YOUR THOUGHTS ON REGEN HEALTH AND ONLY 5 STARS

R* has said in previews that half your health regenerates and that there will be only 5 stars now. I personally don't like it but I am sure I will still highly enjoy the game. What's everyone elses thoughts on these changes?

Isnt there technically more than 5 stages of wanted tho? I heard you get star outlines before actual stars

No previews have said anything like this (to my knowledge), but I have had a similar theory. I believe that in GTAV there may be half-stars, which would ultimately mean there'd be 10 levels of police persuit.

I've done some thinking about the health regen. In GTA IV, if you only had a tiny bit of health left, all it would take is the slightest bump of a car to kill you, even if it's been a long while since you lost your health. R* is changing that. I just hope you can't regain health in the middle of a shootout or something.

5 Stars still sounds stupid as f*ck to me, though. They better know what they're doing here.

I'd like that.

Also, I really hope they reconsider the health regen, or if they don't that there is at least some way to turn off the health regen, by an option or a hardcore mode or something. And I hope there is no health regen in MP, that would be awful.

After playing IV after a while I can approve of regenerative health.

As for the 5 stars, I have no issue with it cause it's not like changing the system one star is suddenly going to make it much easier. Personally in IV I never really understood the need for 6 stars, they all just kinda seemed the same to me..

Half-Stars is an interesting idea, health regen (only half of your health comes back) is a must based on what Grand Theft Savage said (which is true and annoying)

R* never said there would only be five stars. suicidal.gif

It was in the previews back in early May I think

And I don't have a problem with it, it's not the only game that has ever changed it's routes so it's nothing new.

And I'm one of the rare ones that enjoy health regeneration

Even that is false. You use "previews" (plural) when only one preview (Kotaku) said something to this effect: "Franklin had four out of five stars." The five stars only was not reiterated in any other preview, unlike regenerating health and tons of other features. Neither R*, not any of the previews, explicitly said "GTA V's wanted system will only have five stars" and Kotaku's phrasing was most likely erroneous.

Not sure where you have been but it's even on http://www.gtav.net/info/

The guys here pretty much only put up confirmed info with sources on that site

That is a cheap band aid "fix" that does way more harm than good, half of your health coming back for no reason just because you waited for a few seconds is stupid and will make the game even easier, which GTA games really don't need to be, if that was the problem they could have simply made getting bumped by a car going not too fast and falling on the ground not do permanent damage, I really doubt we will fall on our faces as easily as in GTA IV anyway, or that we will take damage as easily with stupid sh*t like that, in GTA IV you could take damage for taking a step while drunk, ridiculous.

GTAF isn't infallible and, if I'm not mistaken, didn't attend the press release. They only posted that because of the Kotaku article which, as I already stated, never explicitly said V wouldn't have six stars. Use Ockham's razor, friend. Why is it that such a big change wasn't mentioned by CVG or any of the other publications who saw the demo? Explain to me why only one article even alluded to the number of wanted stars if R* made an explicit statement regarding the change?

Trust me, if GTA V is anything like Red Dead Redemption, or even it's additional Hardcore difficulty where the player has almost as much health as NPCs (but unlike RDR, V will have automatic weapons) - 50% health regeneration (opposed to 100% in RDR) is a godsend.

That's an idiotic way of looking at it. It's not like your health will just come back after of few seconds of hiding. I'm sure you have to be out of combat.

Rockstar aren't the ones that put up changes, we find it ourselves through other sites that have seen the actual game

Also CVG did mention the five star wanted level, I can go on with this all day until you realize that it's been proven, GTAF don't put up fake info into their trusted site, they know unconfirmed rumors and they know facts

I agree with part of your post. In IV the damage intake was quite messed up. You could jump off a highway bridge and lose 1mm of health, while you could fall on your ass while drunk and lose the exact same damage. Also, the character falls down too easily. The euphoria physics are awesome & amazing, but I think it can be a little exaggerated at times. We shouldn't stumble as much.

But I think the health regen is a great thing. Its always annoying when, for example, you just finish a shootout and are about to go accross the street to buy a hotdog but the sh*tty driver AI crashes into Niko with a slight bump that kills you. This also applies in a variety of other situations like jumping off a fairly high ledge. As for multiplayer, it would be even more useful. Its not fair how you kill a noob 5 times in a row, and each time he does a tiny bit of damage to you until you're dead. Health regen would reward the skilled players in this aspect, along with many more practical uses.

Why is it idiotic? IIRC previews mentioned health regenerating mid combat while in cover, R* obviously did this to make the game easier and to follow the trend of every f*cking thing else having regenerating health, it's how most stuff is done these days, like the on-disc DLC, if this really was for the reason you mentioned they would have made it 10% tops, which is more than enough to survive chip damage if we really take chip damage as easily for stupid reasons like in GTA IV, which like I said is very unlikely to be the case.

I agree. icon14.gif

That is what most of you should be like. I'm more than sure that V will be VERY dangerous, specially in the wild, with all those wild cats and god knows what else they're hiding there, probably a bunch of hidden army camps, etc ...

As for the cop system, I believe they'll be tougher than ever before, you can tell by few clues we've been given so far;

- 50% health regen (good imo)

- Able to lose cops in the red circle and your harder to spot

- You can lure cops to gang territories and they'll help you kill cops

All of the above only indicate that cops will be brutal in this game, so no worries.

If people don't want regen of half their health, their best course of action is to not get shot in the first place. Failing that, don't go into cover, hide behind it; health recovery is much, much faster if you're in cover (i.e. pressed the button/key for cover).

About health regen:

I welcome it as long as it doesn't regen fully. Like, we're in a shootout, start with full energy, get hit, then escape. It should regenerate, but only to a certain extent. So health packs, food and sleep make still sense ingame.

About 5 stars:

Why not? I mean the fifth star was kind of redundant. If we see a significant change with each star, 5 stars are enough.

It'll probably be more like Max Payne 3's regeneration, then. But instead of full health, it will be 50%. That does make the game easier, but it solves many problems. It's better than tripping and dying.

No, I really don't see why you should be given free health for no reason after you take damage, it should be a resource, like ammo, if you get shot, expect to be damaged until you can heal up with a health kit or something, I don't see why those shots you took should be nullified just because you waited a bit, it makes no sense. I also never really had a problem with stupid deaths while at low health, I was just extra careful and got through with it to heal up, I don't rush in the middle of the streets to get run over. I honestly hope this time there will be a hardcore mode, since the normal game is going to be even more easy mode than past games now that they have health regen and special abilities, it's only fair they include a hardcore mode to compensate.

You can go like this all day, yet you haven't posted any proof besides GTAF, a secondary source at best. The burden of proof is on you here, buddy. Show me a link to a source that explicitly says "five stars only" and I will concede and offer you a cookie.gif. Saying CVG posted it without proof isn't gonna convince me.

Again, I really doubt we will fall as easily and take any kind of damage as easily as in GTA IV, in Max Payne 3, you can throw your body around and take no damage, shootdodge into a wall or a chair or something, you will just fall down and get up with no damage taken, so this health regen will fix nothing because this problem won't be present in the first place, it will purely make it easier and more like generic shooters with regenerating health.
