TheGodDamnMaster
I have faith that R* will buy the reviews to get perfect scores so that it can compete with The Last of Us. Besides, the best-scoring game doesn't always get GOTY awards. IGN gave Fallout 3 GOTY 2008 over GTA IV and it had a lower score. Are you serious? 1. Is it possible to "buy" review scores? There's a allot of conspiracies going about as soon as a game gets a very low or every high score, that doesn't mean somebody "bought" it. 2. R* doesn't need to do anything, and GTA V will sell like hotcakes, even if gets a general score of 8. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=495020 Plus there were e-mails leaked around RDR's release about R* making sure the reviewers "appreciate" the world. Not to mention the massive divide between critic and user reviews for GTA IV. I never said anything about sales. Not to mention the massive divide between critic and user reviews for GTA IV. I never said anything about sales. Honestly, every game that gets good scores also has a big divide between reviewer and user scores. I honestly think that IV was judged pretty well, the thing you need to remember is that they reviewed the game for what it had, not what it lacked when you compare it to SA (something the vast majority of fans did). Except for the mission variety, there's nothing really objectively wrong with it. Now some games really do get high marks, but the reviewers aren't payed directly to give them good scores. More like, they are payed to advertise the games on their websites. If they give the game a bad score, they won't get payed anymore. It's pretty simple, and would explain why so many junk games get good marks.

Official General
The Last of Us is getting 10/10s and 5*s left right and centre, and it's looking like it might be GTA V's biggest contender for game of the year. In my opinion, a game with less than 20 hours of content (I saw somewhere it's about 15 hours long) with linear missions should never be 10/10 nowadays, but hey, I haven't played it yet. Who gives a sh*t? Well, I don't. Also just because this game is linear and only got 15-20 hours of storyline it doesn't deserve a 10/10? Not every game has to be like GTA. It's a totally different genre and they got their own rating system or whatever. Worry not, GTA V will get stellar ratings. And this time hopefully also fully deserved unlike with IV (it was a little too overrated in my opinion). Even Bioshock Infinite was kinda overrated which still was a great game, a masterpiece in storytelling but not that great in gameplay. @ Freezer89 I agree with everything you have said here I could not care less about what scores other games get, how great they are touted to be, or much copies they sell. If GTA V lives up to it very great expectations (which I believe it will based on what I see so far), then I have every reason to believe that GTA V will be a huge, smashing success in it's own right. No matter how great other games are, there is always gonna be that massive anticipation from GTA's very own private army of huge masses of fans. And as for The Last Of Us, I just might get that game for my PS3 if it's that good. It's Naughty Dog, they made the legendary Uncharted series after all. If you're talking about the Spike TV awards you shouldn't expet better I don't know, afterall, they did have the good sense to award GOTY to San Andreas, IV, and RDR. I just can't believe Max Payne 3 didn't pick up a single award last year. That game was beyond epic in both gameplay, and story. Not to mention the incredible voice acting. tenpennyisplainevil
R* got GOTY with RDR (deserved 100%), so it's almost a no-brainer that V will do the same. I mean, RD is simply put the unpopular little brother of GTA. As for LoU and W_D, I predict that WD will be an AC copy in a different setting and LoU to be an Uncharted clone (with great improvements though). I'd say, WD flops due to the obvious AC clone it is (with AC3 graphics on next gen...), LoU has a fair chance due to it being a heavily (?) improved Uncharted, and V should have the biggest chance of all, but it's not a given that they'll win. Also, we'll have to see how next gen will affect the outcome.

I guess they would've been acused of kissing Rockstar"s Ass, or something, and maybe they wanted to look good by putting the walking dead at the top. But remember thse are the ones that give so many awards to COD, their choices are based on what is more benefitial to their P.R than the actual games Random top 10s on youtube are better than that Huge Advert' Galore
twistedweather
its hard not be biased when my favorite genre of game is open-world still I am really excited for The Last of Us Linear games that are imo epic, I end up keeping to replay for the story and gameplay. Don't really pay attention to the GOTY awards until they are out, then I ook for them used to play, possibly by. Did end up picking up the Red Dead GOYE which is fantastic. d3ex2
They are two totally different games. Last of Us (Naughty Dog) 1) linear 2) short story 3) ps3 only GTA V (Rockstar) 1) open world 2) long story 3 multiplatform Both will be great games because they are made by great developers. I think Naughty Dog deserve all the top reviews they get. I'm really excited for Last of Us. I wouldn't mind GTA V losing out to it tbh. I'm excited for both games. I can't wait to play them both. GTAfan786
TLOU is undoubtedly a GOTY hands down. I'd definitely say its the BEST exclusive we have on the PS3.
GTAaLEX117
It's clear by now that reviewers nowadays are heavily biased towards games that focus strongly on story. That explains the insane ratings Bioshock Infinite had, a typical run-of-the-mill FPS but with great story/mythos execution. Most reviewers just jump on the praise bandwagon, or tend to review games based on the most basic impressions and vibes they get. Gameplay mechanics, graphics, details and work put into more technical stuff gets thrown to the side. That's why reviews dont really matter. Gamers know quality when they see it. Remember the old days when video games hardly had storylines? The gamelay was all that mattered and they definitely started to perfect it, all in their own way. Now I just feel that the emphasis on storytelling, "immersion" and "uber [email protected]" have started to impact the gameplay quite heavily. And I personally dislike that, I think that's what movies are for.
ReconzVenture
Thr Last of Us WILL be Game of the Year.GTA 5 needs to be pretty damn good. I agree with this statement GTA won't get Goty cause IV left a bad taste in a lot of people mouths and there waiting to retaliate on whats next. Gta IV won numerous game of the year awards. Like, about 12. It seriously didn't leave a bad taste in anyone's mouths, especially not critics. I see GTA V doing exceptionally well. Will it win goty over the last of us? It'll be very close
Durden
The Last of Us is a great game in my eyes - nothing more. GTAV, however, is much more meaningful than a mere game. Every GTA is an experience that constantly re-defines how we look at video games as a whole. TLoU will only act as a filler to keep me busy for a couple weeks. I truly don't care if TLoU wins GOTY, because for me GTAV will be GOTG and in the end, that's all that really matters.

This! People should stop bitchin to know who's gonna be better. If The Last of Us got these notes, maybe(and i say it again, MAYBE), it was deserved. But this game it's a storyline-driven linear game, not an sandbox open-world game. I don't care too much if it's going to get 95 or 85 or whatever note Metacritic puts on their site: Grand Theft Auto V will impress and probably become the greatest open-world game since RDR. Let's apreciate what these two games can make to give us a good time. Can't we all just get along? That's my opinion. wwinterj
Game of the year is all subjective and there are different categories. Overall though in my opinion GTA V will walk it providing it is what it seems to be. The Last of Us possibly will get a award but I think it's to early to call as there are a lot of big hitters out towards the end of the year. Looking forward to next week though when I can finally get my hands on The Last of Us.
