In my opinion the mission replay feature introducted in TBoGT could be something a whole lot better: Instead of transporting the player back to where he was before activating the mission replay, the game would let him go on chronologically, passing the interruption. The player would have to go to the next mission start marker, the world would behave like it should at that point in the storyline, and you'll have to switch back to reality MANUALLY: Reminding or giving the player the option whenever an event (mission ends, mission fails, busted, wasted,...) happens or just peoridically reminding him every 10 minutes would completely wreck the illusion for many people. Also care have to be taken to let the player save and continuing this New Game Plus if he wants to, as this could be another potential immersion-killing element.

In short, this would help immersing you into the new game session and make the entire ordeal less clunky (What's up with having to use your phone every goddamn time you want to replay a mission Rockstar?)

All comments fire away.

EDIT2: And with the way Rockstar is making your choices in multiple missions matter in the grand heists, I would say they absolutely have to do this if they intend to keep the replay mission feature at all.

EDIT: Also, for some reason this has been confused with the Mission RESTART text message that appears every time you fail a mission. If you do confuse this with that, reread my post. If you still are confused, play The Ballad of Gay Tony, open up the phone after you've completed the last mission, and see what I mean. Do it. It's a great game.

If I get this straight... You want the game to continue... regardless of whatever happens in a mission?

Impossible. There are way too many storyline missions for that... This isn't Heavy Rain.

I'm confused, so what you're saying is you want the player to continue from the mission he plays.. and I didn't get anything after that.

When you talk about New Game Plus that reminds me of Batman:Arkham City which is basically like a much tougher campaign mode for experienced players that want a challenge.

No, it's just a revamped Mission Replay feature like in TBoGT, with the cellphone. It's just that you can continue indefinitely. TV, Internet, in-game world would behave like it should at that point in the storyline, but you would still have your purchased properties and money intact. I don't think there's anything hard to implement, The Ballad of Gay Tony had this.

Agreed, there will be an unthinkable number of different scenarios in the game. This includes various different endings etc. Something like this will be very difficult to implement and in my eyes just impossible. Since the world should behave like it should what if one of the protagonists dies during a mission, are we supposed to continue the game with one protagonist less? You can argue that death is the only exception to your idea but that defeats the entire purpose of it really. I didn't like Tbogt's system as well. I'm just so used to starting a mission from the top if I do fail it initially. But at least the game didn't force me to start again from the middle of a mission so it's okay.

So you'll just skip the failed mission by default?

I hope that's not what you mean... but I'm afraid it is. tounge.gif

Wait a minute, are we on the same train of thought here? What I meant was that Rockstar should improve upon the Mission REPLAY feature. Y'all sound like you're confusing this with the Mission RESTART text message that pops up every time you fail a mission.

What he's trying to say is once you beat the game you should be able to do all the missions again with the stuff you've already obtained (such as weapons and money)

Well, you could've said it clearly. And that is already confirmed so I don't see what the big deal is. Once you complete the game you can use the phone to replay any mission.

It's okay. I thought everybody here have played it already tounge.gif. Fun game, you should check it out.

@ Dope_0110 Well as I said, after replaying a mission with the phone, instead of returning to your finished game, you could play the mission after that like you are still advancing the game. The idea that this could help immerse you into the game more and make the game less clunky (less having to push up your phone and select the next mission with these stupid Xbox 360 DPad).

Oh, that part is what you added. Well, it wouldn't be bad I guess. But also, it's not much trouble going trough the phone to start a mission you want, especially now that it's a smartphone.

But that would make a lot of sense with heist missions as they require numerous side missions that lead up to the heist so I'm all for it.

It would saves us a lot of loading time this way.

Yeah, why not, but aren`t we getting the replay option which is almost the same thing?

Well, you could've said it clearly.

Yes he could have. The only reason why I came into this topic was because the " New Game Plus?" topic title reminded me of Deadspace 2's system. I would of never bothered to finish the game twice if they hadn't implemented it so I guess it will increase the longevity of the game. So I don't see any problem with it AceHigh11. Sorry, I got confused because of the way you presented the idea in the opening post.

So you could just go to the next mission after the one you replayed? But you can also choose to skip back forward in time. And your possessions would come with you.

Not gonna lie, that sounds pretty cool.

It would be cool. If you struggled on a specific mission, but you passed it anyway, you could always go back and improve. Very professional and re-playability is there.

Not only that, but with the multiple choices affecting the main heist, these additions are essential to maintain replay value by retaining the choices throughout multiple missions.

NG+ allowing you to keep all clothing, safe houses and other properties you bought in your first run of the game would be very nice. And possibly keeping all the money you've earned or cheated to

get. lol Most games that had NG+ were always good. As long as it was done for the reason in case you missed something, failed something or forgot something. Or if you never actually got to do something specific. Those are really the only good reasons for a NG+ originally.

Come to think of it, GTA games are usually very easy to defeat except for a few missions that can cause problem, mostly escort type of missions where you must keep stupid AI from being killed and some driving missions when you're forced to use a certain car with atrocious handling. But besides that it's very easy.

So how would you like the game being harder when you replay the missions. Not some super-extreme, but a bit harder then the original story so it gives you more challenge this time.

I don't think that it'll be that big a problem anymore. Rockstar has surely tighten up the gunplay mechanic with their experience making Max Payne 3, so there will be less exploits like overelying on cover and it will depend more on pure skill this time around. Come to think of it, it is GTA IV that shouldn't have this hard mode. With its swingy and unreliable control, increasing the difficulty can only make the player more timid outside of cover and the game more dependent on luck.

About your question, I think that Rockstar could give the game economy more unpredictibility, make the enemies take more risk, have more enemies, etc.
