MikeyBelic
Watching that video it actually personally makes the world feel a lot more beautiful in a certain way. But it would never work considering the crazy world GTA offers us. Our enemies spawn all over the place and for that it just wouldn't work, plus the guns look disgusting and the sounds and such still don't work. I won't lie though, I loved the whole running down the street thing in FPS, looked amazing.
BillyBigBaws
I think a 1st person view it would add a lot to the game.
j.hunt
Ill never buy a GTA in first person. I respect R* a lot and I know that they never would do something like that to my GTA
vivalavendredi
As a true fan of GTA you should read interview with Houser from time to time. This would avoid this question (and lots of others). Houser said that he is a big fan of 3rd person because it matches his imagination of storytelling better then first person and bla bla lots of other interesting stuff. So the answer is: never ever. Barguast
Jesus Christ some of you are over the top. Here is my go: 'If GTA goes first person I'll just kill myself, I swear to god.' It wouldn't be that difficult to add it as a 'during gameplay' option (i.e. not during cutscenes), and I think the new perspective would be interesting to try out. I imagine it'd be a lot more immersive. Skyrim (and I think Fallout?) have the option between 1st and 3rd person views and I wouldn't dream of playing these any other way than through the eyes of the character. BoyzNGroveStreet
Just to clear it up, i just meant it as an option, not replacing it with 3rd person.
waikzguy8998
I've never been a fan of first person. Although I dont see why it couldnt be added as an option since a lot of people do like it. True. And if you look at IV and RDR, zooming in with your weapon pulls the camera in close enough where it's almost 1st person (more of a 1st/3rd hybrid) An option would be legit, I'm just wondering if using that point of view on the camera would create loading lag, etc.
RedDagger
Personally, first person view would be nice to switch to every now and then, though I do have to say the animation, cover, clothing etc. of the character in third person seems more useful and better for GTA; however, to fit a first-person car view (which would be nice), a first person walking view would greatly help in those kind of situations. d3ex2
I wouldn't mind it if it were optional. I think just like Fallout 3/Skyrim would be fine except 3rd person is default so people don't complain (as much). You can switch to either one when you want. We need options. People who say it shouldn't be implemented at all are just being ignorant. Let us choose how we play the game.
BoyzNGroveStreet
Correct me if im wrong, but didnt the last previews say that there was a over-the-shoulder/FPS type thing when shooting or somethin??

Guest
As an option, but third person should always be main priority. The video posted on the first page looks quite awesome as it is, and with some refinement and polish it would look really good. Like when he carjacked that dude, you should actually see your hands grabbing the guy and punching him, and when he ate the food you should actually see the burger near his mouth and his sleeve when he wipes his mouth. And the driving looked quite good actually. With a full fledged interior that would be awesome. Seeing the speedometer, GPS, radio, mirrors and everything. Of course if you pull out a weapon while driving, the camera should zoom out to third person. I think a first person Grand Theft Auto styled game would be quite good. poklane
As option, I want it. Instead of 3rd person, NO!
Miss Darko
when we dive to the ocean - confirmed where has this been confirmed? I recall reading something about this as well but I believe the source turned out to be not so reliable. So I don't personally believe it. Plus, it would be weird if it suddenly switched to first person outside your control every time you dip below water. I don't think R* will want the different kinds of gameplay to feel so separate. More OT: I've always felt a first-person option would be pretty good. I mean, I'd probably rarely use it, but it does have its uses and there's nothing wrong with more options. The only problem is, characters usually have to be animated differently depending on the different camera angles, because one thing might look good in third person but be weird and clippy in first person. It might require too much effort to make it all work for first person that could take away from the quality of the third person animations, and that would not be okay. It might not, of course. A developer can potentially make it all work, although usually one or the other is better (third person usually sucks in Bethesda games, Skyrim is the first one where they did it okay, but it's still clunky in comparison). But basically my point is this: it's not as simple as just moving the camera in front of the characters' faces. meson1
One of the defining principles of GTA's core concept is that it is a third person game. It is a fundamental aspect of the series. If you change it to first person, it isn't GTA any more.
MrSpooge
Only optional, please.. never go FPS GTA.. Please Rockstar.. Your better then that.
wwinterj
If GTA was 1st person, it would somewhat be more realistic, as you are in the eyes of your own protag. It would also become a FPS something I don't want it ever to become. R* shine at third person games (Max Payne, Manhunt, Red Dead Redemption and so on) no way in hell would I have loved them as much if those games were first person shooters. A option can't hurt though if they can get it right. Edited June 4, 2013 by wwinterj
VIPΣR
Hopefully never, because the third person view is a lot better for an open world game. (I don't like Far Cry 3)
Backfire6
NEVER! 1st person is boring!! Exactly. A first person GTA would not be GTA. It would just look like any other dumb first person game.

jpalmer2004
I really can't understand why COD never has feet or a torso when even modders can put them into GTA IV. If developers miss the simplest things. Are their games worth buying? No!
jamieleng
Why FPS sucks I totally agree with you in that post. I somehow feel more attached to my character when I see him/her throughout the game. I also like being able to see the immediate area around me, being able to look behind me by turning the camera, while my character is still facing forward. I think Max Payne 3 gave us the best of both worlds, third person view & 360 degree aiming, with some beautifully fluid animation. I'm not saying I hate FPS's, just that a game has to be one or the other, or it ends up not being great at either. This is the problem I have when people propose a change, then say it should be an option. You can rarely have the best of both worlds, so as a developer you have to make a choice when designing your game & stick with it. TakinThyBacon
Why FPS sucks I disagree, I think it is a balancing act between immersion and character identification, in my eyes you do not need to see the character for the fact that you are the character. I think it boils down to one question, do you want to play AS the character or do you want to BE the character? If you want to play AS the character then 3rd person is probably for you, but if you want to BE the character than more than likely 1st is the way to go. Now thats not saying that one is right or wrong, its just 2 different ways to view your role in the game. Now there are sacrifices both ways, with 1st person, yes you are walking around holding a gun in an odd position, but that is essential to gameplay. Same goes with 3rd, you walk around constantly viewing your characters bald spot as if you were some annoying parrot waiting to roost on the characters shoulder, but you gain visible character movement and a broader perspective of the world. I personally prefer 1st person, for one reason, world immersion. I feel much more involved and part of the world I am playing in when I am at eye level with the AI and when I can see the faces up close and personal. RedDagger
I really can't understand why COD never has feet or a torso when even modders can put them into GTA IV. If developers miss the simplest things. Are their games worth buying? No! ...many first person games do that. Not just CoD. People seem to be hating on FP, but I don't know why. Of course, you know when they're jumping on the bandwagon when they mention CoD. Why? Because FP in CoD isn't magically different to other FP games. There are many non-generic games out there that use FP, it would help to not be close-minded for Rockstar games - even racing games are preferred in 'FP', look at how many people were annoyed GRID 2 didn't have it I do have to say, that for the use in GTA TP would definitely be preferred as the default, though FP would be nice for a different experience. As said before, it would make it feel like it's you in the game - and tied with a good enough screen and pair of headphones, would be really nice to just walk around and enjoy the game world.
