Njale
If it's digital, doesn't that make it easier to make it available for download on PS4? No this has nothing to do with PS4, you will get better performance if the whole game is located on your hard drive rather then it having to load stuff from the disc. What if it was installed on the PS3's HDD? AFAIK, it only needs to read the necessary files for validation and not the "actual", "game/world files", instead, As war as i'm aware you can't install the whole game from the disc on PS3, the 8GB mandatory install probably contains the map and audio. There is still stuff streamed from the disc.

kamyar07
Do we know the price yet for download? Im down for digital there are improvements in gameplay you dont have to wait for the delay for the laser to read the disc and transmit its faster to read right off the hd. But can we still get the special edition and the poster map? I can look at scans of the booklet online later but i want that map or i can get it off ebay maybe

If you get the digital download version of GTA V, there is no way you are gonna get a map and booklet off eBay anytime soon, not when everyone has just got the game. You will just have to stick to looking at online scans. Or you can just buy the physical copy and overlook whatever very minor concerns you have. Audiophile
Yeah the OP has a lot of info, I kept updating it with links and so on. When other regions get V, I'll update the OP. As for pros and cons I think pretty much everything was covered and I know someone mentioned a pro is its cheaper than physical in some regions. I just want to reiterate this as I'm in Ontario, Canada and paid around $45.99 for digital. Mainly because I had PSN wallet cash already in my account and it only cost $59.99 for me without taxes. I believe the same applies to those in New York since my friend lives there and I don't believe he pays PSN tax. But I've heard that the European region is notorious for a higher price on digital games. I guess digital may also load textures and so forth faster during gameplay because the entire game is already on your HDD so there's that. I know you install an entire 8GB with the physical copy but you still play from the disc which I imagine is because it for one thing doesn't install all the game content to your HDD. The rest has been stated in other posts. It's all really a matter of preference and digital is a nice alternative to have. d3ex2
What performance improvements does full digital give on the PS3 compared to disk based? The full game will be installed on the HD so loading times may be quicker but not by much because the game doesn't need to read stuff off the disc which has a longer access time than if it were being read of a HD. The performance difference might only be a matter of a few seconds. nothing major.
s1xty7
Step 1: Buy SSD - COMPLETE (Toshiba HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SSD on Newegg for $72 if you use V.Me to pay; Overkill, I know) Step 2: Install GTAV on SSD somehow. I asked R* if they would have a full install option with the disc version. Awaiting reply. Step 3: Play GTAV!! If you can't do a full install from disc on the PS3, I might have to buy the digital version. Damn you expendable income! After such a long wait, what's another $60 anyway? You should know being a PS3 owner that you can't/don't have the option to install all content from the disc onto the HDD like you can with Xbox 360. Only certain games allow some sort of small install - take Gran Turismo 5 for instance, they had like a 5-8GB install for cars and stuff but you still needed the disc to play and would still read off of that. So yeah, GTA V won't be a complete install if you buy it on disc. The only way you'll have it on your HDD (more than 8GB) then you'll have to download the digital version. Yes, if you buy it digital Sony charges your credit card right away. And of course you can buy it at any point digitally. Be it as a pre-order before launch or a regular purchase at release. But if you have the money and you know you're going to get digital I don't see why you wouldn't get it right now. It's up to you though you can purchase it at any time now, between and after launch. But I should point out the Atomic Blimp is a pre-order bonus and so is the GTAV theme for your PS3. So if you want those two things you need to purchase it while it's still a pre-order i.e. before the game comes out midnight the 17th. I thought I had heard about some games having the option to do an install to HDD. Regardless, I've been waiting this long and it's the only game series I really play anymore (might pick up the next Red Dead though) so I'm alright paying the extra dollars to have the digital, in addition to the CE, if it means I can cut down on load times and noise. The old launch 80GB really gets loud when it gets going. Between the SSD and the digital version, the PS3 might almost sound quieter than an idling V8 on my desk. If it weren't for the CE bonus content (I don't really care about the physical extras), I'd cancel my CE pre-order and go straight digital. It would be nice to pre-download though and just unlock at 12:01 instead of running to the store for a midnight release, if the DL/unlock thing worked. The only thing is states for file size is "1.2 MB" which is the file size for the theme that comes with the pre-order. That makes sense, I thought about that too. We'll have to wait and see but I am personally not that worried as I've downloaded a lot worse in all my years of digital gaming. Hell, I'll be pre-loading Rome 2 Total War for PC around September 3rd and that game is supposed to be 35 GB's. Generally get the same download speeds on PSN as I do on Steam.
