YOUR THOUGHTS ON REGEN HEALTH AND ONLY 5 STARS

_StackS_

Recommended Posts

StateofMind15

Difficulty:

Easy - Infinite health, NPCs die fast, Can carry every weapon(like RDR), Cars can't be damaged

Original - Health regenerates under 50%, Difficulty will change according to missions(like previous GTAs), health packs, getting into ambulances and food will heal you

Hardcore - Health doesn't regen, same health as NPCs, NPCs take realistic bullet damage, only health packs will heal you

Wanted Level:

1 Star - Batons, arrests.

2 Stars - Pistols, arrests. Poor accuracy

3 Stars - Pistols, Shotguns, Helicopters, Medium Accuracy

4 Stars - SMGs, Shotguns, SWAT, Attack helicopters, drive-by, Professional Accuracy

5 Stars - Rifles, Shotguns, SWAT, SWAT Tanks, Attack helis, drive-by, Best Accuracy

Health Regen:

-Will only start to regenerate during peaceful moments(not during shootouts, chases ect.)

-There is a 10 second delay before it starts, shooting or fighting will reset this delay

-Takes 2 ingame minutes to regenerate 1%, shooting or fighting will reset back to the delay before continuing

The difficulties will let everyone play how they want. People just playing for the story can play easy, regular players can play original, and people that want challenge can play Hardcore.

Health regen would be very balanced if my way is used.

Generally, the wanted system has always been unrealistic. If the series is growing more realistic with each new game, then it makes sense to limit it a little. Better police response is a must, though. Most gamers don't like that no matter where you are, the cops find you, because you don't always want to be chased.

Relax. Rockstar has changed a lot of things with the core mechanics of the game, so it's no surprise that they have changed and tweak other things as well. Rockstar doesn't just spontaneously change things around, they carefully weigh everything in and change where it's needed to preserve the balance of the system. The fact that there's only 5 stars now and that regenerative health has been added only shows that they have changed a lot of other things, the extent of which is still unknown. Right now there's no "I personally don't like it", there's only "I'm bewildered by how different things are this time" because we still haven't played the game yet and as such cannot judge the experience as a whole.

As for the regenerating health it worked fine in RDR so don't really have a problem with this, kind of made it the best of both worlds with it only regenerating to 50%.

The 5 star wanted level is fine if there is now a clear distinction between them. In IV there wasn't really much of a different between 5 and 6 stars.

With the police also using their line of sight rather than just knowing where you are, this will be apart of making the wanted levels more realistic.

lets be honest here

2* on GTA4 was pointless... so what I think has happened here is, they have removed 2* from the game.

and basically gone for a heli on two stars? to make it harder and faster.

I think the differences between 3, 4, 5 and 6 stars were pointless. What they did with 1 and 2 stars made sense to me. I hope they make it like this: 1 star, police follows you and tries to arrrest you. 2 stars, police will shoot at you and SUV's with police with shotguns will hunt you and chase you aggressively. 3 stars, NOOSE enforcers, roadblocks, sniper rifles on rooftops, a helicopter. (it would be cool if the news helicopter returned) 4 stars, FIB. 5 stars, Army hunts you down with Hunter helicopters, Rhino tanks, and the Hydra, and they all fire rockets at you. Complete unsurvivable madness.

R* never said there would only be five stars.   suicidal.gif

It was in the previews back in early May I think

Even that is false. You use "previews" (plural) when only one preview (Kotaku) said something to this effect: "Franklin had four out of five stars." The five stars only was not reiterated in any other preview, unlike regenerating health and tons of other features. Neither R*, not any of the previews, explicitly said "GTA V's wanted system will only have five stars" and Kotaku's phrasing was most likely erroneous.

You clearly haven't read all the previews kid. Cvg said that there is only 5 stars in their preview and their article of changes and what's in gta v. So yea id stop acting like you know what your talking about when you don't

Obviously some of you haven't played Red Dead Redemption, or Max Payne 3 on the higher difficulties to see that Rockstar has made combat tougher.

In Red Dead Redemption, you have about 150% health compared to an NPC. It takes just a couple more shots than it does to kill an NPC to get you down to the point where you are about to die. It takes a few seconds for your health to begin regenerating, then maybe ten for it to go back to full health. This isn't that bad considering the weapons in Red Dead Redemption don't have huge rates of fire.

In Red Dead Redemption's Hardcore mode, you have the same amount of health as an NPC, it only takes three to four shots to die. It takes a few seconds for your health to begin regenerating, once it starts it takes about twenty seconds to get to full health. No change in weapons of course, so their rate of fire is the same. But there is still a challenge.

In Max Payne 3, the higher difficulties are much like Red Dead Redemption - but there is no regenerating health. But you can carry up to eight painkillers around, which will give you some more health over time.

Sure, you can hide in cover in RDR and wait for regeneration - but in Max Payne 3 the AI has improved. They will throw grenades or molotovs if they have to, they will even rush you and try to get you out of cover. And unlike RDR, MP3 has automatic weapons - making it tougher to just run away from the enemy and hide.

Now, in GTA V we're going to have automatic weapons like in MP3, most likely the amount of health we did in RDR - but the difference is that our health will only regenerate up to 50%. Rockstar has also said they improved the AI in GTA V, so hiding in cover isn't going to be like it was in RDR - and will surely be a bit tougher than it was in MP3.

You guys just see "Health Regeneration" and throw your arms up in frustration thinking you're basically given invincibility. But if you were to play RDR, and MP3, and then think about the changes that will be in V concerning health, weapons, and AI - you'll see that there is definitely still going to be a challenge.

See the problem with your statement is that you keep mentioning ON the higher difficulties that rdr or mp was really hard. Well gues what... r* hasn't announced nor has every had a hardcore mode or difficulties so for the people who don't like playing easy games or who flat out are hardcore gamers then they don't want any sort of help and want your mistakes to take affect so that way there is actual strategy instead of just ruuning and gunning through hordes of people. If there is a hardcore mode to turn off the health regen then I will be extremly satisfied because through the whole gta iv story I never died and only did when I was free roaming looking for trouble and on a hour long 6 star wanted level chase...

If your health regenerated 100%, I'd be pissed. But I can deal with 50%. As long as I still have a good reason to go into Up N Atom Burger and chow down.

Only 5 wanted stars?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Seriously, so what? I'm all for preserving certain traditions in GTA, but this is not one of them. As long as the wanted system works well, the difference between 5 and 6 stars is totally arbitrary.

About the five stars, I don't know if I will like it or not, it depends on the change that will be made in the whole wanted system. Just by knowing it will become 5 stars, I don't see how that information alone can tell if the system will be better or worse.

As for health regeneration, I think it's totally incompatible with GTA games. It's too big a step towards arcade type games and it will kind of remove the point of having to look for something to refill your health, in many points in the game. I am sure that in most of the occasions, you see the bar regens to half by itself, so if it keeps doing that, it's not worth the trouble looking for health packs to replenish it. However, that "trouble" is one of the things that made combats or tight situations more realistic and immersive wow.gif

It's not something that will ruin the game, but in my opinion, it's definitely a negative change to point out.

Thanks that's the way I looked at it too. I feel they're trying to make gta v more mainstream by having it regenerating but your statement is exactly how I feel

R* has said in previews that half your health regenerates and that there will be only 5 stars now. I personally don't like it but I am sure I will still highly enjoy the game. What's everyone elses thoughts on these changes?

You ain't gotta like it cause the hood gone luv it!

But seriously, I don't like health regen either, but I hope it is optional just like Free Aim/Lock On has been on some games.

That way I can play in hardcore mode without that health regeneration bullsh*t, but if it is mandatory I can live with it.

Now, the five stars, I can't understand, what was so bad about the 6 stars? I mean, this just adds another layer of intensity to the game, and I just can't see what is so bad about the 6 stars that R* decided to remove.

I completly agree with your statements. I personally would like the health regen to be optionally for the players who complain about dieing easily and for the players who want a hardcore intense experience. That would make everyone happy I think. And as for the stars I agree too. I really wish it would go back to what happened in vice city. 1*= cop chases you on foot trying to bust you 2*s= cops beating you up to bust you and a backup car comes to chase after you too and if you try to escape they then pull their guns and shoot but still try to bust if possible 3*s= multiple police cars come chasing, helicopter hovers over and shoots, spike strips and road blocks, and undercover police cars with 2 undercover officers in them (who look like the 2 guys from miami vice :-) ) each weilding sub machine guns 4*s= more police cars, still spike strips and roadblocks, helicopter still, and swat trucks with guys hopping out of back and front 5*s= fbi comes in 4 door cars with a passenger in every seat all wielding automatic weapons and 2 helicopters trying to track down and shoot along with the police and road blocks and spike strips 6*s= THE MILITARY comes after you in long cargo trucks with 8 soldiers a piece in the cars, tanks come and shoot, road blocks with the long cargo trucks and spike strips, multiple helicopters, police, and all military wield m16s, police boats scour the sea and probably other crazzy stuff I don't notice at 6*s in vice city....

But yea I wish the new gta v would follow that and just add in the radius and line of sight to it and it'd be perfect. Gta iv 6*s was weak sauce and seems like instead of beefing it up like in vice city they just took out a star...

Why does everyone hates health regen so much? Does it have to do with a personal hatred towards call of duty or what? I would love to have my health regenerate to about a quarter or so when im in a heated battle.

My only concern for the 5 stars is hopping they didn't nix the military in V again. Fighting the army was one of the most intense moments I had in GTA. It was like making it to the final boss or something.

Can understand that people dislike the regen health feature but who the f*ck cares about only having 5 wanted stars lol

Traditionalists like myself who have made a sport of gaining and losing six stars since GTA III. Also, the same people who did this:

I find the "search radius" nonsensical and think it should be scrapped, have us have to stay out of police sight instead, make some more use of that shiny new AI.

The search radius is fundamentally related to police line of sight. You can only escape the search radius while out of their line of sight. The radius isn't arbitrary. suicidal.gif

I think we agree dude, even though i didn't respond to your earlier post, yeah I've played RDR without using deadeye. It's cool but, to me anyway, it's part of the game for a reason that being you get the ability to be the last man standing when you're way outgunned.

Which is f*ckin' awesome.

Thank you, brother. Glad to know I have someone's support/respect. I express skepticism about "five stars only" and have only been met with condescension from the OP and challenges from other members, none of whom have been able to provide links to primary sources confirming the "five stars only" rumor. Annoying. I can't believe more people here aren't upset about this alleged break from GTA tradition!

As for RDR and health regeneration, I suspect V will be a bit harder since enemy AI will have automatic weapons, as opposed to pistols and rifles. I was a bit perturbed by V's special abilities at first, but as long they aren't as forced on the player as dead eye in RDR, I don't mind them.

Health regeneration needs to be taken out. Health bars & numbered health was in the older GTA's so I just wanna keep it as classic as possible. We should at least get an option to use it or not.

Where was 5 stars confirmed? If it's true, I think it'll be bullsh*t lol. I don't want anything changing the classic features of GTA.

Yeah, Rockstar should have just made the exact same game as before, I'm so sick of them changing things that are needed for the series to actually develop and progress. And even though we haven't played the game so we still have no idea if it's better or worse, it's still a change, and I don't like change, just repackage GTA 4 and sell it again PLZ.

A video playlist with hours of content? That's the best you can come up with? Why can't you personally identify a single CVG article or video that specifically states "five stars only" if you are so certain? Because you've got nothing. Your incompetent, lazy ass couldn't even be bothered to locate the video where you specifically heard this alleged change mentioned, which is why you resort to lazy, uninspired name calling instead of hard evidence. It's obvious who the "bitch boy" is here.

Btw, all the CVG preview said was:

To what level stealth will be implemented remains unclear, but it provides a potentially exciting new route for players who don't want to end up with a five-star Wanted level and the entire LSPD on their tail.

Never does it say "five stars only" as you allege.

I also googled the CVG "bullet points" you mention and, guess what, wasn't there either:

I've done some thinking about the health regen. In GTA IV, if you only had a tiny bit of health left, all it would take is the slightest bump of a car to kill you, even if it's been a long while since you lost your health. R* is changing that. I just hope you can't regain health in the middle of a shootout or something.

I agree. icon14.gif

That is what most of you should be like. I'm more than sure that V will be VERY dangerous, specially in the wild, with all those wild cats and god knows what else they're hiding there, probably a bunch of hidden army camps, etc ...

As for the cop system, I believe they'll be tougher than ever before, you can tell by few clues we've been given so far;

- 50% health regen (good imo)

- Able to lose cops in the red circle and your harder to spot

- You can lure cops to gang territories and they'll help you kill cops

All of the above only indicate that cops will be brutal in this game, so no worries.

Obviously your f*ckin retarded because several other people on this forum and sleepingdogs forum have talked about the 5 star from cvgs preview and vid preview. Seriously dude your a complete douche. I don't just randomly generate stuff about gta. So look noob either watch the vid and listen or shut the f*ck up and get off the thread because your trailer trash brain is hurting everyone on this thread

Your link was from a mobile device, hence the "m," which brings you to a playlist in a desktop browser. dozingoff.gif

However, I did find what you were on about. At around 0:54:40, one of the commentators mentions "four out of five wanted stars," like the Kotaku article. This isn't an explicit denial of the sixth star, but I admit that it does give me pause hearing this from another source (assuming one report isn't derivative of the other). However, I find it odd that CVG doesn't mention this in any other article or make a big deal about it considering it has been a tradition for so long (IV, e.g., had a "time spent on six stars" stat).

In any case, I never accused you of "randomly generate stuff about gta," so much as taking an unsubstantiated rumor as confirmed fact. You are certainly the "complete douche," immature, and insecure (a jobless or working class virgin between the ages of 16-19, I'm guessing?), given how quick you were to resort to defensive name calling and escalate what could have been a respectful exchange. Sadly, I actually had to do the work to find what the f*ck you were talking about, so you're welcome. Still, an explicit confirmation of "five stars only" by R* or even CVG is MIA so no cookie.gif for you.
