I mentioned, every car doesn't feel like a sports car. It just improves the handling and gives it a more polished feel.

others were just silly.

Cars were OK but a lot of them felt the same and some where just too slow.

If they fix the suspension and brakes then I'm happy. I don't want my car rolling about the place and skidding into sh*t. Don't say I didn't learn to drive properly cause I've been playing the damn thing for 5 years and I still hate it.

I liked the driving in GTA IV.

I wouldnt mind if it returned in V, but it probably wont affect how much I enjoy the game if they do change it.

I don't think they would screw it up.
