GTA V Confirmed as Digital!

Recommended Posts

Just asked them if the DLCs coming along with SE and CE editions are compatible with PSN digital download and they confirmed.

Not sure bout the GAME where I preordered or other retailers but it's good news for those who pre-ordered at Walmart because according the product descrition on theirs site they'll send the codes via email.

You can pre order the SE/CE digital? Is the CE cheaper since you're not getting the physical stuff?

No, that's about physical copy. I don't care about the price, digital download is just a noise cancelling solution to me, I hate the screaming BR's. Also I think some people who can't get theirs CE/SE copy on release day because of long delivery could use this feature.

So 75% off any Rockstar title...

The only Rockstar games I don't already own on disk or haven't played are Manhunt and San Andreas. Which should I get? I'm slightly against getting SA, because I'll probably never touch it again once V comes out. Does Manhunt hold up?

No.

You can only pre-order the standard version digitally which gives you a theme right away and the Atomic Blimp pre-order bonus.

R* just meant that if you have a code from the SE or CE physical version you can use it on the digital version; they are compatible. Which I thought was straightforward but it's nice to have that confirmation, I suppose.

@Bronxsta

You probably won't touch Manhunt again either once V comes out. I would go for SA, personally. In fact, I am replaying it right now but on PC.

Up to you though.

Green Man Gaming has a PC GTA bundle with all the past games for $12.49 and that was $10 ($12.49 without it) with the use of a code last week, didn't jump on it as I have no reason to.

Here's the code if it still works.

Ok after you download and play the digital version...do you have to have internet always on? Or will it constantly check if it is the original version when you try to launch the game or stuff like that?

No, I believe there isn't and that you can play offline.

After the initial download you can play offline with no issues as long as your PSN account is tied to that specific PS3 i.e. you don't go your account on PSN through the PS3 or PSN site and deactivate your PS3 from the account you bought V on.

Ty! Also you download it at 12:01, in the timezone of the account or the location where you are at? I know it might sound strange but i have an UK account and i live in Germany because that was the only way to get the PSN store in English.

I was thinking that's for the North American and Latin American PSN Store.

He's in Europe so they will probably go by a different time zone for the unlock in Europe?

Makes more sense.

Really i thought that it was 12:01 in the timezone your are from because that would make sense...

Any news about other territories other than US/EU?

Not yet.

Right now PSN pre-orders are open just for North America and Latin America.

On Friday those in Europe can pre-order and when you're checking out it tells you exactly what time and timezone the download will unlock for your region of the store.

As I posted earlier I imagine the midnight PST time is for the North/South American regions of the store.

You'll find out on Friday for sure.

I will cancel my disc copy and preorder a digital one. I knew i should hould have wait for a little longer, but thats ok. I am just worried about downlaod tiems on launch since the network will be raped by thousands or even millions who download at the same time.

I have both a US and UK account and whenever they do Day One Digital they never state the time it will be up, it just lists the day of release, I'm just gonna assume that you can download it once they update the store and not at midnight.

And I misread his post, my mistake.. when he said English I thought he meant he had access to the US version of the store. I can't tell you what time they will have it up for download

Alrighty then.

I'm just worried that Asia's gonna get it later like Japan on Oct 10th.

Digital

+ Midnight Access

+ Full game installed on HD

- Possibly cost more than a physical copy.

- Long time to download/busy servers.

- No physical disc

- No booklet/map

+ No having to load discs to play the game

Physical

- Need to wait until 10/11AM

- Only 8GB of the game installed on HD

+ Possibly cost less

+ No downloading

+ Physical disc

+ Booklet/Map

- Have to load disc when you want to play.

I can't decide what version to get. Physical has more positives but these three positives of the digital version are tempting.

But i think i read somewhere either on forums or reddit about being able to download it at midnight 12:01 and not when they update the store. Or maybe they will update it for GTA 5 at 12:01, because i don't think they will for example update it at like 4 in the afternoon on the Sept 17. That would be just stupid.

Add this to the list:

Digital:

+in the case you optical drive brakes you can still play

+quieter,probably faster loading

+75% discount on any R* game

+if it gets deleted you can download it infinite times

-time to download on slow connection

-much more space on HDD required

-no trading

Physical:

-noise

-slower loading

-possibility of disc damage/breakage-you have to buy new one

-possibility of delays in delivery

+the feeling of putting it in the drive

+trading(now why would you want that right?)

Just for the map alone i'd go with physical. Gotta love those GTA maps!

IF Sony offers a preload of the game then it would be a great deal, but without that I'd rather wait till the morning to get a physical copy, god knows how busy the servers will be and therefore how fast you can download it. Wouldn't be the first time that it takes me hours to only download a gigabyte from PSN.

The only real advantage is the full installation on the HDD, I'd prefer that over a disc as well.

If it's digital, doesn't that make it easier to make it available for download on PS4?

No this has nothing to do with PS4, you will get better performance if the whole game is located on your hard drive rather then it having to load stuff from the disc.

What if it was installed on the PS3's HDD?

AFAIK, it only needs to read the necessary files for validation and not the "actual", "game/world files", instead,

+Digital costs less, no tax on the game (well, I guess that depends where you live)

+75% of any RS game

+ much quieter, less strain on (my four year old) PS3
