Do you think having a day off work/School is sad?

The only thing sad is people who consider you a loser for skipping work/school. I feel sorry for those close-minded people who wouldn't miss work for a video game, but would miss work to attend an NHL game of their favorite team live. Some people are just stuck on their high horse, and thus look down on everyone else's hobbies/passions as if they're pathetic.

Amen!

It's annoying in this day and age gaming is still seen as a social taboo. I love how people can tell you to get a life because you play a lot of games yet they spend most of their free times standing in a club week after week taking pictures of them doing nothing so they can put them on Facebook.

Like it or not, gaming is a very prominent hobby in today's society (only getting bigger) and it is no longer socially unacceptable to be a hardcore gamer. I see gaming as art - they are amazing experiences that provide countless amounts of fun and really provide insight into the minds of others (the developers). I'm very happy to be a hardcore gamer.  smile.gif

That's because most people - even full grown adults, sadly - are extremely closed-minded, and incapable of understanding a point of view different from their own. I've got a buddy who thinks video games are a huge waste of time, and the dude watches practically every drama series on TV. What's the difference??

It's the same people who say people who smoke weed are losers, and then turn around and drink 24 beers over the weekend.

As a truck driver, I don't have the blessing of being home everyday, so I'll definitely be using a vacation day. No way in hell am I waiting 'til the following weekend to play. I earned my vacation time, I'm going to use it. Getting paid to sit at home and play GTA V? Can't go wrong there.

Haha exactly biggrin.gif Anything can be dumbed-down to the point of making it look stupid. Like you said, gaming and clubbing. Maybe I'm spending my life looking at a screen, while other people are spending their lives moving around sweaty people and contracting AIDS occasionally colgate.gif

@CalgaryJay: Yep, the world seems to be filled with hypocrisy in that aspect.

I don't know. Seems a bit too much for me. I mean, taking days off for something that is a rare occasion or even once in a lifetime event like your favorite band coming to town or something seems more logical.

But doing that for a game that will be there waiting to be played whenever you want to is a bit different. I wouldn't scold people who do it, it's their choice, but I'd never do it as I have enough patience to play when I have no obligations like work.

Yeah I do not think I could take days off to play a video game, it just does not make sense to me. Work should always be a priority above video games. I use GTA as a reward for myself, I go and work a 10 hour day then my reward is getting to play the game. Also seeing how GTA's have been coming out ever 5 years I see no need to rush myself through the game, I generally limit myself to one mission per night to extend the experience.

Well, if I was in school probably I would wait to the afternoon to play instead of skipping the class. In my high school, at least, there's a limited amount of class you can skip, if you exceed it you fail the subject. Therefore, is better to try to not skip too many classes at the beginning to the year to have more "free" classes at the half or final of it.

Anyway, thinking it better, being it GTA V I would skip some classes biggrin.gif

I'm taking the week off in which GTA V releases. Maybe 2.

I want to enjoy and don't want to be bored at school and internship. I wouldn't be able to pay attention anyways. GTA V would be in my mind at all times haha!

People saying it is sooo wrong to skip a few days are really.. Stupid imo.. As if missing a couple of days will ruin your whole life. Get your sh*t together if you think like that. Ever heard of working ahead of yourself? Finish extra work and then you can actually take 2 weeks off.

if you have a week or two off, you'll get it finished real quick.

Nah man, I'm taking it easy. I'll mostly free-roam and do random stuff.

Even when I finish the story there will be lots of things to do in the game. smile.gif

Nope... I don't really have the desire to either. I will have just started college. I will spend the day being happy knowing that I have the V at my dispense as soon as I get home. And with my buddies well spend the day and bus journey home, reviewing the information we have, speculating, sharing stories of what we will do first. Then get home caress the cover and gently gently remove the film. Big sniff. Insert. I think having a limit on how much you can play is good because you don't discover everything in a day and it just continues to surprise to no end.

People work for their holidays so you can take them whenever you want, so I saved some days and booked that week off. If I didn't have any left, I wouldn't pull a sicky just for a game, as that is essentially cheating my employer. I guess if you're in school it's a different matter, good luck convincing your parents though tounge.gif

I hardly ever take any time off from work, I have about a solid month's worth of vacation time coming to me. I'll be taking a four day weekend on Sept. 20-23 so I can have plenty of quality time with GTA V. (And telling my wife not to expect me to lift my ass from the couch except when (if) I go to bed.)

Sad..?

Are you serious?

Some people need to learn how to enjoy life doing what they like the most.

I'm definitely taking one or two days off for the best game yet to come out, which happens every 4-5 years. icon14.gif

Why not play the game after work? Seems pointless missing a days pay just to play a video game. It's either a blessing or a curse that I'm not in that situation so don't have to make that choice. monocle.gif

I'm taking a week of paid vacation. So I'm getting pays to play gta v smile.gif

As much as I am excited about GTA V, I will not be skipping any days of school. Education comes first. Since I want to have my first time playing GTA V as memorable as possible, I'll wait until the first weekend after September 17th to play.

No day off for me (unless my boss chooses). I have Sunday off and then any day of the week depending on what days he chooses for me/other people so I may get lucky. It'll be at home waiting for me but i'll be thinking about it all day until 5:45 when I can finally play it cool.gif

If you wanna take days off that's cool, I don't see it as 'sad' just something you want to do so do it. Personally I'd rather earn money but yeh smile.gif

GTA fan from the United Kingdom

Day off work: Yes, because you are getting paid to go to work, not sit at home and play GTA.

Day off school: No, because school is a waste of time and 90% of what you learn in school you're never going to use when you leave, unless you want to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist, teacher or accountant.

I guess when you say 'I don't see it as 'sad' just something you want to do so do it. Personally I'd rather earn money but yeh smile.gif', you mean people that get paid by the hour, then yeah I see your point

But for people that have a salary & have a set amount of paid holiday to take each year (20 days etc), then I don't see why not taking a few days off as holiday is a problem, as you are still getting paid when you are 'on holiday'

I will be taking Monday - Friday off as 'holiday'

If I was at school and GTAV came out, I would wait until the weekend... education is more important that a video game, unless you want to be a bog cleaner..

Oh yeah, cause the kid taking ONE day off school means he's gunna be a bog cleaner? suicidal.gif

Tuesday isn't a college day for me but If I was at school, I'd take it off. I'd take days off with mates just because school was boring, at least I'd have a reason that day...lol

What i'm saying is personally i'd rather carry on my day as normal in work and use my 25 days holiday for actual holidays or days away with friends. But like I said, if people want to do it then there's no problem with that nor is it 'sad' smile.gif

Uh... no.

Seriously, sometimes you need to relax your brain, your mind. It's really not that bad, not in my experience at least.
