jamieleng
Oh, I am sure it will be 1st person, if the game is in 3D with glasses and so on. Maybe the gen after this next-gen. I truely don't like these comments here like "Never" etc. Have you guys ever thought about 3 characters in a GTA before we got this info for V? I doubt that. That's hardly a valid comparison. Three protagonists doesn't completely change the feel of the game or the way it's played. And yes, a lot of people have thought about multiple protagonists. That's because multiple protagonists was a feature in the very first GTA game, but because they didn't have personalities or even speak, it didn't really matter who you chose. You could say this game is just an evolution of that, to IV/EFLC to V.
Graven
How do FPS protags keep their eyes moist? You never see them blink. That's scary.

davetopper
The thing about third person as opposed to first person is that you get to see more of the surroundings. In third person you can see who you're shooting at. In first, the gun is right up front. Also third person is more cinematic and like a movie. Not to mention and to coin a phrase, first person SUCKS. Mungo Chatney
Just to clear it up, i just meant it as an option, not replacing it with 3rd person. Sorry OP, that didn't clear it up. Everyone still seems to think you mean replace. I think it would be a great addition. There wouldn't be any need for it to work perfectly (to the detriment of TP), for things like combat you'd just pop back to TP. We already have that cinematic car view which is completely useless, but its still fun.
GTAKing3197
If Rockstar turned Grand Theft Auto into a First-Person Shooter I would cry and be ashamed of them forever! If they did it would kill GTA! Unless it was just an option for driving then that would be ok I always wondered if Grand Theft Auto would ever have a cockpit view, it was good in Driver: San Francisco, I would like to see it in GTA First-Person shooting in GTA though, no way! Honest Bill
I personally prefer first person view. It has more immediacy and engages you in the game world in a way that third just can't achieve. I'd love it as an option to view the world through the eyes of somebody who is actually in the world as opposed to just following somebody from a cinematic perspective. That being said, i wouldn't want it to replace third completely. In most games where you are given freedom to switch between views. i do so, and often to match my mood and how i want to view the world. First person is also the only way, in my opinion, to have a truly satisfactory experience in so far as shooting mechanics are concerned. That said, i don't think they will ever do it. They've said a few times now that they don't want to. I found Dan Houser's quote about the reasons for 'deliberately avoiding it' (as if you could accidentally slip in to it) to be mostly nonsensical. I much preferred a quote i read years ago, where one of the Houser's (not sure which) simply said "It doesn't interest me" While i found that equally disappointing, at least it was honest and made sense. Buffalo Soldier
I use to hate First Person Shooters up until I played Far Cry 3 recently, and now I love the idea of it - I hate how it's overused nowadays though, and I'm worried to be honest (and i've only came to this conclusion because im baked right now) that if Rockstar ever ditched the 3rd Person View, the few remaining games that still use 3rd Person, still switch and eventually First Person Shooters take over - Rockstar is a trendsetter, if the trendsetters start doing some new sh*t - then the rest follow. BUT, I would adore it as an option 110% - Vice City had it in a way, and even then I liked it. The First Person Mod for GTA IV is absolutely amazing and I literally bought a copy of GTA IV on the PC, for THAT alone so I could download that Mod (well, and the cop mod) I mean exploring Liberty City in first person, standing at Star Junction looking on at The Triangle - it gave the city a far, far better feeling and even now I'm still in love with it and feel like I've BEEN in Liberty City. I'm completely behind the OP and Rockstar should SERIOUSLY consider using it as an option for GTA V, and if it hasn't already crossed their minds then I'm shocked. Buffalo Soldier
IF - It did happen though, it would be a major leap for the game and I disagree with the lad up there who made The Multiple Protagonist comparison - this would be like a new GTA III, think about it. Back in the day we were use to playing GTA from a 2D Perspective, then GTA III came along with 3D - if another GTA title in the future, not even talking about GTA V here - then that would be a massive, massive turning point for the game once again. Revolutionary.
CTCCoco
FPS view makes the game more inmmersive, I don't know why people hate it.
CalgaryJay
^^ I've heard people complain about it making them dizzy & a little motion sickness. I personally haven't found this, but it just really bugs/hurts my eyes after awhile. Tried it in an old, PS2 Call of Duty, I kept having to rub my eyes after awhile because it was driving them nuts, before I finally just gave up. The camera spins wayyy too much in FP for my liking. I also hate how you can't see what's at your feet. You keep running into things you can't see, then have to awkwardly look down, back up, move over, etc. Or falling because you didn't see a dip/hole in the ground, etc. Just annoys the living hell outta me. I don't get how other people even handle it, let alone preferring it.

acmilano
Always prefered TPS to FPS.When there is option between two like in Fallout always pick TP view. Still liked games like FC3 and Deus Ex,and play some classical military shooters like COD,Battlefield and Killzone. It just seems somehow claustrophobic to me. Also, back in the day when i didnt have console or PC i could only play GTA games in internet cafe, and you couldn't get a free PC becouse of all fanatical Counter Strike players who only play that and laugh on anybody playing anything else. So it stay some bad feelings to FPS since then.
RedDagger
I have to wonder, is there a name for the apparent group mentality that features so highly on this forum, where suggestions are deliberately taken wrongly just so people can sh*t on them? Seriously, so many of you are acting like what we're saying is that it would switch from a TPS to a FPS. We're saying it would be an option, just one of the different camera angles you can get when cycling through them. Jesus. So if you do hate FPS, guess what? GTA still wouldn't be one. Addressing the concern over the character, some people would prefer - not even necessarily all the time - to play like it's them in the shootout, bullets whizzing by their head, camera getting knocked around by explosions and bullet impacts. Wouldn't that be nice? Getting hit by a car or an explosion would feel more forceful instead of looking at the ragdoll physics - which others would prefer to do - because your camera would be twisting through the air, or getting forced into the bonnet then the ground, maybe even a little pool of blood. Also, this would cater to role players significantly, and movie makers could make good use of it.
Macabro
I'd check it out, but I would hope that it would be an option. I like to play ES and FO in 3rd person sometimes. Specially when Im around safer places like towns.
Official General
What do y'all think of this? Should GTA have a 1st person view as an option? Discuss. Nothing to discuss. The day GTA becomes first-person is the day it stops being GTA. End of.
