Really disapointed in the map size...

No matter what the size of LS is, you won't be disappointed in the game. You are also forgetting that V will probably have tons of interiors that you can enter and interact with.

 

Plus we haven't even seen the entire map yet.

I think this might be a bit of a bait thread but I'll admit to being a bit disappointed as well. Not because it's roughly the size of Liberty City, though. In fact, I wish it was the size of Liberty City. Then I would have been fine with it. But it's actually quite a bit smaller. And that's a bit disappointing. Hell, it's even smaller than MCLA. I mean, come on, what was R* thinking?

dude don't knock it till you play it.

 

Go back and play IV, I can guarantee if you turn off the hud and mini map and just walk around, Liberty City will NOT feel small at all. Then once you do that, imagine there being massive mountains surrounding the entire city, then once you imagine that, imagine climbing to the top of those said mountains and being able to see nothing but even larger mountains for as far as your eyes can see.

 

V won't be small, trust me.

From the footage/screen shots I've seen, the city doesn't look much different from the original Los Santos, which is a good thing. I'm glad we won't have to cross bridges/large bodies of water to reach other areas on the map.

 

I would like an RDR style map where it doesn't look like it's just a giant island in the middle of nowhere, though.

And we base that on assumptions of scales that are unverifiable and a map that is cut off at the end and constructed from multiple photoshopped pictures. Apart from that, there will be surrounding towns too. It won't just be Los Santos and nature. It's better to wait and see how big it really is, than cry about it before having real knowledge.

 

I'd say it is probably similar in size to LC. But I think people should wait with their conclusion about it being slightly bigger/smaller until more substantial comparing methods arise when we actually have this game.

 

This map will be so massive, that it's ridiculous to not be satisfied. Current gen can't handle more than this probably. R* actually stated that they toned down LS sprawl to keep the city from becoming boring.

I'm quite happy with the overall map size (even though it is also smaller than R* has claimed), I'm just disappointed in the city. But luckily I'm more interested in the countryside and small towns anyways. Plus, the map we have seen is pretty much perfectly stitched together (you don't see any distortion or anything in the map, after all... and even if we did, it wouldn't make a huge difference in terms of size). The two portions of the city that are covered up couldn't possibly be that big, and are usually considered when discussing the map size (it's not like I pretend there's no city in the spot that's covered up in the stitched together map). And the people who do these measurements know what they're doing. In fact, their figures on the map sizes of previous games have been more accurate than R*'s own figures. There's a fair bit of variation in the estimations, but only the most hopelessly optimistic people are claiming it to be the size of the map of GTA IV. Everyone agrees that it is smaller (the debate is now primarily whether or not the landmass is greater than, equal to, or less than the land portion of GTA IV, but frankly no matter what the city is significantly smaller because it still doesn't take up the same amount of space).

 

So maybe I technically don't know for sure, but that's the general consensus, and I'm basing my expectations on that. So that said, I'm not super happy with it. I'm not crying about it, though, and I never chose a side in the "Los Santos Size" thread. It just seemed reasonable to me that Los Santos would be the size of Liberty City, and they couldn't even do that. It's disappointing, because I think R* can do better than that. But I'll deal with it, and I'll enjoy the plenty of map the rest of the game has to offer (and I'm sure the city is fine, too).

While the city does look smaller it's hard to say right now because we don't know the sale of it. No reason to be disappointed yet.
