TakinThyBacon
I really can't understand why COD never has feet or a torso when even modders can put them into GTA IV. If developers miss the simplest things. Are their games worth buying? No! ...many first person games do that. Not just CoD. People seem to be hating on FP, but I don't know why. Of course, you know when they're jumping on the bandwagon when they mention CoD. Why? Because FP in CoD isn't magically different to other FP games. There are many non-generic games out there that use FP, it would help to not be close-minded for Rockstar games - even racing games are preferred in 'FP', look at how many people were annoyed GRID 2 didn't have it I do have to say, that for the use in GTA TP would definitely be preferred as the default, though FP would be nice for a different experience. As said before, it would make it feel like it's you in the game - and tied with a good enough screen and pair of headphones, would be really nice to just walk around and enjoy the game world. Similar to ^ post. Yeah basically there is no reason for them to be there as they will never be rendered so they do it to save disk space
jamieleng
Why FPS sucks I disagree, I think it is a balancing act between immersion and character identification, in my eyes you do not need to see the character for the fact that you are the character. I think it boils down to one question, do you want to play AS the character or do you want to BE the character? If you want to play AS the character then 3rd person is probably for you, but if you want to BE the character than more than likely 1st is the way to go. Now thats not saying that one is right or wrong, its just 2 different ways to view your role in the game. Now there are sacrifices both ways, with 1st person, yes you are walking around holding a gun in an odd position, but that is essential to gameplay. Same goes with 3rd, you walk around constantly viewing your characters bald spot as if you were some annoying parrot waiting to roost on the characters shoulder, but you gain visible character movement and a broader perspective of the world. I personally prefer 1st person, for one reason, world immersion. I feel much more involved and part of the world I am playing in when I am at eye level with the AI and when I can see the faces up close and personal. The characters I really get into & remember long after I've finished the game, tend to be from games that are solely third person. Just off the top of my head, Alan Wake, all the GTA protagonists (even Claude), John Marston, Max Payne, Nathan Drake and probably Joel from Naughty Dog's upcoming game. Hell, even Link from Legend of Zelda (who would be nobody if in FP viewpoint). Maybe First Person view is supposed to make it seem like I'm the protagonist, but it doesn't work for me. Like the game I'm currently playing 'Far Cry 3' & its protagonist Jason Brody, who is a really weak character when compared to the rest of the cast, who are quite memorable. I know for a fact that I'll have completely forgotten about him in a month or two. I also know that none of the 3 protagonists in V would make an impression on me in first person & all the character customization would be pointless. I know people who are for it say 'optional', but I've addressed why 'optional' can be detrimental to the game in my last post. theworldfamous
I like the idea of having a game LIKE gta in first person, but gta itself.. over my dead body. It changes the nature of the game too much, the pace will be different. It won't be GTA anymore.
CrazyAssTrevorV
There will never be a first person GTA or a first person RockStar game whatsoever. Every single game R* has came out with has been 3rd person, thats the way they like it and so do I. FPS games just aren't as fun as third person games in my opinion. Far cry 3 is the acception cause that game was pretty damn good. I even played Skyrim in the 3rd person the whole game other than when I was using a bow. .kiwi_4
I would hate GTA if it was first person. It wouldn't be GTA then. GTA III is the mother of the 3rd person free roamers and it should stay that way, just makes it GTA IMO.

Durden
I don't see how it will be more realistic. The whole point of realism is to feel like you're there in the game - immersion. This is impossible since the characters have their own personalities & such. GTA is supposed to feel like you're playing as someone else. You're not playing your own story. If you want that kind of stuff, there's always Fallout, Skyrim, etc...
CM_Kimmy
Only as an option, if they made it compulsary then they would lose alot of fans and you would lose the original feel of the game. I've tried out mods of first person gta iv and san andreas and they just suck, mainly because of the graphics
VivaSonny
i don't see any added value in creating such a topic. any videogame created in first person, could be named GTA, sure, but it would never be the same as the videogame franchise this forum is about. I don't know if you see which one I'm talking about... There are already sandbox-style and exploration first person games, like Far Cry 2, Elder Scrolls I reckon, don't know many examples cause I've never spent much time playing them. In an exploration game a narrow view of the world that you get in first person becomes frustrating after a while. I don't mean to antagonize you but it's probably one of the worst ideas I've heard for GTA

CalgaryJay
It'll go first person the day I stop playing it. I absolutely hate first person, it rattles me so much. I've avoided entire franchises that otherwise seem very interesting (e.g. Far Cry 3) simply because I can't get over the first person view. If R* ever turns GTA into 1st person, I'm officially done with the series.

Official General
It'll go first person the day I stop playing it. If R* ever turns GTA into 1st person, I'm officially done with the series. This is my view exactly Really don't why the OP has to make a thread about this. If GTA ever becomes a first-person shooter, that would be the day it is no longer GTA. Even as an option. Talk about an idea that would effectively ruin the whole game. The worst idea ever to grace this thread It's not gonna happen anyway. GTA will remain third-person for as long it continues to exist. Xaynt
Most FPS games feel like they're still short in perspective realism. LA Noire was getting better at it. And then there was Mirror's Edge, where they were attempting to make a major leap in first person perspective. But in GTA, I'd imagine they'd save that kind of innovation until way later in the series, maybe GTA XXXV or something. By then there'll be holodecks. HaythamKenway
Ï don't want GTA to turn into FPS. First person camera is just restrictive and annoying in sandbox games. I want to have a good look at the game world and the protagonist and his movement when playing a sandbox game. That's what pis*es me off about Far Cry. It's an amazing game, no doubt, but the fact it's an FPS, when classic sandbox TPS approach would have suited it better, just turns me off. DS 17
Oh, I am sure it will be 1st person, if the game is in 3D with glasses and so on. Maybe the gen after this next-gen. I truely don't like these comments here like "Never" etc. Have you guys ever thought about 3 characters in a GTA before we got this info for V? I doubt that. BlackNoise
I don't mind an FPS view. One of the things I've always loved about GTA is the amount of camera views. I barely used it, but I would even want the top down view to return. The more the better.
Tracksuit Hitman
Grand Theft Auto just wouldn't suit a first person view. I wouldn't be surprised if GTA will be first person at some point, but only if you truly feel like the character. Most FPS games don't feel like that. I think as soon as R* can create realistic peripheral vision they'll give us an authentic FPS camera view.
