zombie elvis
The tallest mountain in mainland U.S. is Mount Whitney, in California. It's named after... Josiah Whitney. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josiah_Whitney From previews, we know one of the Mountains is called Josiah. So when we've been calling the tallest mountain Chiliad, it makes sense for the tallest mountain in the game to be called Mt. Josiah, and the mountain to be based off the mountains in the Sierra Crest. Edited June 6, 2013 by zombie elvis

zombie elvis
The only catch is technically it's not in Southern California, but it's not far north of there.
Lil_B_The Basedgod
There is more than one mountain. There is mount Josiah, mount chilidad, and possibly another mountain.
Emergency_Room
Good observation and it kind of brings back something from the first trailer. The first time I seen the hikers I thought it may be somewhere in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park and honestly I have never really though otherwise. Certainly there are trees there which appear to be Sequoias and also it kind of reminds me of Kings Canyon a bit. Mount Whitney just happens to be in Sequoia National Park. I am wondering if the hikers are looking at Mr. Josiah.
ChatterBoxFM
didnt they say "chiliad" was now a mountain range instead of a single mt? mt. josiah is probably the tallest mt in the chiliad mountain range Edited June 6, 2013 by ChatterBoxFM
Miami-Florida.
mt. josiah is probably the tallest mt in the chiliad mountain range I Think so too.
saintsrow
Good observation. The hiking scene in GTAV Trailer #1 looked like the high Sierras as well. That would go with the idea of re-imagining that kind of environment slightly displaced from central Calif to the GATV map. I hope it means there are some snow-capped mountains and tall Sequoia pine forests(kind of like Tall Trees in RDR).

That means we might get one of these: The valley between the two mountains looks like it could be based on one of those canyons up there too. didnt they say "chiliad" was now a mountain range instead of a single mt? mt. josiah is probably the tallest mt in the chiliad mountain range That could be the case yeah. vivalavendredi
That means we might get one of these: Ha, would love to see that! This region was in an old arcade game (don't remember which one) I've played as a kid. In the old days I didn't know that this exists in real life too

There was a tunnel through a standing one but it's fallen over apparently. http://www.nps.gov/seki/faqtunnel.htm Edited June 6, 2013 by zombie elvis
