Trying to make videogames as photorealistic as possible is boring. I'd rather they go for a unique, fun to look at, style. Which is what R* is doing.

I dunno, I like photorealism where it makes sense, but games will always be stylized to an extent. Because we don't really base games on actual reality, they're more based on cinematic reality, that is, things have a purpose, they're meant to look good and consistent, requiring the use of color palettes, color grading, certain lighting techniques, etc.

I'd argue that R* games seem to aim primarily for that kind of movie realism. Characters look fairly realistic, the environment isn't over-the-top, things for the most part seem to aim to look as realistic as possible given the limitations. But they're stylized in the sense that they also communicate a certain atmosphere.

Tbh, I firmly believe that Rockstar could build an engine of this equal fidelity. Its no doubt the fox engine looks better. But yeah, npcs, open world game, traffic, etc. Kojima can put aside more memory for graphics with the Fox engine then the GTA engine. Maybe next gen Rockstar will create something similar.

Ground Zero is open world. Maybe not GTA scale but it is still an open world game.

No I understand that thats why I said npcs and traffic, they can denote much more processing power to graphics because theres a multitude of processor heavy aspects that are missing from MGS5.

We are near a time where all games will look like that, which is great news for everybody. icon14.gif

Then the game probably would feel very stiff.

Not really with nextgen consoles they can finally catch up to pc's meaning graphics will be great but they wont be held back on memory meaning there will be a variety of way more animations making the game more fluid

But isn't Metal Gear Solid V heading for PS3 and Xbox 360 just like GTAV is?

Based on what we have seen so far I think it suits the MGS universe very well, but I think it will fall short in terms of delivering the softness of Rage. After all, that's why it's so fun to run people over in GTAIV.

I find it interesting how physics and actual gameplay were never demonstrated in that tech demo. Just "Ooh look at our pretty cutscenes".

Look, you can make the best looking car around, but without wheels it's not going anywhere. I don't give a f*ck about lighting tricks, just show me the damn game in action.

That's actually technically real-time. Watch the GZ gameplay, you'll see the true gameplay and the graphics is the same.

I still didn't see takedowns, violence, shooting, or even how the stealth works. They should show more gameplay in their trailers.

I mean, look at ENODO and the dream engine demo. Both show off graphics, yet they also have many cool gameplay and environmental elements in them. Enodo has that reactive AI and the dream engine had that cool fall.

Fox engine, meanwhile, is all like "Look at my cool lighting!" and then expects me to buy the next MGS strictly off of that. No. Even the first GTA V trailer showed off the environment and people actually doing things other than stand there. Even had a police chase. That's what I need to see.

Plus, Rockstar seems to have JUST gotten used to RAGE. Do you guys really want them to switch engines now? At this stage? Really?

What the f*ck are you talking about?! It's just a teaser and very much to show off the environment with the new engine. This isn't Call of Duty are anything, this is a game where the looks are very important, you're sneaking all the time so if the environment looks like that it really adds to the immersion. If you know the game it's just wow, why would they even need to show of gameplay already, they just announced it now, theres no releasedate yet and you know how it was in the previous MGSes and it worked..

They actually show gameplay for their games. You think we'll see real gameplay for GTAV? NO. And please don't call the trailers or the 2 seconds in Franklins trailer gameplay cause that is just bullsh*t. You could make trailers like that even with the worst gameplay there is, it's mostly cutscenes anyway. If you play this game like it's meant to be played you're doing nothing more than trying to avoid enemies anyway, so even with this you've seen enough, certainly for a first teaser.

Yes to a point however when people have asked if mgsv is coming to nextgen he always says "i cant talk about it right now" thats almost a 99% chance that the game is coming but he is waiting to announce it. Theres a new trailer coming out on the 11th for the game and i would not be surprised if at the end of the trailer it says also coming to nextgen co soles, or i could see kojima showing up at the sony press conference and announcing it

If there's any engine out there, it's definitely gonna be Frostbite.

FOX looks nice and all, but I'd imagine that's it, I don't think it can do things the other engines can do.

Such as?

Such as Frostbite.

Well I was referring to "things".

No need for an answer, I realized where you're coming from. Photorealism can be achieved even with a 2006 Engine. With static environments and static lighting, with little to no interaction.

Exactly. Anyone remember how MGS2 looked when the magazine previews came out? It was pretty much photorealistic. And what about The Getaway 1? That first picture that was released looked like somthing that someone took in London. And that was back in 2001! Even the Steam engine from HL2 produced releastic graphics.

No way have consoles caught up to PC. PC advances too quick for consoles to catch up. That game will look the best on PC.

It can deff catch up to medium maybe close to high gamig rigs however gaming pcs that cost a pretty penny the ps4 wont stand a chance against

Fox Engine is cool and all.. hell it looks really great! But I like what R* is doing with its Rage Engine and how it fits for the job of every game R* has used it in, and just look at what they did with it in Max Payne 3, that game looked amazing(IMO). I most definitely think that they are updating it and making it ready for next gen as we speak/type, so give them the time and the Rage Engine will be just as fantastic as the Fox Engine or even more fantastic..

Agreed, most video games tend to use color filters and such, I was surprised to not see any of that in the FOX engine demo.
