Dr Bannington
I built a pretty powerful pc through HP a few years ago to use as a recording studio pc but now that I dont make music anymore I use it as a gaming pc. I have never once connected it to the internet and I've always kept it clean, neat and organized so it still runs like its brand new after over 3 years. Most new games require either an internet connection to play or to register so I'm pretty limited on what games I can get since I never installed the proper hardware to connect to the internet. The thing is - I dont know what I need! Im not too hardware savvy so go easy on me with the terminology. Do I need a modem or something? I really dont know. I just want to play total war shogun 2. I've had it since it was released and its just been sitting on the shelf. Help please! Edit: I'll post all the specs when I get home in a couple hours. Spuds725
If you don't have an ethernet connector-- you will need to buy one... http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Gigabit-Ada...i+ethernet+card Alternately a wireless card-- http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN851ND-W...ds=wireless+PCI to connect to your wifi--- the one you should get and the speeds capable are dependent upon your router.... The above is a decent wireless (dual band) Either should come with a driver disk-- if not-- you may need to download the required drivers on another PC and put it on flash drive to install on the PC.... Obviously you need some antivirus software right away and then immediately connect to microsoft update and get the PC patched... Installing either is pretty similar and straight forward. Dr Bannington
Thanks for the reply! I have a wireless router in my apartment for ps3, laptop, etc. and I have the ability to connect an internet cable to the pc but nother happens when I do. Are you sure the hardware you posted is what I might need? Again, I'll post my specs in a little while.
Spuds725
If you have an ethernet connector-- it should detect it (the internet) immediately when you plug it in to the router. Is it possible that the cable or ends are bad (damaged)?? You may need to enable the adapter in settings--- what OS are you running? Should be similar to this if it is disabled...
