How long until Pre-order/SE/CE content becomes DLC

At the outrageous price they're charging for the Collector's Edition I'd be surprised if that content ever becomes available as dlc. Even though I think people who buy it are suckers, it would be very unfair of Rockstar to sell that stuff as dlc after those people forked out so much money for it. Let's be honest, nobody's buying it for the hat are they. When you pay that much money exclusive should mean exclusive.

That's true. The only thing I want is the Classic Characters pack. Everything else should be for the Collector's/Special Editions only. I think it's unfiar that the only way to obtain it is through the CE. Some of us can't afford that sh*t.

What if the person can't afford the SE/CE at the time? What if their store has simply ran out of SE/CE? What if they can't get any stock in local stores for the SE/CE?

 

It's digital content, it's ALREADY ON THE GAME, it's just awaiting an unlock code, why would you want to stop people from getting access to it? Especially when they could buy a Pass for the game giving Rockstar MORE money for the game.

 

There is nothing special or unique about Digital Content, physical stuff, yeah, I agree, that should only be reserved for the SE and CE because that stuff has to be made and packaged and sent out, etc, but digital content? No, it's just an unlock code, that's all, which can be generated thousands upon thousands of times over by Rockstar.

sure, the blimp will be DLC and also the bonus clothing. the weapons also. but i doubt the CE custom characters and vehicles will be DLC.

The thing is, stuff like this aren't usually included in a season pass. The consuls car for L.A Noire was not included in the season pass. I'm still pissed about that f*ck-up from R*. It was free to PS users - but only if you lived in the US.

It actually was, all pre-order AND Collectors Edition perks were available right away if you bought the Season Pass, they were instantly added to your game.

 

The Consults Car was an oversight, Rockstar did the pass based based on the Xbox 360 price point (which of course never had that case), so when it DID eventually come out on PS3, it was listed as DLC but outside of the pass (and even then it was suppose to be on Disc but a clause from Microsoft prevented that).

I would love the DLC content from the Collectors Edition but I cannot justify the price as I don't think £80 (£120-£40) is worth it. I do not care or want the tatty hat, bag, key or blueprint map therefore won't buy it. Even the LE seems a bit steep, what £20 for a few DLC items?

 

The only problem I see is that although I'm going to love the game and spend a lot of time playing it, exploring every side quest and part of the map, I WILL have finished it within 2 months by which time the DLC still won't be available. At that point I won't want to wait for the content to re-play the game just so I can use those items.

 

The same thing happened with Skyrim, I loved the game and spent well over 140 hours on it. After 2-3 months I had done everything I could in the game and when DLC was finally released I was on to my next game, so imo Bethesda lost a potential customer of their DLC.

 

 

An interesting article on IGN discussed the topic of next-gen used games and interviewed TakeTwo's CEO Strauss Zelnick:

 

“Let's make sure to give people DLC, often free, three or four weeks out; which is the time you're at risk for them trading in their game,” he continued. “If you can keep the game in consumer's hands for 8 weeks, you almost don't care anymore about used game sales because it's the first 8 weeks that really nail you.”

The DLC will only be a timed-exclusive and will most likely be released for everyone at a later date.

 

Happened with:

Red Dead Redemption DLC (including Limited Edition)

LA Noire DLC (including all pre-order bonus versions)

Max Payne 3 DLC (including pre-order bonuses)

 

& happens with most other Special/Collector's DLC on games.

It's called business and making money. If people want the DLC first then they pay the premium for that privilege.

 

I ordered the Collectors Edition and am happy.

I know that for at least a good few months after release, in the peak time for the game, the CE DLC will be exclusive.

Because I'm paying for a COLLECTORS edition NOT, I repeat, NOT a TIMED collectors edition. I payed a price that should equal exclusivity, especially considering its called a collectors edition. You get exclusive swag with these editions and that's what you're paying for so I'm not sure why you would be pissed or be under the illusion that you're entitled to exclusive in-game content. Then they need to tell me that. Right now, nowhere does it say the physical stuff is exclusive but the digital stuff is a timed exclusive. Do not put timed exclusive DLC in a limited collectors edition. That makes no logical sense. If its in a limited, collectors edition it should obviously be exclusive to that edition. Like I said, I'm paying for a COLLECTORS edition. I don't think when collectors are looking for things to collect, that they collect items that can be owned by EVERYONE else. That is stupid.
