Which game captured the Liberty City vibe better? Which variant did you prefer exploring? I'm going LCS, simply because it was a little less depressing. GTA III looked to be in ruins.

I prefer how the city was laid out in LCS, without that ugly construction site in Portland, an actual Fort Staunton district, etc. Despite this, I loved the atmosphere III created.

I like both Liberty Citys. In GTA III City is near finished expect Fort Stauton. Dark atmosfere is pretty good, but I don't like near all gangs shoot to me.

In LCS City is alive. Is bright, there are bikes to use them. I like Toni in Leone Suit and Driving Leone Sentinel.

For some reason, I like Liberty City's obscure atmosphere in GTA3.

Also, in GTA3 it's somewhat easier to get around Liberty City. The Porter Tunnel is fully functional and the Dodo plane is available at the airport(although learning to fly it takes some practice).

In LCS, the Porter Tunnel is incomplete and no aircraft are available(a helicopter can be obtained in the mission "False Idols", but this is very tricky to do).

Yes, I agree. GTA III looks, as I previously stated, like a city undergoing apocalypse.

I always entertained the thought that the "Armaggedon" esque feeling from III was a direct result of Toni's actions 3 years prior.

To awnser the poll: 1998 LC, no question about it, the way how the crime syndicates are intertwined together works to perfection, the city is gritty but doesn't look in shambles like in GTA III and the soundtrack is better. What's not to like?

I love Liberty Jam on LCS. Big Pun is very fitting for such a dark game. However, I would kill anyone to get that song "She's on Fire!" in LCS!

Yeah that was a good one, though I've always liked "Rush Rush" more.

However I rake my brains trying to find a single song (whose name I can actually spell) in LCS that I dislike. Even Lips 106 and Head Radio grew on me, while I remember absolutly loathing them in III, Rise FM and MSX 98 were perfect for police chases through the 3 islands, and Radio Del Mundo made the game feel like something out of a Bollywood movie (Surprisingly not a bad thing turn.gif ).

Radio Del Mundo fit the mood when you stole a Taxi Cab.

I like 1998 LC, it seems like R* took the extra time to get the atmosphere perfect. Lots of bonus features around town that help explain why 2001 LC is so much different from the 1998 one.

The original GTA III's Liberty City. Dark, gritty and gloomy, with something heavy laying on your shoulders wherever you tread...

In LCS the city got lightened up a bit... Felt more... safe...

Agreed. Always liked the way LC felt more in GTA III than LCS. It's as you say more gritty and dark. The way LC should be IMO.

I too agree, Liberty City can only be Liberty City with the dark gloomy setting!

This is exactly the thing everyone should realize. Liberty City is marketed as 'The Worst Place in America' and I believe that Grand Theft Auto III is the only game to date that properly fulfills that title. Maybe some do prefer the Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories rendition but is it really 'The Worst Place in America' then?

"The Worst Place in America" was best illustrated in Grand Theft Auto III. I like the dark and gritty City.

GTA III's LC definately, perhaps because I played much more of III than LCS. Even though I was .. like 5 years old when I first played GTA III back in 2001, the atmosphere of the city was so good and spot on, it marked me.

LCS is my favorite but it too had it's dangerous areas. Not everyone turned on you but the Forelli's still would spawn like mad.

I think LCS is better than III,beacuse LCS had strongest weapons(e.g. Minigun,M60,M4,Nightstick,Psg-1,MP5,Python)

Obviously, each kind of city is good in its own way and is suitable for a specific reflection of that time and plot. But GTA III is still closer to me.
