drsmelly
I have played a lot of games that are in a GTA style like Saints Row, Driver, and the quite good Saboteur but lets face it they just don't have that something that GTA has it simply dose it best. Its all those little details and no matter how much I play it I never get board. I was hooked buy the first GTA and have played them all BUT I am hoping that V will be my new fave. So don't be shy express the love you have for GTA long may it continue.

wwinterj
I admit no open world game like GTA matches GTA at all. I don't mean Red Dead Redemption here as that's one of my favorite open world games. I did however only play through IV once and never played it again. Don't want to. It was however the first GTA game I got 100% in.

EvilFuture
Its all those little details and no matter how much I play it I never get board. You know what OP, you're right. I don't get board either. Seriously though, you're exactly right. Saints Row, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs, all those games are games (excluding Saints Row) are good, but they just don't have the same feel that GTA has. You can play GTA for hours and never really get bored with it, but you can play, for example, Saints Row, and get bored within 5 minutes because there's just something about it that feels... empty. drsmelly
No that's not it I want those games to be good as its such I long gap between GTA's that I want something new to play but don't immerse me in the same way its like the song says "nobody dose it better but sometimes I wish someone would". As for you GTA Freak 10 you hit the nail on the head. I often sit down at 11:00 to play for an hour or two and when I look at clock again its 3pm and I have played other open world games all the way though but when I am finished I always go back to GTA. Davidx123
no, it's simply that it's GTA. it's a brand, and people are willing to cut a brand slack, more then they would be willing to a less known one. if GTA X and some True crime something something would compete, and had similar flaws, GTA would still get higher scores for the mere fact it's GTA, and we are willing to overlook a lot. BUT THE BENZ
There might be games out there trying to copy GTA or something...but I've never actually thought OH, that game is almost as cool/good/genius as GTA. Unique sh*t is unique, plain simple. GTA = comedy, action, violence, music, cutscenes, dialogue, story! The games trying to copy that = who the f*ck really cares?! #fact

Dope_0110
True, there is no ''gta-clone'' game that really surpasses any GTA released around the same time. True Crime series was kind of hallow and there was something weird in it, and it's huge cities. LA Noire felt to me very similar to TC series somehow. I don't know how to explain, just that feeling of a huge city but nothing that attracts you. Maybe that's the advantage of GTA having smaller but more interesting cities as every corner is a new interesting location. Saints Row is just some over the top GTA 3 arcade game with far worse character motions, voice acting and car handling. Just Cause is really good actually when it comes to control of character and random fun with it's grapple hook and parachute, but it's world is too big and too empty with nothing interesting in it and awful voice acting. Also bad driving. Driver series is the original arch nemesis of GTA, but it fell back due to bad character control and lack of features though I'm not sure how good San Francisco or Parallel lines are. Godfather I was a great game. Had a few technical flaws but it was just as fun as any GTA and better in some way such as fighting. Though it's problem is it came out around the time of SA which just blew everyone with it's size and content, but still Godfather is a great game. Godfather II messed it up though. And then there's Mafia. In my opinion that's one game that comes close to having everything as good as GTA, even better than GTA in some segments. Both Mafia games had better ped animations than GTA. If you just stand and look at them, they walk so natural it unbelievable. Mafia's flaw is basically having no sandbox (there is actually sandbox but nothing to do really), so you're focused on the story and once the story is finished, that's it. With more features added to make it enjoyable to just play around in sandbox, Mafia would be just as good as any GTA. Can't remember any more right now. So basically, what makes GTA better is good feel of the character and vehicles that we control. A lot of activities that make it enjoyable to just play without doing missions. And good stories with usually perfect voice acting. And radio stations that have no match in any video game. EDIT: And another thing that really stands out in GTA games in making you feel like you're part of the world and have a relationship with the characters around you. Especially in IV. Again, only Mafia (and sort of Godfather) comes close. Edited June 9, 2013 by Dope_0110

epicluca
GTA = comedy, action, violence, music, cutscenes, dialogue, story! That's a bad example because every game has music, cutscene, dialouge and story. A better example would be that because GTA was literally the start of a genre, the people who make it KNOW how to make it. GTA is Coke and all the clones are King Cola, GTA is full of wit and appropriate comedy, not slapstick comedy that get's thrown it at any random point, it also has precise details along with a huge amount of it. Furthermore they basically recreate a whole city but change EVERYTHING about it, renaming buildings, brands, cars. They could just be lazy and name everything how it is but they actually name everything themselves, with belieavble names too. Not sh*tty gag names like "Cockhard Tower". R* North also know how to create belieavable characters with believable backstorys, that can make us become emotionally attatched to the character, even hiring musicians to create amazing music scores to go with the games atmosphere as well as lisencing period music to listen to in cars. Also they put alot of time into their games. In between GTA V's development time (2008-2013) there has been 2 whole Saints Row games, they were both inadequate, the stories were ridiculous and the gameplay was also inferior to GTA. R* know they're the best, they don't need E3 or any major marketing to sell their game because they know it will sell.

Algonquin Assassin
The thing is many other open world games actually excel in some areas better than the GTA series, but the series just has those right ingredients that give it that "magic". I've seen the GTA series grow over the years and while I've played some great open world games GTA runs deep in my blood and I can see nothing else taking its place. TrevorSpeed914
Saints Row 2 and 3 were superior to the recent GTAs. I had so much more fun with that series than the DLCs and IV.
tinman187
It's the whole atmosphere. The music, humour, dialogue, story, wonkyness ... It creates that "anything can happen" vibe that R* seem to nail everytime. Sleeping Dogs was awesome, but there was something about it that didn't click well with me that only GTA and RDR managed to do.
