seventhreeo
Apologies if this is somehow in the wrong section. I know it's too early to talk about, but I reckon Rockstar'll outline their next few games in an order we're familiar with. From GTA 3 to VCS, there were 5 games (6 if you include GTAA) and, in the story, it tells 5 stories over the span of 17 years. Rockstar made it interesting by laying it out like this. I reckon they'll keep 5 games in what will be the GTA 5 era. They'll have GTA 5, based in LS in modern times. They will then hopefully have the other 4 games in San Fierro, Las Venturas, Vice City, and (probably the 5th) Liberty City. They could be set in different time periods, especially since Rockstar stated Miami was only interesting in the 80s. I'm just hoping they do this, since I like how the GTA 3 era was put together, even if there were a few mistakes (Vic Vance being almost a different person in his 2 appearances for example). Keep in mind this is only a theory. What do you all think?

seventhreeo
oh I know it's in the same universe as GTA 4 but I'm saying 5 will have 5 games in its series, my bad I may've stated it wrong what I'm getting at is that it'll be like the GTA 3 series - 5 stories that all link to eachother in some way, and while GTA 4's events still occurred, they might not be as important I guess it's more of an "I hope" than an "I reckon", it'll be cool if they set it out like this though

DODI3OG
The GTA V and GTA IV era are different, though there will be TINY crossovers here and there. They're both part of the HD UNIVERSE, however.
TakinThyBacon
I do not see them ever doing Liberty City again, they have done it twice and I cannot imagine what else they could add to make it a new experience. Nopheros
Can you imagine if this entire era followed the diamonds from IV and DLCs. That bum who find them got rich and moved to Vice City, maybe he sold them to a jewelry store in Los Santos? Would be funny if we got to take them in a heist. VICE Will most likely come back, due to not seeing it much and can be expanded into other cities like Orlando - Fort Lauderdale - Miami combined like SA Did with San Francisco - Las Vegas - Los Angeles. They can actually make it MUCH bigger, maybe even the exact same size as the real New York. A complete clone of NYC and the surrounding suburbs etc. OR, they can make a GTA with LC, VC and SA together on one map. OR, they can maybe make a brand new Liberty City, that doesn't actually resemble New York City... They won't abandon Liberty City...

If LC had to return, I'd rather have it as part of an Enitre territory representing the State of New York and surroundings like the Hamptons, Long Island, D.C. and Philly. But I just don't see how what more could they add to LC in it's HD Universe incarnation... Keep the same landmarks but make the city larger and more sprawling? I don't think that would be a good idea, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing this applied to Alderney though.
cp1dell
Honestly, I think Rockstar is done revamping their cities. Can't find the quote, but it was either Dan or Sam Houser that said IV's Liberty City is the Liberty City they always imagined. They have always been trying to recreate the world outside. GTA III started out as a mix between multiple cities. SA is where they started basing the map on real-life locations a bit more. IV is where they went all out and created a full parody, with lots of parallels between the game's map and it's real-life counterpart, along with landmarks. I assume Rockstar is going to recreate their cities in the way they always wanted the to be. Then they will move on to new cities, or create that GTA game with all the cities in it like they talked about.

Just because it's gonna be next gen. But who knows, they might continue or expand the V story with other games, like the III series. @Deacon Bosco - Yeah, that's why I said they can maybe invent their own Liberty City that doesn't actually represent New York City. That's the down-side of a map that is based on a real life city. There's not much room left for any improvements etc. So imo, they can make a new LC that isn't based on NYC, but has a similar atmosphere, architecture etc, with a totally different and unique layout. A LC that isn't a NYC clone...

Andreas
There is no "IV-era" or "V-era", or however you want to call it. There are three eras, namely 2D, 3D and HD; and both, GTAIV and GTAV, belong to the HD-era. There are five GTA games that belong to the 3D-era, but that doesn't mean that the exact same amount of titles are going to be part of the HD-era, there is no pattern whatsoever. If there would be, then why were there only two games (or four if you take the original GTA's add-ons London 1969 and London 1961 into account) in the 2D-era? Not to mention the fact that Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories are spin-offs of III and Vice City, respectively. The HD-era will be continued with the next-generations consoles. After all, HD is HD so what's there to “upgrade” further? My guess would be that GTAVI will be based on Vice City again, but I think that's the last time Rockstar recreates a city they have already done at least once in the past. Though, I wouldn't have anything against a game that has San Fierro or Las Venturas as city again, just that it would be more similar to its real life counterpart this time. I feel that one city per game is good enough, alone because the details benefit from it.
