It obviously affected people so much that the PATRIOT ACT was enacted into law a week later, and I mean Osama Bin Laden is dead for Christ's sakes. I want my privacy back, we'll live with the threat of being attacked. Sarah Palin is the dictionary definition of an idiot.

But then again, if he really was dead, why is Obama supporting PRISM? How do we even know he existed in the first place? The government makes up all sorts of lies for money and power. We don't know for a fact if Osama is real, we've never seen him have we? And don't tell me about his video's.

I still remember reading about how the Palestinians were dancing in the streets after it happened.

And you immediately believed it...? dozingoff.gif

Believe it? I saw it, footage of them in celebration burning American flags. I bet a lot anti-American people were happy that day, and there's plenty of them.

Now that's not a conspiracy theory I've heard before. The notion that Bin Laden never actually existed is stupendously ignorant. You are aware that he comes from a very affluent Saudi Arabian family with close links to the royals, and has an extensive history of ventures, activities and criminal convictions in a number of Middle Eastern and Gulf states? I mean, by the idiocy of that logic you might as well claim the entire Bin Laden family doesn't exist.

Piggsy pls

Despite living in New York, I never cared much about it, probably because I was to young.

Also, most people who make fun of 9/11 just seem to hate America in general.

I honestly didn't give a sh*t when it happened because I was only 9 and didn't even know what the TWC was. So it never really bothered me like it did millions of other people. Ironically, I was into the whole Alex Jones/Zeitgeist 9/11 conspiracy movement for a couple of years, but then I realized I had no f*cking clue what they were talking about so I quit listening to them.

Yeah I remember that too. They actually showed it to us in school. I hate how Americans are expected to turn the other cheek when people in other countries celebrate the death of innocent civilians and burn our flag. But then when some idiot in Florida burns the Qu'ran (as protected under the Bill of Rights), the whole world goes into an uproar over insensitivity. Goddamned hypocrites.

I live in South New Jersey. My father was in the ambulance corp and the governor of New York was calling for a lot of ambulances. My towns corps (and my fire station almost got called in) got called in. All the rigs were to meet at the local mall to head over to New York as an entire strike team. My dad missed the ambulance when the page went out. When my towns rig left, a few minutes away from the rendezvous, they got hit by a tractor trailer. Severely hurting 2 of the EMTs on board.

Yes, it is still fresh in my mind, and I will never forget the sacrifice the 343 and dozen more firemen that died on that day, and the following decade. I am glad that my dad was not on that ambulance.

I also had my cousin there on vacation. A police vacation and he got called in to help out. My uncle was down there, just a few blocks away underwater welding when he heard it blow. It was not a pretty site.

I don't think about it anymore but if I ever run into the video footages or walk around downtown and see the memorial spot in Manhattan then I start having flashbacks.

When i watch videos on Youtube i find it hard to not feel emotion. Just watching people willingly jump from the top floors, just imagine how bad the conditions were inside the building if jumping from that high was a better alternative. Just imagining being in there that day should be enough to scare the sh*t out of anyone.

Has anyone ever seen the video, when the police operator is on the phone to a guy trapped on the upper levels when the whole building collapses? It's harrowing.

The video is here, for those interested.

f*ck that's so f*cking upsetting. :'(

Yes.

I don't expect people from outside the US to necessarily feel the same because human rights tragedies, genocide, terrorism, poor living conditions and natural disasters have claimed the lives of thousands over the last decade all over the world but this event, Sandy Hook and the huge earthquakes in Haiti a few years back probably weigh in as the top 3 things that personally brought tears to my eyes while reviewing the footage. I don't joke or make light of them in any instance those who choose to are free to do so of course but I'll not entertain it.

Resource conflicts are conceptually flawed because they fail to take into account the material costs of war on the government and people. The cost of any prolonged conflict will almost always be higher for all directly concerned parties than any measurable economic gains they may make from it. "Ah", I hear you ask, "but what about the military-industrial complex- surely the defence sphere profited from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan?" In the short term, yes. But the knock-on results of fighting counter-insurgency-style conflict devalued technological investment (COIN isn't about money or equipment, it's about human terrain analysis and sociology); combined with the economic hardships contributed to by prolonged costly conflict and the knock-on reduction in demand for defence products and services created by a streamlining of the armed forces due to budget constraints and changes in the strategic landscape, the defence economy as a whole has been severely negatively affected. At best, it's a zero-sum-game. At worst, many organisations have lost out significantly.

While the war itself might be a zero or negative sum game if viewed as a resource war, it has strategic value to the overall campaign (ie, America's quest to subjugate the Middle East) which is indeed a positive sum resource conflict.

It's also worth noting that the wars were poorly managed and weren't intended to go on this long. While the defense industry may be being negative affected, it wasn't necessarily foreseen. What's more, they may not even be worse off in the long term, having two neo-colonies to buy arms off them in the future.

What still disturbs me is that a "free" nation's Government would do such a thing, and almost 12 years later the people still think it wasn't the Government. It's obvious, it's right in front of you; the evidence is in the collapse. If you don't understand what I mean, you likely didn't listen or take physics.

Excuse my whilst I laugh in your face. There isn't a single credible structural engineer or physicist in the world who supports the controlled demolition theory. I do love the irony of implying that people who don't believe in the controlled demolition theories must have inferior knowledge of physics, and I relish at every opportunity to make deluded conspiracy nuts with an infantile grasp of physics, international relations and history, not to mention absurd paranoid delusions about the state of modern society wince, so please, go on.

What disturbs me is the fact that you believe this 'conspiracy' crap even though every one of them has been thoroughly disproven. This thread is for discussing if 9/11 still affects you, not for dragging this kind of sh*t up.

Actually there is more evidence pointing to the Government being the culprit than the story that was told. Again, you likely didn't take physics. Building don't fall like that when the tip collapses, it falls over... not straight down. Also, ever heard of WTC7? In a interview with the NYC mayor he said they had to "plug" the building. Demolition term to take it down. Demolitions take weeks to setup.. not a few hours.

Do the research.

Do the research.

First of all, the NYC mayor didn't say that, it was the WTC's owner, Larry Silverstein. Secondly, he wasn't referring to the building, he was ordering the last remaining contingent of firefighters remaining in the building to abandon their rescue efforts and evacuate, so as to not lose any more men.

Get your facts straight before you post.

9/11 gets to me so much as far as the amount of people that died in that event. Whether it be the government that caused it or actual terrorism. Either way, it's an event that will live with us for quite some time.. some still mourn, some moved on and some never will.

The physics of how the building fell?

BBC reported WTC7 collapsing 20 minutes before it actually did?

All the same crap from a corrupt Government. They killed Kennedy, lied about the Star Wars Program, Planned to bomb US planes and blame Cubans, same crap. Just takes a Conservative to make it happen.

I was ten at that time. People might consider that age to be too young to understand what was going on. I lived just across the river from Manhattan (NYC). So I remember that tragedy very clearly. Fortunately, my dad's office was located at a different area of Manhattan. The towers were icons of that city. Those were huge towers and were able to be seen far away from the city. It's hard to notice when just looking at those on television. I went to those towers a few times so I knew how huge they were and that they contained a huge mass of people.

No there isn't.

There isn't a single aspect of the conspiracy theory that isn't fundamentally, logically, or technically flawed. The evidence has been presented, discussed, rebutted and ridiculed by innumerate far more knowledgeable people than any conspiracy theorist could even dream of. Your continual assistance that "my physics are right!" is deeply ironic seen as no noteworthy structural engineer or physicist has supported the conspiracy theory. In essence, you are arguing that every structural engineer and physicist in the world is wrong, and that you are right. I would, therefore, like to see some evidence of your prior credibility and technical expertise which enable you to make these judgements, and a full and frank explanation, complete with scientific evidence, of why you are empirically right and the rest of the civilised world is wrong.

I'm still pissed that they didn't show The Simpsons on TV for weeks because they couldn't stop running news about it.

What's more important? A stupid TV show series or one of the worst disasters to have struck humanity?

I'd rather laugh than listen to weeks of speculation as to why dem planes go boom.

I'll take The Simpsons.

Me too.

f*cking government destroying buildings and peoples lives for their own personal gain.

I was 10 at the time and live thousands of kilometers away. at the time I was more annoyed at 24-7 coverage of the incident. I knew it was a bad situation, but was too young and isolated from the United States to be overly worried about it.

I seriously cant believe some of the replies to this thread. Whether your from The US or not, whether you were 3 years old or 50, it was a terrible even that affected ALOT of people. To this day I cant look at the new york skyline without thinking about it. When I see videos or images from the event I get kind of choked up. I watched Man of Steel today and certain scenes really moved me because they reminded me of the chaos of 9/11.

Pretending to not care now or ever doesnt make you cool. It makes you an ass. And if you never cared and still dont, then I hope we never meet. I wouldnt want such a person in my life.

Nope, it really has no effect on me anymore. The effect was minimal in the first place, though, since I was young when it happened.

Same here. I dont know anyone who was a victim or related to one so having empathy for 911 doesnt come naturally. Its a tragedy, sure, but it didnt affect me in a derect manner to where i could relate.

In the past few years, the only tragedy that still gets to me and probably always will is that one school shooting in connecticut where 20some 5year olds got shot and killed senselessly. Now that i have a child of my own, the fear of losing my daughter to a psycho like that tears me apart inside.

But as for 911, i was too young to really comprehend what happened to truly feel affected by it.

Edit: and fcuk all you conspiracy nuts in denial. There are many countries who hate america, it is 100% possible that a foreign terrorist group did it. Egotistical bastards.

9/11 is really blown way out of proportion. The only reason why it's talked about over and over is that it was a terrorist attack(or so they claim) in the United States. Every month there are tragedies where a lot more people get killed. It's about time to get over it.
