Len Lfc Posted June 4, 2013 Share Posted June 4, 2013 So, I'm pretty sure you all remember how in one of the previews, I think maybe GameInformer, Rockstar Games mentioned that Los Santos is Slightly smaller than Liberty City. Here on the forums it was debated whether or not that included Alderney as it isn't actually a part of Liberty City. Well, last week I decided to ask them via the MouthOff email thingy & I asked them this: From: Paul [mailto:my email address] Sent: Friday, May 31, 2013 3:43 PM To: RSGNYC Mouthoff Subject: MOUTHOFF EMAIL: Question about Liberty City From: Paul Age: 22 Message: Hi. Now, my question is, when talking about Liberty City, from GTA IV, do you consider the island 'Alderney' a part of Liberty City? I guess what I'm asking is when referring to Liberty City do you mean the entire GTA IV map, Alderney included, or just Algonquin, Bohan, Dukes & Broker. As Alderney as based of New Jersey in real life, New Jersey isn't a part of NYC. A lot of people are really confused by this when Rockstar Games said that Los Santos in GTA V is a little smaller than Liberty City in GTA IV. So please if you could clarify this I would be extremely grateful for your help, & thank you. Keep up the hard work & don't stop making awesome games! Miss Darko Posted June 4, 2013 Share Posted June 4, 2013 Interesting. It always seemed pretty inconsistent within the game, though. Sometimes Alderney is treated as a different city in the dialogue (for instance, someone would say something like "bringing the stuff over from Alderney to Liberty City"). I remember Little Jacob claiming in "Out of Commission" that Alderney "is a different state than the rest of Liberty". Which means that while part of the same city, they're part of different states. Just like in the state of New York, people also refer to the city as New York. Rockstar said that the city of Los santos will be slightly smaller than liberty city. Many people were unsure whether or not they were including Alderney as that is not technically part of liberty city. Now that we know they are, it means Los Santos the city will only be a bit smaller than the entire map of GTAIV, this is big news mate so take your f*cking sarcy comments some place else. Some dude named Paul who works for R* and likely has nothing to do with its creative department allegedly stated that Aldenery was part of Liberty City. Not only is Alderney confirmed not be part of LC in the Liberty City Guidebook, but also in the Liberty City Street Map included with GTA IV. The "Liberty City Sights" section under the map is divided by LC's four boroughs (Algonquin, Broker, Dukes, Bohan) and Alderney is listed under "Beyond Liberty City." How could a part of LC be beyond itself? I'd like to see that because I guess I missed that. It's there somewhere, I promise you. I think it was in the GI preview from November. But the previewer said that's what Rockstar told them. If I can find it I'll let you know. EDIT: This is from the GameInformer Q&A, nothing official, but I'm sure this is where a lot of it may have come form also. Source From what you saw, did Los Santos, the city itself (not including mountains/countryside/etc.) appear bigger than GTA IV’s Liberty City? Los Santos definitely covers more square footage, just as the sprawling Los Angeles metro area does compared to New York City. But just like the real cities, if you’re wondering about the density of the downtown area, Los Santos proper is smaller than Liberty City. They're not like your average Telsell company stating misleading things that aren't a 100% true. Liberty City is Liberty City, meaning the complete map of GTA IV.
