So...What's this like? Is it worth buying?

Can you drive vehicles? And is it open world?

I haven't drove a vehicle yet. Not sure if you even can. I doubt it. It is open world though. I'm having a pretty good time with playing it. Its a different kind of zombies than I'm used to. I never played Dead Island so I don't know how much different it is than that game.

Also, Question for the group:

What does activating a light trap even do? I don't think I ever had any luck with them myself, maybe I'm not using them properly.

Flares? Are they like the firecrackers and zombies flock to them when you throw them? Only useful at night or in dark areas (tunnels)?

Same here, I've only used those traps once and it was that electric one at the Tower entrance.

It creates a temporary safe area.

As far as vehicles. there is none. No fast travel either, you gotta run around to get around the map.

Light traps are just a distraction. If there are zombies around the light area and you activate one they will head towards and it will keep them occupied temporarily. They're like the firecrackers. I've been using them to distract hordes so that I can lock pick the back of the emergency vehicles

Flares are temporary safe areas. Throw one and stand next to the light and the volatiles stay away. I use them at night when I'm in a jam.

Edit:

Question for everyone

I see videos of people snapping zombies necks? How do you do that?

There's one mission where a group of enemies drive up in a truck, I was so stoked and thought I would get to drive it(as it was the first and only functional ground vehicle I'd seen in the game), but it was just ignored :(

To do the neck snapping thing you have to get the "takedown" perk(I think that's the one). The perk description mentions silently killing from behind.

As for my skill progress, I'm at level 24 power(max), level 22(I think) agility and level 24 survivor(one level away from max and being able to buy a premium katana). This game is addicting.

Night gameplay is truly f*cking intense! I hid in a train cart while trying to find some ingredients for a survivor... I was sorrounded by 3 of those night zombies... the ones that f*ck you the hell up... Ive managed to stay undetected throughout the night (around 20 mins i think) pretty cool! really intense stuff, aspecually during night gameplay

i suggest you at least rent it to try it out, it's worth it!

I thought it would be fun one night to go out trolling and killing the "nightmares" when I was at a lower level

Grabbed my strongest weapon and went out, They are not only fast and agile, they are a bitch to kill. I didn't kill any

Took out some flares and did some sneaking around but as soon as I engaged one they swarmed me, they're like raptors lol

Ran around and hid and made my way back to a safe house

It's funny how the gre likes to troll you with air drops though lol. Hiding from these f*ckers and all of a sudden an air drop shows up that is not that far away but in the direction that you're not going

All I know is you get some serious xp for surviving the night and not being spotted by them also if you don't return to a safe house during the night this will also help the xp gain. Not to mention your stats get an xp boost aswell during night time gameplay. My friend also said that if you do side missions at night you also get extra xp but I myself haven't confirmed that.

looks like a rent for 1 playthrough

Have to agree with this. I had a great experience but after beating the very short story, I've become quite bored of it. I still have tons of side missions to do but those aren't all that fun so when I play I normally just go into a couple of matches of Be The Zombie.

My friend got this before release and I've been over at his place. The controls seem quite intuitive and free running is truly free. Lip-syncing on non-cutscene characters is not very impressive, and the AI can be buggy at times. Fantastic-looking game, though. As has been said before, the night gameplay really is intense.

My friend and I share the opinion that the pause menu/inventory can be very confusing and difficult to navigate initially.

In short, it looks brilliant so far. I haven't seen too much story gameplay and progression, but I'm a fan as of now.

For me their corpses always give around $130, about the same as the goons(big zombies with heavy rebar clubs). Speaking of goons, once you get a weapon with over 300 damage(or even 2 less powerful ones) the melee throw perk that lets you throw your weapon works wonders. You can take them out without ever being in danger of being hit by their attacks.

Is there teleportation in this game? If so how can I activate it?

I'm playing the PC version, and I'm not ashamed to say that I used some cheat modes to max out all the skills before I got into the game :D

However, the teleportation mod doesn't work and keeps causing the game to crash!

If you're talking about fast travel, other then going to a different map, there is none. I like it though, parkour all over the city lol. Unlocked the roll perk too so i can jump from higher places without losing my health

And yeah I been using the melee throw perk to get rid of the goons now. Was using the explosive stars for a while but the blasts attract a lot of the sprinters

Thanks! There is no point then of activating safe zones if you can't teleport to them

I activate all of them. Need a place to run to before it gets dark if I don't feel like sneaking around all night.

Also some of them have merchants that you can sell or buy sh*t from if your inventory is getting full or if you want stronger weapons. I also like to use the closest safe house to night mission starting points and sleep until night, that way I don't have to travel far in the dark. I can't be running back and forth to one safe house lol

If you die you'll respawn at the nearest safe zone. If your only safe zone is 20 miles from where you want to be you'll respawn all the way back and have to run the whole distance again. Consider the safe zones as checkpoints while travelling around the city. Also, like That Guy Is Here said, they're great for night missions. Simply sleep til night in the nearest safehouse to the mission checkpoint and you don't have to run as far at night, and also have a quick place to get away to if you get overwhelmed.

I just don't know about this game.. it's so good it's almost too good, at least from what I've seen on trailers. After dark.. man that's so intense looking that it's way too intense looking, literally looks like you'll be sh*tting yourself and risking yourself with every inch you sneak.

Probably wish there were more interiors you could use as assets. Obviously zombies should still spawn in these interiors/be able to get into them, but for the whole aspect of a survival it'd be pretty good for those who would struggle with the intensity of nighttime shenanigans to be able to maybe hide out a night in an abandoned pharmacy/24/7 store or something like that.

Thoughts?

There's a couple of safe zones not bathed in blue light in the game, but it's very possible on Old Town to hunker down in a pharmacy or storefront. Alot of the storefronts there have a broken down entrance, but a door you can close in the back.

I remember I was looking for something in an area when it got dark and I promptly ran into a nearby store to take quick shelter from volatiles with a few flares.

It's too bad everyone online is interested in completing quests and or duping. I only come online to screw around, as I completed so much bu myself in the first few days.

Night time is pretty intense. Even once you have weapons that can 1 or 2 hit kill the Volatiles, doing so just lures more in so you're constantly being swarmed and will still be dead in no time if you stay in one place. You can, however, enter a building and if the doors are closable the zombies can't get in. At least none of the daytime zombies can, I've never tried it at night. Also, it's a lot easier to sneak around at night in Old Town as all the rooftops are much higher and the volatiles tend to spawn on the ground and rarely climb tall buildings unless they notice a sound or see you up there. The slums are a different story since there are very few tall structures so you're always fairly close to the ground in easy spotting distance of volatiles.

You can add me if you're on PS4(as can anyone else who reads this) but I haven't tried this game online yet so I have no idea if my crap internet will even let me play online. It's worth a try though, I couldn't care less about duping and am completely up for screwing around, role playing or whatever. My PSN ID is ChevyBlazerK54x4(kinda long name but it was being a dick and not letting me select anything shorter for some reason).

What is the game like online?

Like I said, I haven't played online. But I know there's coop, which I assume is normal gameplay, but with other people. Then there's "be the zombie" mode which, from what I understand, is a competitive thing where one team consists of survivors and the other team consists of one night hunter zombie(basically a volatile on steriods) trying to kill the survivor team. I don't know much more about it though.

I have over 13 hours in game. I'm only 15% through the story. Why? How? Do all side missions first. It will make your character have better skills for the story missions too. You can do collectables as well. Save that story for the end. It makes your game last a lot longer and it seems like I enjoy them more. Not only this game either. Far Cry 4 same way. Plus I only play 1 to 2 hours a day on a game. Enjoy the game like cup of coffee. Slowly. Seems like you just get more satisfaction out of it.

Most my uncompleted side missions I have in my quest log are night missions

I can screw around at night some times but something with an objective and I panic lol

I still have that quest where you have to turn on the north and south substations and activate the trap for the volatiles, think that was one of the first side missions I got

For that one you need to activate 3 stations(2 substations and the main station) but you can do the 2 substations during the day, you only need to do the main station at night. That's what I did cause I was deathly afraid of being out at night at the time I did that quest.

I think this is the best way to play the game. There is some SERIOUS parkour in the final mission, so unless you practise and do side quests etc , you'd be stuck in that mission for long time!

I've learnt this the hard way, I rushed to the end without doing side missions and practising free running. God knows how many time I failed :D

^I actually consider myself pretty good at the parkour in this game but I failed that last mission scene at least 30 times, I was getting so pissed off. the last bit with all the pipes you have to jump up kept f*cking me over because it didn't want to jump from one to the other when I told it to, instead it just jumped to the first one and ran right off off it instead of jumping despite me telling the guy to jump.
