GTAV running on a super slim PS3

I have a PS3 Slim and the only problem I had with it is that the textures on Spec Ops: The Line loaded late but I don't know if it was the game or the console.

I have played GTA IV: TBoGT and had no problems on it but I have not tried RDR yet.

Anyways, it is most likely your console dude monocle.gif

Yeah apparently the Super Slim PS3s are pretty defective. They're allegedly more prone to the YLOD and as you can tell, freeze often. You should've got a regular slim, as those are apparently Immune to the YLOD and are more stable. I wonder who's the f*cking idiot at Sony that thought of the Super Slim anyways.

I don't know, but his twin brother probably works at Microsoft & thought up the Xbox Arcade. Like sticking with DVD's wasn't bad enough, they then skimped on the storage. This has caused no end of problems & was incredibly shortsighted, so much so, that the RROD would've killed off a smaller company.

I own both consoles, but I've had the 360 four times as long as my PS3, so most of my games are on it. I think Sony deserve to finish strong this gen & if they avoid the anti-consumer bullsh*t of the Xbone, they should start strong next gen. I pick the side who treats me like a consumer & not a potential thief, I don't care who that is.

Yes. RDR has lagged on my PS3 Slim. But it wont get frozen always, just when i press all the buttons together or when there is alot of shooting going on.

If the first game you tried froze up and other do also why didn't you replace it within the replacement period, assuming it was new from a store. I have the 80GB phat with BC so cant say if its a superslim problem, but i haven't hard about any problems with them.

Can you not read?

I said in my OP that EVERY other game works perfectly.

It's only RDR that freezes.

Well I connected to the Internet, got the system update, put in RDR, updated the software for that, and went online. It was running without a single fault for 20 minutes and then it froze in the middle of a shoot out.

I don't know what to do anymore.

I guess I'll go buy the GOTYE and see if it still freezes on me.

I did buy a used copy of RDR so maybe the disc did overheat at some point.

*le sigh*

You just answered your own question.

RDR keeps freezing because it a second hand copy,

those game shop fix the scratches on that disc but that does not

mean they have fix the damaged data (damage caused by the scratches)

on the disc. So it not your PS3 its your copy of the game. Maybe try going

back to the shop an get a other second copy.

Reason i think it play on the fat PS3 is because they are less sensitive, when

it comes to reading discs.

Im 99.9% sure its freezing your ps3 because of the bad disc. Dont use that disc anymore, buy a new RDR if you really want to play it.

Great news everyone!

I went out this morning and bought the GOTYE of RDR.

Been playing for 45 minutes online, hasn't froze once.

It was clearly my disc.

Thanks for the input people!

I feel fairly confident now about running GTA V on my PS3.

Mods, feel free to lock this thread unless you deem it worthy of further discussion.

What is this nonsense? There's nothing wrong with the very slim PS3. bored.gif

Maybe clean the disk rather than making a silly thread?

I've had my slim for 4 years now and there hasn't been a SINGLE problem. There is simply nothing wrong with the slim, in fact it's the best build of the PS3 ever since.

Not the slim. The one with the slide disc tray.

I love my super slim, got it around feb this year, hours of playing GT 5, watching netflix, GTA IV ect, not one single slow down or problem, they did quite a good job with the cooling on these things.

The only thing I don't like, is the shiny plastic that scratches if you so much as breath on it. Why couldn't they just make it matte?

It's also 'whisper quiet, unlike my 360 which sounds like 3 'Juice Looseners' going at the same time.

Nah I beg to differ, my shiny fat 60gb PS3 with b/c says hello.

That is the best model there is, at least in the UK where I live.

Believe me, i live in the UK too and the slim model is the best one made. You're pretty much lucky to still have the fat PS3, i'm surprised you haven't even had the YLOD. But, the fat PS3 has the best design, absolutely amazing design!

I have had a black original slim 160GB Ps3 since Christmas 2010 and it has been great for me. It freezes occasionally, but only when I play online like on TBOGT or Need For Speed.

my ps3 has only frozen mayb once or twice in the 2 1/2 years ive had it. however ive been red ringed 7 times on my 360

I don't understand how this happens to people. A couple of times maybe. But 7? You must have been using the thing as an ashtray and a soccer ball too. My arcade fitted with a 50GB hard drive hasn't red ringed once.

Edit: Frozen a couple of times now that I think about it. But that's out of 5 years.

I still think my fat PS3 60gb shiny is the best mostly because of the b/c. It still looks like a very sleek, powerhouse of a machine, it certainly is the best design. I just love the piano black shiny finish and the gleaming chrome trim.

I have had it since October 2007, and it has not given me a single problem or issue so far, thankfully. No YLOD at all. I just try to look after it very carefully, and so far it has served me perfectly.

I wish more people learned the quick easy mods to fix an old Xbox 360 (obviously the newer models after 2010 run quietly).

I bought an early Xbox 360 from eBay about 2 years ago for £20.. yes £20, fully working and barely played.

I immediately cut the plastic mesh off the back around the extraction fan area, and screwed on a side fan which I soldered onto the inside to draw air in faster.

Fairly sure I replaced the thermal paste with arctic silver.

It runs quietly and cool-ly even under stress and I doubt it'll ever red ring on me.

oh yeah that drives me nuts, and that super shiny plastic is a dust magnet, you clean the surface, its dusty again within 10 minutes. but it is super quiet, and stays pretty cool. I think the best one that PS have put out, first one had cooling problems, second one did as well.

Just bought a 500GB super slim (for GTA V obviously biggrin.gif ) and I'm planning on buying RDR soon so I'll report back when I get it.

I remember when consoles were about playing games without problems... I never was interested in the whole Xbox 360 and PS3 thing, that's why I play PC. Now, of course a PC can have the same amount of issues (especially if you run any version of Windows after XP). Gaming PC's are starting to get cheaper than consoles, but why do game developers insist on thinking aged consoles can run games nowadays? It's very silly... I'm waiting for the PC version, even if it does mean I need to wait a few months.

So, why does the slim PS3 have less power than the original? I still have my limited edition silver slim PS2, works fine and never had any problems whatsoever, and it didn't get limited on power for being slim.

  • 1 month later...

since the topic about overheating is locked i'll post here.

I have a fat post BC/media card reader 80GB, bought used for my other TV and two years ago it ylod on me. Didn't really get around to fixing it for a while but eventually used the heat gun trick and also reapplied thermal compounds to the RSX chip (under the heat spreader) and it worked fine until last week when it shut down due to overheating only after about 30 minutes. I narrowed it down to the CPU that was running almost 20C higher then the GPU in menu, so looks like i'll be replacing that as well. I should have done it at the same time but the CPU heat spreader is a bit trickier to remove and since it worked i let it go thinking it was normal for it to run 12-15C higher (maybe it is)

So if you have replaced the thermal pastes properly and it is still overheating it might be that you need to remove the heat spreaders and reapply the paste directly on the chips.

I got the first fat one, should i be worried?

Nah.

I have one of the secon gen Fat ones (No BC for PS2 games and only two USB ports) and it runs like a champ nearly five years down the line, I'd assume yours should be the same. Dunno.

The fat Play Stations I swear by be it a 1,2 or 3 they're built like a tank.

you mean the 40gb ones with no SD slots?

the ones that came right after the first fat?

the one that was released with IV

Well if yes, we got the same one
