GTA V Confirmed as Digital!

Recommended Posts

The price for the game on PSN is exactly $59.99 USD and Canadian. No taxes. I just purchased it.

You're getting digital and physical?

Yup. As I said previously I am purchasing it for myself and my brother.

European store updates with the pre-order on Friday the 23rd.

Why on earth would people download? You won't get to hold it in your hands and be able to smell that fresh game smell, admiring the artwork and booklets included inside. What is wrong with people?

Oh thats right, people got fat and lazy. I bet you walk to McDonald's pretty fine though. Time to get out of mommy's basement and see the real world.

a tad harsh. i myself have a broken blu ray i no longer need replace. good news.

Sony fixed the typo now and it says:

Please come back to the PlayStation®Store on PS3™ any time after 12:01am (PST) on September 17th, 2013 to download your game and access the in-game Atomic Blimp.

Instead of September the 18th. smile.gif

Nice smile.gif had me worried.

So what advantage will having a digital copy have over a physical copy?

I've pre-ordered (and paid for) a physical copy but if a digital one is better, let me know  smile.gif

I posted this on an earlier page but just to reiterate:

Well when you buy a game that is day one digital on PSN the game unlocks midnight of release day. So when people are heading off to pick up V at a midnight release, you can start your download.

I usually get decent speeds when I download games so it'll take me maybe 3-4 hours. Either way I will be playing long before a copy would ship to me or I could pick it up in a store since my EB is not having a midnight launch (it's in a mall).

I remember I bought MLB 13 day one digital which was a massive game. It was two parts that were around 11 GB's each. I got it downloaded in about 3-4 hours at I think 2 mb/s.

When you checkout it says that you can begin downloading GTAV off PSN at midnight of the 17th. So you'll get it a lot earlier (with a decent connection) than you would a physical copy unless you go to a midnight launch.

I know I wrote 3-4 hours for V but it's not as big as MLB 13 was so it'll probably take me a little over 2 hours to download it.

Remember It's 16-18 GB download

I've downloaded worse.

MLB 13 was two downloads that were both 11-12 GB's. Got it all downloaded in 3-4 hours on release date.

I'm not worried even if there will be a lot of people downloading. I've been downloading digital games off Steam and PSN for years.

So there is no difference in gameplay loading/speed?

I am pretty confident i'll get my physical one on the 16th anyway (always dropped a day earlier with every other title i've ordered) - so as long as the game doesn't run any different i'm happy.

No thank you icon13.gif

Seem me as more of a traditionalist gamer. I still prefer to have a physical copy of the game in my hand, it just 'feels better' and it's feels more like it's my own property. I won't the get the same feeling of anticipation and excitement on getting my hands on a physical copy as I would with a digital download version.

I'll pass on this. I got my pre-ordered Special Edition copy waiting to be picked up from GAME store on release day, and I'm sticking to that cool.gif

I don't think there will be. There shouldn't be a difference in gameplay.

Maybe one in loading because the entire game is already on the HDD so it'll access it faster. Your PS3 will probably be quieter, too since it won't be reading a disc but reading it off the HDD.

Nothing major. If you prefer physical, stick with that. I myself usually prefer digital but for V I want a physical case so I still have an SE on pre-order for myself.

No surprise here.

Still sticking with physical because I'm getting the SE and I prefer physical copies anyway unless there's a deep discount. It's not going to mean much if anything in terms of loading since the physical version has to install all the important stuff anyway. If you go the PS Store route just make sure you have at least 31 or 32GB free..

Why oh why? You've purchased the game to download, but are also purchasing a physical copy... You can't play them both at once you know. There's no point. I think some people on here will just throw money at R*, whatever it is, so long as there's a GTA V logo on it.

Shhhhh no more tears, I stated previously and to someone else that asked me that, that I am purchasing the game for myself and my brother.

Brother gets the digital and I have the SE on pre-order for myself. Have since May.

Hell yeah, preordered!!

Now the real wait begins. September 18th, 3am (for us East Coast gamers)

edit: how is GTA V only 15GBs!!! That's crazy. It's a massive open world game, TLOU was 26GB

It's a typo. We'll be downloading it midnight on the 17th!

But unfortunately, for the East Coast, a "midnight release" is still 3am.

I've recently been thinking about adding a SSD to my PS3 so I wonder if textures and everything would load even faster if you had the digital copy on a SSD. I have the CE on pre-order and I don't plan on cancelling. I guess I can see if there is a lot of texture popping like on Skyrim or RAGE and get the digital version if there is a problem. In a game this big, I could see textures and maybe draw distance being impacted by digital vs physical. I would imagine the DLC code from the CE will likely work with either.

Hmmm . . .

It seems that gaming will solely be digital in the future.

Doubtful. Even with MP3s and the like these days CDs are still been produced. If this ever does happen though I'll stop gaming altogether. While it's nice to see GTA V as a digital title I'm happy with the retail version. I like to physically own games even more so R* games with all the stuff they put in the game cases. I'm not a fan of digital games for many reasons.
