GTAV running on a super slim PS3

I've got a regular slim PS3 and it runs Sony exclusive games no prob. but when it came to Multiplatform games, I would get random freezes, but it happened the most with Max Payne 3, RDR ran decent on it, and I have EFLC downloaded from the PS Store and it runs really good. The only thing is, it runs hot no matter what I play, even hotter with multiplatform games even though it has no air flow obstruction... so I invested in a $10 laptop dual fan stand that plugs into the USB, and it runs everything better now, havent had a problem since I did this.

Edit: Guess I could put the point in... I think it has a lot to do with the heat, especially since the Super slim has even less vents than the slim which had less vents than the fat which in turn makes each newer model run quieter but with more over heating.

Edit 2: I gotta dust off around my PS3!

My Fat PS3 used to get pretty hot after long play sessions but standing it vertically really helped fix this. But the super slim doesnt get anywhere near as hot as the original. Cool as a cucumber.

About your freezing issues:

I have never, ever had Red Dead Redemption freeze on me in the singe-player, or due to a bug. The only time(s) it has ever frozen is when jack-asses brought Undead Bait to the free roam and threw it at me, that is the only time Red Dead ever froze on my Xbox360.

So, due to that fact, I am in no way worried at all.

Get an Xbox. biggrin.gif

I got a XBox 360. Got RRoD after a few months, too. Not many hours of gaming and the only game I played was IV.

So I don't recommend the XBox to anybody anymore. It's just a piece of crap. More than 75% of all (!) Xbox 360 will have the RRoD sooner or later. More sooner than later.

Very very unlikely to happen on a 360 Slim

Had mine since launch no problems. Had my PS3 Slim for less then a Month and I've had more problems with it in the short month then I ever have with my Slim 360.. Seriously, tonight it f*cking up every time I play Resistance 3.

I bought my super slim back in February.

First game I fired up was RDR.

It froze on the opening cutscene and continues to freeze to this day.

I can be playing poker, running, or riding my horse.

It will randomly freeze up at any given moment.

That said, IV and LA Noire run perfect, so it could be my copy of RDR.

Except it isn't.

It runs perfectly on my parents first gen PS3, never froze once.

So, for the owners of the super slim, does this happen to you and are you at all worried that the super slim just doesn't have the processing power to run a game as large and complex as GTAV?

P.s yes, I've tried to switch PS3's with my parents because all they use it for is a Blu-ray player, but the old man is too stubborn and hasn't budged yet.

I had RDR mess up before. There were no scratches on the disc and I deleted the game data. Turns out I overheated the disc. You need a new disc or buy it from the Playstation Store.

Consoles die no matter the model. I had a white 360 and that got Red Ring so I bought a Xbox Slim. I had a fat PS3 that got Yellow light, got a refurbished one from Sony that also died and now I have a PS3 slim. No doubt next gen consoles will have issues also as Sony said themselves when on the phone to them "consoles are just machines that can brake at anytime". Personally I'll be going with the PS3 and I'm not worried. Go with the console you prefer.

Mr Makaveli
I got the first fat one, should i be worried?

I remember putting in GTA IV for the first time in my 60gb fat ps3 and it froze half way through the installation, and that continued to happen until my ps3 eventually got the yellow light and I had no choice but to buy the slim. Hopefully these sort of bugs will be fixed in V and it'll run smoothly on all Ps3's

Hmm, that's pretty weird I got my Super Slim about 3 months ago and play GTA IV, RDR, and tons of other games on it and it's been running fine. Do you move it around a lot or happen to hit it? Well maybe mine's been running fine because I downloaded RDR from the playstation store. dozingoff.gif

Yeah me too. Maybe his has less space available? I have like 20 games on mine and still have 282 gb to spare lol.

I have one of the launch day PS3s, it yellow lighted about a year ago so I reflowed the motherbodard in my kitchen oven. Has worked like a champ ever since!

I'm slightly worried GTA V may cause it to explode though. bored.gif

That's just a lame excuse for the poor build of both companies' consoles. I've never heard of a console breaking down after a few months when it comes to Atari, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, GameCube. I still have all those systems and they work fine!

Anyways, I have regular Slim PS3. GTA V should work fine. I never new that the Super Slim wasn't as good, unless it's just the OP's console.

Super Slims are great to play small games that don't require everything from the console. Unlike GTA V that requires all.

Odd situation. My main PS3 is a 500GB super slim and I've never had that happen.

Just pull a swap on your old folks. They're old right? They won't know the difference.... biggrin.gif

Absolutely agree. They don't make things as good as they used to. tounge2.gif

My "super slim" has no such issues. Yours is obviously faulty.

My PS3 has only frozen while running BF3. Further, I notice some framerate drops with IV (also the only game with this problem). As for RDR and MP3, no problems whatsoever.

Yeah I've got the first gen fat PS3 with the backwards compatibility and whatnot, it even gave me the yellow ring of death and after an intense heat gunning on the insides it runs perfect now still.

Ofcourse it will run fine. All the machines since the first model have exactly the same processing capabilities.

The only difference is that the slim's are made with smaller chips which help to save electricity and allow for less heating. Most developers still use the old test phat units they were sent back when the consoles released to test they're games.

Well I connected to the Internet, got the system update, put in RDR, updated the software for that, and went online. It was running without a single fault for 20 minutes and then it froze in the middle of a shoot out.

I don't know what to do anymore.

I guess I'll go buy the GOTYE and see if it still freezes on me.

I did buy a used copy of RDR so maybe the disc did overheat at some point.

*le sigh*

Something in my PS3 slim fried when I was playing Borderlands 2 one day for about 25 minutes. I got it fixed, but I'm really worried about binge playing GTA V. Open world games used to freeze all the time, but it hasn't happened since the fix.

I see some people here don't have this problem, if you have warranty then go tell them the issue.

If the first game you tried froze up and other do also why didn't you replace it within the replacement period, assuming it was new from a store. I have the 80GB phat with BC so cant say if its a superslim problem, but i haven't hard about any problems with them.

That's utter hogwash. Do you really think Sony could get away with selling less reliable products later in a console's lifespan? No, it should go the other way, the later consoles should be redesigned to be more efficient & reliable.

There's no way I'll be buying the first set of next gen consoles & reliability is just one of the issues.
