Outcast
Never driven a Caterham 7 before but I've often seen them out on country roads during the summer in the UK. How's it drive? We've got a typhoon heading our way and I've got to find someplace safe to shelter my Porsche and Hummer. Bentley is in the shop so that should be fine. Garfield 2
I took the Volvo for a spin down the mountain roads. While it wasn't MX-5 or RWD fun, it was still fun. Combined with this track: It was simply an astonishing road. I honestly can't wait until I'm financially stable enough to be able to own and maintain an M5 or a similar car... Drives like nothing ive ever driven, really really fun car to drive. The steering, gearbox and throttle were precise. Was with the missus and the roads were a bit sketchy but I managed to get it up and over 110mph on short straight on the Isle of Skye early in the morning when she was asleep at the hotel. Other than that it was fun just cruising on 60 through the highlands (was like driving through a bloody postcard the whole time). If you ever find yourself up in Scotland you have to give it a try, go for the CSR200 though as they have a bit more go. The fella from Open Road hire really is a good bloke also. Im thinking of moving over to the UK after I spend a few more months in the mines back in aus and im seriously considering buying one over here instead of shipping the Rx7 over. Zyo
... Yeah I am really annoyed, I have just missed out on a weekend of flying light aircraft around the Moray Firth because of a family situation. Scotland is awesome. I really need to spend some more time there soon. What would be a good "noob"-cigar ? You know, cheap but good and stuff. The place I'll be buying from sells cubans if that's any help

sivispacem
I've got a Gold card, but I don't use it anywhere near as much as I should to take advantage of the benefits. To clarify, I racked up about 45,000 points in the first year I used it including lots of first-year bonuses, which just about paid for flights to Nice for me and my partner on BA, and about £50 worth of gift cards. This year I've managed to accumulate about 8,000, plus whatever the roll-on is (10,000? 15,000? Can't remember offhand). Zyo
Yeah I carry a Amex Gold too. Its a decent card, not quite as widely accepted as Visa, but not that much that it really makes a difference. The purchase insurance that comes with it is pretty good, and its a "safe" card to carry. If there are ever any queries about odd charges to them, they are very good about dealing with it. The emergency card issue is good too, if you lose one they will send you a replacement quickly anywhere you want. I went down the platinum, vs gold vs regular route and the gold offers 99% of the benefits of the platinum without the higher fees, and a hell of a lot of advantages over the standard card. It seems to me to be the best one to go for. @jaysteels Don't know exactly what your smoking experience or your budget is, but a good noob cigar might be a Montecristo #4. They are great cubans, not too excessive pricewise, and pretty accessible for a new smoker. Besides that, sticking with cuban brands, Partagas, Romeo and Julieta, H Upmann are quality cigars. Also consider Cohibas, Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey and Bolivar. Its hard to recommend a good cigar to someone as everyones taste is different, but i would suggest something around a Mareva/petit corona format like the Monte #4. I hear it was Che Guevaras favorite cigar too, so it cant be bad. Also its the one that I started when I picked up cigar smoking. If you want something that is more cigar maybe a Montecristo #1 might be worth considering. MindCorrupt
The hire car in Germany I picked up when visiting some old roommates. Had to grab a car that I could sleep in the back of for the first couple of nights before I got to their town. Turned out to be a pretty decent car, would make a pretty good daily driver I reckon if the price was right. Was good fun on the Autobahn, never thought one day i'd be able to cruise at 200kmh plus on a public freeway; was amazed how well the system works there. Did have a delivery van change lanes on me at 200+ which was an experience though. Obligatory speedo shot.

Outcast
@MindCorrupt Cruising at 200kph+ in any other country feels like you're going at hyper speed but when I'm in Germany and I'm on the unrestricted parts of the autobahn it feels pretty standard as everyone else is at similarly high speeds. @Sup3rman Happy bday man! sivispacem
I posted this here rather than in the topic in GC because I doubt the plebs would appreciate it.I received the best Christmas present in a few years today- a pair of Audio Technica ATH-WS55i headphones, this year. Now, they're not big; they're not clever, and they're not expensive, but they're the most awesome present ever, and I'll explain why for the benefit of the audiophiles in the topic. Put simply, I haven't owned a decent pair of what I would class "everyday" headphones in about 18 months, As of about 11:00 this morning, I owned six pairs of headphones. One of those is a gaming headset, and another are ancient and sh*t, so we can discount those for daily use. That leaves four pairs of headphones. One of these, a set of Sennheiser HD558s, have been on long-term "loan" to my mate who is living in Toronto, so I can't use them for daily listening. That makes three pairs. I've got a pair of Sennheiser CX300 II earbuds that I've had for a good couple of years wrapped around my iPod case. These are great for what is, in essence, a £20 pair of in-ears, but they're hardly fitting of an audiophile. Additionally, during a particularly stressful day a few weeks ago, I partially chewed through the cable join and managed to expose some of the wiring, which has wrecked the output to the right earphone. That makes two usable sets of earphones. I own a set of Grado SR-80i over-ear cans, which are truly outstanding in every conceivable way but one. They're open-backed, which is a major contributor to how fantastic they are, but is also their biggest weakness. I can't wear them anywhere. As in, if I wear them on the train, they leak so much people think I'm playing music on an early 00s Nokia, So those are reserved for sitting in front of my PC listening to music. Even my missus won't sit near me because they annoy her. That makes one. The final pair of earphones I own are a set of Shure SE535s. These are absolutely fantastic in terms of output and quality, but like the Grados have one big weakness. That is, I'm not comfortable with a set of earbuds weighting as much as a gnat's testicle that cost £350. I worry about wrapping them around my iPod. I worry about wearing them on the train, or when I go running. They're not as good as the Grados for indoor listening, but at least I can use them without my colleagues complaining. That said, I don't want to leave them at work every evening like I do my iPod and I don't want to have to ball them up and take them home every day. In short, I'm so worried about damaging them or losing them or having them pinched that I can't relax enough to enjoy them. An £80 pair of over-ear iPod headphones have enabled me to unclench my anus and actually enjoy portable music for the first time in f*cking ages, and they sound absolutely fantastic to boot.
