IV's cars compared to V's

I know we've all seen the cars and other vehicles from V on the trailers and screenshots already , but when I was playing gta 4 a little earlier I was zooming in close on the brake lights and other parts of the cars, and the textures are just so freaking detailed, especially for 2008 graphics. Even little words on the some of the cars, like car names on the back of cars, are just so detailed when zooming in with a sniper looking at them. So I wonder how detailed these cars will be in-game on V, because we've only seen trailers and stuff, not in game footage. I'm also curious about the reflections on the cars, and how good it will look

OT: Many demo's have said that R* have done TONS of detail, so it will include vehicles as well...

It's important not to expect too much. It's an open world game and as for these little details, I think we can obviously tell the vehicle graphics have improved, but its not going to be chalk and cheese different.

Be realistic with expectations, it's what a lot of people forget.

Car detail probably didn't improve much, and let's face it, it doesn't need to, since IV's vehicles were already good looking.

The big change here is the lightning and reflections, both are very improved, and that will change dramatically the look of the vehicles, as can be seen in the screenshots.

Exactly.

Textures can't get much higher or more complex in this generation of consoles due to RAM. The improved lighting is really what is making this game seem so much better than before.

Obviously animations can be improved, and we already got a taste of that from RDR and to an extent MP3

Added together yeah, a good improvement overall.

I agree, the car textures are great, and reflections do like like they've been improveduser posted image

GTA IV cars where fine.

The only thing I'd like to see improved is the damage done to cars.

They will probably reuse a lot of vehicles from IV (with some minor changes in details such as headlights etc) and seeing from the screenshots, if you pay close attention you can see there is about the same amount of detail and polygons on cars (look at the area around tires, that's the easiest place to notice).

So I don't expect more details on the cars and to be honest, they aren't necessary anyway, IV was great in that regard. What does seem to have improved is lighting and reflections, but we'll have to see what they really look like in the game, as I don't think they can look as good as they do in the screenshots.

I've never had a problem with how cars looked in IV but compared to V's car they look so ...flat, I mean it looks like it has a matte finish. I really hope they don't remove the glossy/reflective finish for V. IV's cars were supposed to have reflections.

That being said, cars aren't hard to make look good in games. They use less textures than a human/building/road would need.

Don't worry about how good the cars look. They will look great smile.gif

There's also gonna be realistic license plates, with random letters and numbers which is an improvement

Yeah, IV cars just had the same plate on every car.

Also, we can buy custom plates in V!

Yeah, I guess on the first day there will be a thread in these forums "show your custom license plate"

I expect lots of "B1GD1CK" plates and stuff like that wink.gif

It's not bad, but the way it deforms is ugly, if you look at it in slow motion, the processor takes a delay of approx. 3.5 milliseconds to render damage, if only it was instantly and with more particles.

That is incorrect.

I always thought the cars in San Andreas had really ugly "reflections".

They looked like they were made of wax!

The reflections of V are the best reflections i have ever seen. It looks like a little bit NFS Carbon's reflections, but more advanced. Also V contains chrome rims. It looks like awesome.

I personally thought the damage to cars in IV was really well done. I wouldn't say it needs more improvement in that respect.

Cars look much much better and more life like now. Compare the cars like the F620 etc in the screenshots. You can see the extra details and effects.

Grand Theft Auto: V's vehicles are crisp, slick, gorgeous, and their reflections will emulate mirrors capturing the essence of Los Santos. smile.gif

It can be a recently made car, as this is the first time we seen that car, so it's still WIP possibly.

The vehicles looked very good in GTA IV, especially if you consider that the game was released in 2008 and that it's in the openworld genre! From what we have seen so far in the screenshots and trailers, I would say the quality of GTAV's vehicles equals the ones of Midnight Club: Los Angeles, which is a semi-openworld racing title. That is very good for a title of such a scale and I wouldn't even have expected that, back when GTAV was announced.

I've noticed that some cars has got very good details, some not. For example in Trevor trailer you can see Banshee built of Lego bricks.

It will look stunning.

About the car damage. i wish they've done something so that you can lose wheels, for exampe u crash sideways onto a curb or something you may lose a wheel(s). Or if you hit a really big pothole, that would be really cool to see. Maybe such damage that u can't drive any further and need it to be towed to the shop.

And i hope they improved the cars exploding cause in iv i thought it was kinda lame looking
