Liberty City is already big enough and modelled very nicely after New York. If Rockstar tried to remake it again, it would feel more or less the same as GTA 4. The difference between Liberty City 3 wouldn't be as huge as 1 and 2. I can see the next games being LV, SF, and VC. After that is anyone's guess.

Haha yeah good point. If they did go back to LC I'd love to see a more interactive version of the LC they offered us in the game. (Buildings, Culture, People in the street etc)

None of us knew with V either, I remember in 2010 we were arguing about whether it would be a new universe or not, I thought it would have been GTA IV; Vice City, and so did a large number of other members, most didn't think it would be called V.

 

V was supposed to be a new universe judging by the name, but it wasn't. R* are a bit unpredictable tbh. They'll move on to a new universe when they think it necessary, I think after V it will be a new universe considering how there will have been 6 storylines this generation, but who knows really.

The only way they would be able to signify a universe change would to be either remake LC, LS or base the next GTA in the real world, which I doubt they'll do. Anyway, there's still heaps they can do with the HD universe.

I just wanted to highlight how foolish you are. Saying "People are not that hyped like back in the days" is really stretching it. Where do you live? I know the game hasn't been announced for potato yet. Expect this game to be the highest grossing of the franchise. You are saying that the series ends here because you don't "know anybody that actually cares".

 

But this is bigger than you. It's not about your mom and dad. Ask yourself... "What is popular amongst gamers?" one of the answers you'll find is GTA.

 

That and it's a cashcow for everyone involved. You'll see another one probably in 4-5 years

I have to agree though. I don't think Vice would be as good as before when it was based in the 80's. I'd like to see a new city introduced myself, see R* take another risk, right now even though it will be amazing Los Santos is a safe bet considering it was there rise to fame.

And to join the OT: I believe they don't have to restart the universe thing as there won't bee too much difference between next and current gen. Of course it will all become bigger but think about it, the graphics won't jump as much as it did back then and they can easily reuse resources they already have with slight additions thus making their job easier and staying in the same universe.

Officialy the Eras are between numbered games. The 1 era was 1 and the London DLC, 2 was 2, 3 was 3, VC, SA LCS, VCS 4 was 4 EFLC and CTW and 5 will be 5 and whatever other GTAs (not numbered) come out during then.

I wanna see a new city added in this universe to be honest. I know I seem like I'm whining saying it but I want a new unique city that we haven't ever visited before, unless it was London. That being said by the time that could happen they'd easily be able to make it the size of the United Kingdom and add places like Manchester and Old Trafford and what not, f*cking some beautiful UK accents too... oh god that'd be my new life.

I don't know whether they'd go back to Vice City in the 80's, they did it once (twice really) and completely aced it to the point it shouldn't be reconstructed even in a new universe because it'd take away that pop fame the original developed.

This,also there is other cities like Chicago or New Orleans so they dont have to repeat NY and LA for some time. And i wouldn't mind if in let's say 2017 in GTA 6 in Vice City we saw Brucie and his brother sparing on the beach or Tracy and Jimmy hang out with their company.
