About Car Customization

Well, hello guys we have been reading in the latest previews that car customization is back on this game and somewhere (I don't remember the source) they said that the customization of cars will be "on par with Midnight Club L.A" (paraphrased)

I have never played a Midnight Club game, how good was the customization on MCLA?

How detailed were the technical upgrades (as in how detailed were the engine upgrades, brakes, etc.)

Could you change stuff like tail lights, and apply body kits?

Do you think the car customization in GTA V will be this detailed?

Anyone who has played MCLA please tell us who haven't how detailed is the Customization!

UPDATE!

I have found some quotes about Car Customization, including the one I referred to in my OP:

Here's the GameInformer one:

Pimp Your Ride

The customization doesn't end with character progression. The Pay & Spray businesses that used to serve as a quick way to fix up your car and get a new paintjob are now full custom shops. Rockstar says players can tweak both performance and aesthetics at a level on par with Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

Under the hood, you can tune the engine, improve the suspension, buy new brakes, and make other tweaks to how the car handles. Trick your engine out too much and you can overtune it, so be careful.

If you'd rather focus on style over substance, concentrate on altering the paint job, wheels, window tinting, grill, and spoiler. You can even customize your license plate.

Destructoid:

GTA V has the largest selection of vehicles, from boats, cars, bikes, air vehicles and more. Cars can be completely customized from their outside appearance to even their handling and performance now at Los Santos Customs, the replacement to Pay N' Sprays.

    - Destructoid

Also I read this on GTAV.net:

Yes, the game will feature extensive vehicle customization, including, but most likely not limited to:

    Paint jobs

    Wheels

    Window tinting

    Grilles

    Spoilers

    Custom license plates

    Engine tuning

    Suspension

    Brakes

    ...and other handling tweaks.

So, what do you think?

I hope we get all these things, first thing I will do is get me a 9F (Audi R8) and change those crappy round taillights they applied on it

This is a quote from a experienced MCLA Player;

PERFORMANCE

exhaust system, headers, cold air intake, forced induction, engine upgrade, electrionics, nitrous, clutch, gear kits, sway bars, brakes, tires, jet kits, shocks & springs.

EXTERIOR/INTERIOR

front bumpers, hoods, intercoolers, window tint, wheel materials: paint and dimensions, tires, brakes, interior color, steering wheels, gauges, front seats, rear bumpers, spoilers, tail lights, exhaust, license plates, neon, sideskirts, doors, cowls, tails, tanks.

Obviously the colour of the car aswell!

Well, apparently it's on par with Midnight Club LA. I really want head and tail light customisation, like halos and HIDs. Don't know why but I love changing the lights.

I dont think the customization level will be anything near MCLA... I find this too good to be true...

All I want to be able to do is recreate these bad boys. And if it's on par with MC:LA I'll be able to do just that. biggrin.gif Well if they do indeed base a car off of the Supra, and I hope the Dukes is customizable in V.

But if it takes away from any other feature I could handle losing some car customization for a better wanted system or something important like that.

I hope the Elegy bakes a comeback!

This. That car was one of my favorites. Hopefully they make it look even more like a Skyline R-34 this time around. I mean there's over 600 cars in the game right? Why not bring back all the old cars such as the Elegy. The comeback of the Cheetah gives me home that all the old cars are coming back.

i think they learned a lot from their previous games the customization system in this one should be unique and well depicted of real life Los Angeles and their numerous car shops

600?! That sounds even more preposterous than the 460 vehicles promised one of thoses russian previews.

We may be looking at vehicle roster of around 275-325 vehicles tops.

WOW that sounds too good to be true!

I hope we get to do this though, it would not only be hours of fun for me but it is also a good way for players to use their cash.

Rockstar addressed the issue of all previous games of having too much cash and not being able to use it, and the fact that money became worthless in previous games. So maybe it will be possible to have many of these in the Los Santos Customs Shops!

Yeah my fault with the 600 lol, it just felt right but still that's a sh*tload compared to how many there were in past GTAs. Add that on with even more pedestrians (models and hopefully more on the street) and boom this game will be living and breathing if they can actually have the peds doing real life things like shopping and more lively things.

I really hope it's on that level. I also hope Motorbikes get the same treatment.

MCLA was my first racing game, I've been playing the franchise w/ my brother for years. MCLA offered the most complex customization system that I have ever seen, or heard of, in any racing game. Then again I don't really play racing games anymore, so I don't know. But that game had an intense level of customization - so much so, that I think they went a little overkill with the car customization.

So yeah, be happy. Or be one of those cynical auto-obsessed nutjobs that think MCLA's customization is petty.

GlitzyTomb

It's probably (all but definitely) not going to happen...

But wouldn't it be something if they put in something like Forza's custom paint jobs.

Even on a much smaller scale, putting on personally designed emblems would be amazing.

The only limit to how closely you could recreate actual cars would be finding the game vehicle with the closest body type and then developing your skills in the design system.

I'd try to turn a Ruiner into a 25th Anniversary Gold and Black Datsun 280zx

This is amazing!

I really hope we get car customization like this, but I don't think it will be possible to make it so detailed.

But lets hope it is at least similar to it wink.gif

I don't believe the MC:LA quote at all. I know it comes from a reliable source (Game Informer), but they're literally the only one who reported that. It doesn't seem like they got that information from Rockstar either, just something they jumped to in conclusion.

-Head lights

-Tail lights

you may be right. (so far) we haven't seen any proof in screens/vids of that kind of extensive customizing

thats all you really need I think putting lamborghini doors on an escalade like 50 cent used to do is too much.

I'd like to have be able to customize the cars with a GPS tracker so if someone steals your car you could track them down, kill them then get your fully upgraded ride back!!
