Los Santos = Size of Midnight Club: LA?

God, I always dreamed about MCLA, but then my XBox broke and I didn't want to fix it. So I have never bought and played MCLA, yet. But after seeing these screens I am happy I haven't. This map is so tiny, so you will know everything after some hours of gaming most likely.

No!!! You are wrong! i have the game, the map looks small but it is big to drive around,my opinion is that it is the best racing game so far.

It could be about the same size if you include South Central part, probably even a bit bigger. I picked up MCLA yesterday to drive around and get a bit of LA feeling, since Los Sanots will be just like Midnight Club LA, except you can get out of the car, and shoot, and fly airvehicles, and boats, and visit honkers...

Maybe the original MCLA not, but you should see the original+South Central.

In my opinion, LS map is something like this:

Los Santos will be bigger than MCLA's map. Looks like LS is somewhere near 2 times larger.

If that indeed is the case ( it seems highly unlikely), then mark my words:

LS is going to feel literally gigantic! MCLA itself felt much, much larger than Liberty City ever did, IMHO.

Miss Darko

If Magic_Al's calculations are correct, doesn't that make GTA V's LS significantly smaller than MCLA's LA?

"Unlikely " is what I had meant to write.

I always thought that from North to South, East to West the MCLA map felt really small, if you drive the entire ring highway it feels kind of big but then again if you drive any ring-highway in any game it makes the map feel big.

If the LA of MCLA is as big as Los Santos,  then the city by no means would feel small.

@Magic_ Al-  How big is MCLA?

Using a screenshot of MCLA's GPS view vs. Google Maps, if the MCLA "Sports Center" is the same size as the Staples Center, the game map is exactly 5 square miles without the South Central DLC.

Does scaling the two cities with the eight lane roads as a reference make sense? If so, what is the size of MCLA then?

It would be good if someone could enlarge the GTAV map and put it next to the MCLA map including south central, using the freeway as a reference for size.

Anyone got the time + tools for a quick scaled comparison between the two? Perhaps using the coliseum from both.

I remember MCLA very distinctly. The map looked very small, but oh man it was a visual illusion. Going 100 mph down the streets looked like you were moving slower than a turtle on the minimap.

It's been a time since I played MCLA, the map was small but felt very big, and that's because the map was smaller than in the original version. I was amazed with what they did on the PSP, the graphics were also very advanced for it. Anyway, before that I was thinking the city would feel small, but now, I believe it won't. Probably the V map will be a bit larger than LA+South Central.

The Coliseum in MCLA is nowhere near a realistic scale to begin with though, I think it's only like half the size of the real one if that.

And for another map size comparison, Burnout Paradise (without the Island DLC) is supposed to represent 400 square miles.

AFAIK only that one horribly wrongly scaled map comparison had listed Burnout Paradise's map as 200 sq miles (and JC2 as 400 sq miles, which someone had made comparisons and JC2 map is more like 10x the size of SA, so about 140 sq miles in reality), which it is simply not, I'm not sure how big it is, but there is no way it is anywhere near that big.

Will any good soul do an 8-lane road comparison?

Yeah I meant to type 200 but hit the 4 instead. haha

Ok, quick dirty & probaly not anywhere close to accurate. I've upsized the V map so that the section of road circled in Orange is roughly the same width in pixels (7) as the section of road on MCLA that is circled.

Here is the MCLA map laid-over the V map with those two circled areas lined up.

Just Cause 2 IS 400sq miles/1000sq km+

(0:45)

But there is no way that Burnout Paradise is 200sq miles.

@Fisha695 Thanks for that, I bet if you rearranged the MCLA map you would get a more or less equal landmass to Los Santos, which is big enough (5sq miles I think?)

Yeah it would be amazing if LS was that big. I think it could be tbh. Compare Vinewood/Hollywood hills roads in both; they are roughly the same size, as are the blocks in downtown.

MCLA "sprawls" horizontally more than LS, though.

It does seem that way, but personally I think it's impossible to judge how sprawling a city feels until you have played the game. MC:LA doesn't look that large or sprawling at all but when you are actually driving around it feels massive. If this is the case with GTAV then we are in for a treat to say the least.

LS is bigger than LA from N-S--- (1)

LA bigger than LS from E-W----(2)

(1) plus (2)

LS about the same size of MCLA.

In other words, EPIC win for us!

I still think LS on the blue print map is an optical illusion, much like MCLA's map. So LS is massive as a lot of people have been stating the whole time colgate.gif

Los Santos is definitely bigger than Los Angeles with South Central expansion pack.
