I know that the 3D and HD universes differ, and that next gen most likely will also be HD, but what will R* do when and if they make a GTA VI? If it looks nothing like V, then it will be a bit of a stretch to say they are part of the same universe. I believe it will be part of the HD universe. Since the jump to the next generation consoles doesn't seem to be as steep as it was with the last generation I presume that no. Besides, the whole "Universe" nonsense is pretty much an excuse to cut ties with the older games chronology and starting fresh, rather than a real choice for the storytelling. It's just something they mention every once in a while when asked about recurring characters. As to what constitutes a GTA "universe", the rules are vague, but it's mostly about technology. Which leaves me thinking will the current universe we have now end on September 17th or keep on going, needless to say, it's no where as big as the 3D universe got. Expect this game to be the highest grossing of the franchise. You are saying that the series ends here because you don't "know anybody that actually cares". But this is bigger than you. It's not about your mom and dad. Ask yourself... "What is popular amongst gamers?" one of the answers you'll find is GTA. That and it's a cashcow for everyone involved. ALeSsAnDrO Posted June 5, 2013 Share Posted June 5, 2013 There's a couple of factors that will contribute for GTA V to be R*'s biggest hit yet: - current gen install base is a lot bigger since 2008; - next gen so far is disappointing (coupled with the xbox disaster); sales might be lackluster; - the game itself seems to surpass its predecessor in pretty much everything; - since IV, games like RDR and MP3 contributed to cement R*'s reputation as top dog. I dont really get why some people say there's less interest in GTA, to me it seems exactly the opposite. It grew from an almost unknown title to one of the most important in the industry. Why don't you think they would? Liberty City is already big enough and modelled very nicely after New York. If Rockstar tried to remake it again, it would feel more or less the same as GTA 4. The difference between Liberty City 3 wouldn't be as huge as 1 and 2. I can see the next games being LV, SF, and VC. After that is anyone's guess.
