Los Santos = Size of Midnight Club: LA?

Lock n' Stock

I've just been playing Midnight Club: Los Angeles, and something had me thinking. As you know, some people have complained about Los Santos in GTA V being too small. Now when playing MCLA I noticed that the map doesn't look too big, though when you actually play it you feel like it is a very expansive and big enough city to drive around and race in. Judging from the GTA V map of Los Santos alone, it looks to be a similar size to Los Angeles from Midnight Club, but I can't help but feel like it's a bit smaller. Let's compare.

What do you think? Is Los Santos the same size or slightly smaller? Just want your thoughts on this, that's all.

Looks to me as if V is around twice the size of MCLA. MCLA felt like a decent size, even excluding South Central (which isn't on the pic above) so V's map should feel alright.

Definitely bigger, I think we should just face it this game it going to be huge as is the city too with a ton of interiors there is no way in hell this game will feel small ant petite, it will feel epic in size and the vibe will be astonishing.

Okay so I've just had a closer look at both maps, and a good way of figuring out a size comparison is to look the beaches on both. If the piers are both the same size as each other in both games, that I think that might make Midnight's Club's LA 3/5 the size of GTA V's LS.

The thing that makes me feel as though Los Santos is smaller is because of the number of roads look slightly less so than MCLA.

Seriously? Barrels as collectibles?

Smashing 10 barrels each times unlocks a cheat, play the game first. wink.gif

Well what else for a racing game? It's pretty creative if you ask me. tounge2.gif

If most of Los Santos's major streets are as wide as that one in that screenshot looking down on Michael rappelling on the FIB tower, then we're in for a treat.

Driving will be way better than IV.

It's either that or floating R* logos. The barrels don't mean anything; it's just a model that fits in with the environment and stands out as a collectible.

Good point, I've tried spotting that area on the map somewhere.

That'd be fine by me.

Though we haven't seen the whole map of V yet (People seem to think R* would show off all of Los Santos in the CE adds for some reason, let's hold on for solid confrimation people) so I'm sure there's more to Los Santos than what we've seen so far.

Forget that.

Looking at pictures in comparison, I'd say LS is a lot bigger. Midnight did feel big though, so LS should feel massive.

@Below: Well I've learned something new here. I've only ever had the Complete Edition and I always believed it to be the west section. I should have played it more.

I apologise LazyBoyEight.

Haven't played it personally but it looks like this extension is actually South Central:

@Magic_ Al- How big is MCLA?

don't forget with MCLA, you can't even get out of the car and go for a walk in someone's backyard or go in buildings or anything. so aside from the fact the V's LA will probably be significantly larger and it will also have a massive advantage in playable area because of gameplay

I have a feeling that we will be shocked at the amount of interiors we will be able to enter. That in itself will give the city a more life like feeling and in turn seem bigger then it is. Which by no means is saying the city will be small but having more enterable interiors will just give the player more to explore.

Using a screenshot of MCLA's GPS view vs. Google Maps, if the MCLA "Sports Center" is the same size as the Staples Center, the game map is exactly 5 square miles without the South Central DLC.

Really! WOW!!! That would mean it is nearly as big as RDR!!

^True but you have to take into account that a racing game doesn't have as much interactivity so they gave a little more driving space compared to the GTA games which tend me far more interactive (detailed interiors but more compact overall square mileage).

I think GTA V will be like twice the size of MC:LA. I have the complete edition and it's a pretty big map, though. Or at least it feels that way, anyway.

It's weird, I think the MCLA map looks a bit smaller than GTA V's Los Santos (GTA V's seems a lot more condensed, though), but the figures that have been given make it bigger. Ehhhh... I find myself wondering how R* would think that would be okay. Wanting to do justice to Los Angeles and then making it smaller than a racing game? Sounds legit, R*.

Luckily the rest of the map is huge.

I'd guess MCLA's "world" is 6000 units wide just like GTASA and GTAIV. The drawn map of MCLA looks a lot less dense than a GTA map because it only shows where you can drive and doesn't include most buildings or alleyways that would exist if you could move foot. With all detail shown then things like houses and freeway ramps look pretty close in scale with the maps the same width.

I'm playing MCLA right now and the map may look small but actually feels pretty big when you are playing. And having the South central expansion pack makes it even bigger. But with that said I think that los Santos is clearly bigger.

I loved driving on the highway in MCLA, if V's highway is anything like it I will have a blast.

God, I always dreamed about MCLA, but then my XBox broke and I didn't want to fix it. So I have never bought and played MCLA, yet. But after seeing these screens I am happy I haven't. This map is so tiny, so you will know everything after some hours of gaming most likely.

It looks tiny but it feels huge when you're playing it.
