AKalashnikov
Easier to judge the height of buildings, or if that alley you want to escape down really is an alley. Maybe like this.

blowtorchrepair
it could also mean that vertical relief will be displayed in some way, elevation contours (like the blueprint map shows) or shading, which would be helpful when flying in coastal fog... that's my guess... ed72o
looks not easy to use, I perfer the old one.. yes Yes. I'd rather not take any chances because the minimap is an important part of GTA, and ruining it wouldn't be very good. I would prefer R* release the actual minimap just in case it's as bad as we think it is so they can change it before the game is released

Show some faith.

Scampi
From listening to the May 2 CVG preview I got the impression it would be pretty simple still, just like a real life GPS. The only "3d" part is that it's angled slightly so you can see more of the stuff ahead of you. I'm fine with that because I bought a Garmin last year and have grown really accustomed to it. It'd be a natural adjustment to me to use it in-game. I just hope it lists street names so I know what's coming up. Sometimes the way the names popped up in IV was a little confusing what street exactly it was referring to.

gtamann123
It just means that when you are in a vehicle the radar changes to a view similar to a GPS device in a real car. Just adding a little bit more realism.
Lock n' Stock
Hopefully Rockstar will let us switch between the new and classic radar styles, that would please everyone. To answer your question OP, this Watch Dogs screenshot should give you an idea of what the radar in GTA V will be like.
IDredMan
Or the buildings will be 2D and have a slight 3D effect. Like the top-down GTAs.

brian.
I know right, Foley? I always make fun of minimaps in other games. Always like how ROckstar kept it simple and traditional, that while the worlds and detail levels evolved, the CORE GAME stayed the same. Now the CORE GAME has changed so heavily in every way, it almost feels like this should be a new IP. Sure, it's GTA, but it's not "GTA". If that makes sense. Changed way too much. "Oh, we think a yearly or bi yearly GTA would go stale" - okay, Zelnick, well, you at Take 2 and Rockstar are about to learn that 5 years is way too effing much time with too much iteration to even feel like a sequel. Feels more like a reboot that could just be called "grand theft auto" - it took too long, changed too much - it's a reboot, not a sequel.
