Will GTA V run better on PS3 or X360?

Judging how all the demos were shown on PS3. I go with PS3.

They probably showed them the demos on the PS3 because they can print everything on one bluray disc for that system, so it is easier to do that. My guess is the Xbox one will look better, just like it does with IV.

Why do you judge if off of a game from 2008? They made it for the 360 and ported to PS3. Judge it off of Max Payne 3. I'll put a video below:

Why would you judge an open world game against a linear shooter instead of against the two open world games made for the same consoles by the same developer?

It doesn't make much sense.

GTA IV was their first open world game and they had been developing it more for 360. The delay was for PS3. RDR was suppose to be a game just for PS3 but was later ported. Still the PS3 has some better things. Now for Max Payne 3 it is their most recent updated Rage Engine we've played. Why wouldn't we judge it off of it? Each 3 were made from different developers but still got help from other Rockstar studios. How does it not make sense? Maybe I can explain it better?

The fair comparison is Red Dead Redemption for two reasons. One, that was the most recent open-world game that Rockstar has made. Two, GTA V looks just a hair better than Red Dead Redemption, according to some of the people who have seen the most recent previews.

As for why Max Payne isn't a good example: Max Payne 3 is Rockstar's most recent game, but Max Payne 3 is nothing like an open-world game. It is very linear, and it is meant to be seen one way, which is the way that Rockstar wants you to see it. You can't explore the world in Max Payne 3, aside from some interior rooms that usually have some extra painkillers and golden gun parts. Without having to render so much, Rockstar has more room to make the graphics look better.

A better comparison video would be Red Dead Redemption, for the reasons explained above.

So you want to judge a ported version to a develop one? How is that fair? For graphics yes go to Red Dead but for performance then you watch Max Payne 3. Which is why I listed Max Payne 3 because its mostly going to be the same performance for both console just like it was for MP3.

Reasons not to judge RDR:

It was develop for 360 mostly and ported to PS3

They didn't know how to use the PS3 as a result the performance could of been better

Reasons to judge MP3:

It was develop on both consoles and PC

They did know more about the PS3 which makes it have better performance.

Even for a port they look the same. The 360 is a little more brighter but that isn't nothing you can fix in the settings. Found a better video:

The Max Payne 3 video still doesn't really help. Say what you want, but it isn't an open-world game. That is the killer difference here. Yeah, it was developed side by side, but that still doesn't make up the difference when it comes to rendering the world.

I really didn't see any difference in the Max Payne 3 video, both it the way it played, and the way it looked. Aside from the headset that Max was wearing towards the beginning. It was a little more noticeable on the PS3 version. monocle.gif

EDIT: After reading your edit, I wanted to throw in another difference I noticed from that video. In terms of graphics, the PS3 version was a little blurry in most of the shots, compared to the 360. I think that was the case with GTA IV, too.

Max Payne 3 looks much better on Xbox just saying

I'm sorry if i sound like a fanboy but it doesn't. The lighting is a bit off and the shadow effect is way off. PS3 is picture perfect.

The PS3.

RDR was run in 640p and upscaled so its likely that GTAV might get the same treatment. RDR looked pretty sharp and jaggy on the XBOX so Im assuming that the PS3 will look better if RDR's looks are anything to go by.

I don't know if its blurry or lighting differences. Cause the PS3 version is more dark then the 360 version. Which is why I'm not comparing the performance of GTA V on RDR. Its getting made side by side which only Max Payne 3 did. Its only fair to compare those together cause neither was a port.

I think we shouldn't be worry. GTAV is in full development since 2008 so I predict that Rockstar have more practice to create the stable product.

I know that RDR was with some FPS falls on PS3 (and maybe on XBOX) in a hot game and graphic moments.

And this is not ordinary. The both consoles has been released 7-8 years ago. So in many games there are problems with perfomance.

But I believe in Rockstar.

Both will be the same so go with whatever version you want. I'll be returning back to Playstation with GTA V because my brother has got himself a PS3 and we can play online together. That's the only reason. If this wasn't the case I'd go with the 360 version been as I have IV and EFLC on the 360. I'm not worried about any version and neither should you be.

Judging how all the demos were shown on PS3. I go with PS3.

Except that's not true.

Answer for OP: Yes

How is that not true? Going by the information we have it is true. Why would Rockstar show off the worst looking version? They shown off GTA IV and RDR on 360. MP3 I don't know but they look the same in every way. So how am I wrong?

Some people saw the Xbox version. Gamekings or something like that. A dutch site.

The game suffers from minor problems on some platforms because of its limited capacity while there are many cars on the streets. (XBOX 360 issue)

Just because one or two did doesn't mean nothing. They shown off the PS3 version for a reason.

Pointless? More money for Rockstar and he plays with more players.

On a serious note: it will run and look better on PC

$120 for the same game? That is really a bad call with your money. Buy it for the system you have the most friends on/play with the most.

Why are you forcing someone not to buy the game twice? It's his choice, jesus. confused.gif

I do agree it's a waste of money ( you pay twice the same thing ), i was joking before. I can understand if he's got friends on both consoles... anyways he is free to do whatever he wants with his money, of course!

I expect the gap will be much much smaller than with GTA IV, but I still think the 360 version will have the edge technically. Why? Because the Xbox is essentially a PC in a console casing, and R* and most other devs can hack code for PC in their sleep. Whereas the Playstation is a bizarre piece of alien technology that Sony builds from the ground up and every time they make a new one it's like the first day of school for the devs. Thankfully this far into a very long console generation most devs have it licked. But they will never fully catch up compared to what they can do on PC-style architecture. The only possible issue with the 360 version would be either multiple discs or compressed sound/texture files.

That said, I'm getting both versions anyway, I always do with big games. I have a problem... confused.gif

I agree it's a waste of money, but it depends on the situtation. If he has friends that are on 360 and PS3, or people who have one of either, then it's a smart choice, even though financially it isn't great lol.

I bought RDR on 360 on release, but bought the GOTY edition for PS3 earlier this year.

Always wanted to play it on PS3, but I didn't want to get rid of the 360 version. So now I have two RDRs lol.

I honestly don't care. I doubt I could tell a difference, like: "Man this ran so much smoother on my other console". If graphics and performance are what you want.. invest in a PC. If you are more about a gaming community and ease of use... PS and XB are both great. I buy it all because I am a baller. I kidnap your favorite cat.. and then sale it to your favorite chinese food spot. I download games from my PC to play on my PS while I chat on the XB. If I ever took part in any console war.. I would have to shoot myself while I was hanging.

That different. One is the regular disc and the other is game of the year that should be half off. You didn't spend full price on it. Now I can understand that. But buying two of the same games at release for full price wait a while and get it later.

I got RDR on both consoles. I first got the regular one but the disc got overheated after a year. Then I got a game of the year one and still works. I won a bet and got the 360 game of the year for free. ( It was a sports bet )

Actually no. The 360 version is the SE and I bought all the DLC packs like Undead Nightmare, Liars And Cheats etc. In the end buying the GOTY edition probably worked out a lot cheaper.

Though as I said I didn't buy the PS3 version until this year. I agree buying the same game for two platforms on release seems a bit odd, but I suppose if the guy has a friend who desperately wants to play GTA V, but can't get it for whatever reason he still has a copy he can play himself.

This is what I will be running.
