I have the really old fat ps3 got it around release and a year old xbox. The Xbox has f*cked up on me 3 times and sounds like a tractor confused.gif

PS3 still runs well though, although there is quite a bit of fan noise from it now after a few hours playing.

Ide wager its your game, is everything up to date? All updates installed etc?...

No, it's not. Sadly, my roommate and I don't have Internet, and since all PS3's need to be connected through an Ethernet cable for internet, instead of being wireless (like it should be, in 2013) I've been unable to get any system updates at all.

? My ps3 uses wifi and bluetooth... Did the originals not?

The original needed an Ethernet cable. The super slim has an Ethernet cable port in the back, and as far as I can tell, Internet access is unavailable without said cable. Unless I'm missing something...?

Well I just tried a system update via Internet and it said an Ethernet cable is not connected.

R U a wizard?

Or is the slim, not super slim, the only PS3 worth wireless Internet capabilities?

Didn't need to read.

After stumbling around the network settings, I see how you can connect to a wifi network. Good thing my neighbor leaves his netgear system unprotected.

Will apply next time I have Internet.

Thanks!

Still doesn't solve my problem about RDR freezing.

And this was after I restored the file system.

If you smash a hole in your wall, you'll get much better reception from your neighbours Wi-Fi.

I bought my super slim back in February.

First game I fired up was RDR.

It froze on the opening cutscene and continues to freeze to this day.

I can be playing poker, running, or riding my horse.

It will randomly freeze up at any given moment.

That said, IV and LA Noire run perfect, so it could be my copy of RDR.

Except it isn't.

It runs perfectly on my parents first gen PS3, never froze once.

So, for the owners of the super slim, does this happen to you and are you at all worried that the super slim just doesn't have the processing power to run a game as large and complex as GTAV?

P.s yes, I've tried to switch PS3's with my parents because all they use it for is a Blu-ray player, but the old man is too stubborn and hasn't budged yet.

Why did you buy a super slim??

Why did you buy a super slim??

Maybe because it was Super Slim? Isn't that the "In" thing or are we into chubby models now?

Anyways, I was considering buying a SSPS3, however.. Reading these comments... The super slim has less processing power confused.gif Uhh... Really?

I didn't realize Sony could downgrade their console with games being spec'ed to run on the system.

If anything, the super slim has smaller components and runs more efficiently, using less power but the same performance.

Got the Super Slim about a month ago, first time I played a Game it Froze pretty much straight away. Hasn't froze since, maybe starting up jitters.. Like running in a motor, hahaha.. Haven't had the chance to Play RDR on the PS3 and I wont since I have it on 360. Either way, come release I'll be buying both Console Versions. But my reasoning as I have said before is because my Girlfriend can't handle a 360 Controller, even though the 360 Control is better IMO.

I've got a regular slim PS3 and it runs Sony exclusive games no prob. but when it came to Multiplatform games, I would get random freezes, but it happened the most with Max Payne 3, RDR ran decent on it, and I have EFLC downloaded from the PS Store and it runs really good. The only thing is, it runs hot no matter what I play, even hotter with multiplatform games even though it has no air flow obstruction... so I invested in a $10 laptop dual fan stand that plugs into the USB, and it runs everything better now, havent had a problem since I did this.

Edit: Guess I could put the point in... I think it has a lot to do with the heat, especially since the Super slim has even less vents than the slim which had less vents than the fat which in turn makes each newer model run quieter but with more over heating.

Edit 2: I gotta dust off around my PS3!

I think you need to invest in a vacuum cleaner.

LOL! Thanks for the tip! but for real, its a good investment no matter how long its been since you dusted your sh*t.

Edit: Decided the vacuum wasn't the best way to go... so I used a swiffer duster like normal then hit it with a damp rag. Clean as sh*t now! Inspired me to turn it on for the first time since last thanksgiving! Wooo!

Anywho: Here is something similar to what I have, have one for my 360 too. It def worth a try if you have freezing or overheating issue since its only $10.

She can learn how to handle a XBOX controller can't she?

I had that worry to when my fat PS3 died. Wanted to get PS3 slim but all Gamestop had was refubished. I heard the bad stories about the super slim being loud and the load times being horrible but decided to get new over used. Really I think it is just people that want to bitch about something. Got the 500 gig God of War bundle and I have not had any problems. I play Skyrim a lot on mine and even RDR. Hard for me to tell the difference in the game between the fat and super slim. My fat PS3 used to freeze at times to and my super slim does that as well but it is not that often. I would say about once a month. So from my point of view I don't see GTA V being a problem.

It might, it might not. The Super Slim's seem to be very problematic.

See if you can return it.

StalinBballin, if you own a 12 GB Super Slim, then you should certainly be no worried! I had the same problem as you: Red Dead Redemption lagged oftenly in random moments. Couldn't stand it! But there's a simple recipe:

All you have to do is buy a 2.5" HDD for your PS3. Anything should work out good. Personally, I'd recommend you the company called Western Digital and their Scorpio Blue HDD's. Fantastic prices for an absolutely priceless quality.

Think it will work on the second gen=ps3? (aka the 2nd fat one, made of cheaper plastic)

My fat PS3 was able to connect to the internet wirelessly and so does my super slim. Might be your connection settings.

All PS3's should have the same performance. The specs don't change. SONY only changes specs with a new generation console. All that changes between models is the design and using updated components to make it more efficient. For example the super slim draws less power and I believe the CPU is now 22nm (or somewhere about that) and shares a chip with the GPU.

No matter what model you have, games should always play at the same performance. If it doesn't then it's a software/hardware issue.

I'd say get an 80gb PS3 if you can find one. I have had mines since December 2007 and it has worked flawlessly and is still doing so in the present.

One of my mates has one of those I think. Or it might even be a 2006 one.

He has it covered in dust running most of the day every day almost against, by some god given miracle it is still running perfectly.
