GTA V Confirmed as Digital!

Recommended Posts

More proof that GTA V will more than likely be digital:

One of them brings you to GameStop and the other (from the marketplace) brings you to the marketplace page of GTA V. The marketplace one is the one that says "coming soon".

This is in no way a confirmation of anything so make what you will of it but I do think it's likely.

No way that i'm going to be buying this badboy digital. First of all be prepared to pay a ridiculous amount of money...Crysis 3 is still 70 euros on there now and you know...you can find it for 30 on plenty of webshops. Plus i just want a physical copy of this one, the CE actually.

You got screwed over in your country then dude lol, all digital games here cost the same full price a normal game sells at a retail store just WITHOUT the taxes.

Like Last Of Us, I bought it on the PSN Store and if you check my transaction......$58.96, my friend bought it retailed and it cost him almost 66$ up front.

Why would you get this digital, I'm going to cherish my physical copy 'till I die.

Are there any ingame benefits of a digital? Except maybe slightly faster loading? (EDIT: You can install physical copies too, so no.)

As I stated earlier some people just prefer digital because it's more convenient for them due to where they live or they won't be able to easily pick it up on release day/be there for the delivery.

Digital also means you get to play the game faster, if you have a decent internet connection of course. PSN usually unlocks day one digital games midnight on release day. Then you can begin your download, take a nap, and several hours later already be in Los Santos while everyone else that didn't attend a midnight launch is waiting for receive their copy. Generally whatever pre-order bonuses you get in a physical copy you would get with a digital copy. Unless it's physical items like a hat, which to me is useless because I don't wear hats.

I already pre-ordered a physical copy of the SE edition of the game but if they put up digital...hell I might get that as well simply because I know I'll be playing long before 9 a.m. hits. Takes me a few hours at most to download a digital game. It's GTA...the only game that I would do this for... lol.gif

Yeah like Audiophile says you can get the game much faster than someone who has to wait for delivery.

Also I don't see what's the big deal, why complain about people getting the same game you're getting but digitally? I'm not against any of them as long as I have the game, and it's still cheap as everyone says like I stated above.

And for those that are not careful with their games, they can keep it forever even if the future consoles aren't backwards compatible you still OWN it on your old one without having to pay 20$ or something just to buy it again used.

Because you're 19 years old and you will not understand what feel those people who're playing the games for a long time. And what is special in physical copy of the game.

Yes, digital copies is a future, but modern gaming industry is soulless and digital copies only complement this

What the f*ck does age have to do with this? I own more physical games than I do digitally and buy over 60 games a year

It's PREFERENCE, I know a 38 year old that likes buying digital games so how does me being 19 change anything?

How about you use better responses next time.

While it would have been silly not to be, it's good to know that it's going to be digital from release. I just hope PSN follows suit. It seems that gaming will solely be digital in the future, hopefully the marketplace will be adequately prepared for the onslaught if many people choose to download.

I personally think that PSN will follow as, from what you said, Gaming is slowly going to become solely digital.

No no, read carefully what i said wink.gif

I was talking about webshops. No way in hell do i buy brand new games in the stores here. They charge around 60 or even 70 euros for a game. Webshops? I get my newly released games ranging from 40 to 55 euros. But for GTA V i'll make an exception. I want the CE and i want it ASAP, not gonna order it from a webshop, i'll go the midnight opening.

Since we're nearly two months from release I am hoping we hear something official soon about digital, if it will in fact be digital.

I really do think it will be based on what has already been written throughout this thread and as I stated, V has a PSN page and while it says "disc only" so far I have seen numerous games over the months turn from "disc only" to digital. For example Metro Last Light had a store page for a while and it said "disc only", closer to release it turned digital.

Hoping the same for V.

  • 1 month later...

Just noticed Splinter Cell Blacklist going up on the pre-orders page on PSN which I saw had it's own store page last week when it said "Disc only"

Also saw the new Xcom now available to pre-order on PSN also, which is made by 2K and published by Take Two who just a few weeks ago stated that their digital services are a success so far, huge chance for GTA V.

If they could somehow put it on Marketplace when Xbox One launches, that would be fantastic and i'd shelve over the money for that in a heartbeat. But i doubt it. I think we'll see a PC version mid next year and a port of that coming to X1 and PS4.

The only way it could be on the Xbone or PS4 is if they had backward compatibility or R* ported it over. And if they did that with digital, it would release disc based on next gen also.

At the moment neither console has BC, it is speculated that it will change though, but that is all it is, speculation.

Yup. Ah well it's no biggie. I will be fine with GTA V for a long long time to come. I honestly dont even need a next-gen console this year, let alone if i can even afford it.

which version will have higher performance the digital or the physical ?

digital. the game is installed on the hard drive and doesn't require access to the disc.

however the difference will hardly be noticeable. you're talking maybe a second or two at the most when loading something up.

Digital > 360 > PS3.

Doesn't really matter what way you play it.

Sony just confirmed GTAV will be a digital title on PSN available for pre-order soon.

GTAV was mentioned in the live stream. I'll find a legit link eventually but it's confirmed.

You can practically turn your physical copy of GTAV to digital on Xbox as you can install the entire game anyway. haha

If I can get everything I get in collectors excluding physical content via download, I'll download it.
