Chris Fromage
Just in: Supporters of Erdogan and the police came on the streets in the city Rize with 5 times more man then the protestors. The protestors searched for help at the police. How Ironic. Throwing stones and self-made bombs to them, and then ask them for cover...
acmilano
Guess this explains some things: Turkey will wipe off its International Monetary Fund (IMF) debt this month by paying its last installment. Turkey will also be one of the countries which contribute financially to the IMF with a $5 billion contribution. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan mentions such developments with pride. The relations with the IMF, however, are only a small portion of the big picture. The actual foreign debt portrait that also contains the IMF debts is quite different. Turkey’s debt to the IMF is a very small portion of the total public debt. The IMF debt was $4 billion, while the total external debt was $119 billion in 2000. Two-thirds of the debt was public debt. At the beginning of the 2000s, high inflation was the biggest issue in the Turkish economy. What the IMF had suggested, the prescription of taming the inflation by fixing the exchange rate, was applied but in vain. At the end of 2000 the fixed exchange rate boosted imports, consequently the current account deficit; foreign investors ran away, the American dollar went up and so did inflation following it. Thus, the 2001 economic crisis erupted. Kemal Derviş, Ph.D., was brought from the United States to steer the economy in his capacity as the deputy prime minister. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkeys-i...D=238&nid=46647

TurkishPlayer06
I am pro-AK Party, and I give these people the right to protest. But what they did was horrible. They wanted to 'save' a park (well, we all know that is not true...) and they destroyed whole Taksim. If you want to protest, go make a petition and search for people to sign it. They have burned over 50 civilian cars, attacked the police, trew garbage over the street, attacked a mosque and much more. The police has the right to gas them when they do it if you ask me. Ak-party made Turkey a powerful country. In ten tears, they went from the most poorest countries to the fastest growing countries. Thanks to AK-party, Turkey has no debts anymore to the IMF. I am not pro-Ak party because I am Muslim (and for Raavi: I did finish University so uneducated am I neither) . I know what happened in the country of our historical brothers. I was their on 12 September 1980 when it all happened. I was just a kid and saw the horrors. And this didn't change until Akparty came. Erdogan made a revolution. From 3rd world country to the fastest growing economies in less then 10 years! From a country controlled by the army, it became a country controlled by the citizens! And I respect the police and want them to continue and even go further then that! That's why I changed my avatar into the symbol of the Turkish police. But let them protest. Now people see what the members of CHP can do, they will vote for Ak-party. Tayyip is georgian. when turkish people wake up. all tayyip "Yalakas"s will finish. that's big war to save turkish country to tayyip's government!!! also don't tell lie just like tayyip. turkish economy crashed. soldiers on prison. tayyip and other yalaka's will explain turkish people! İnşallah çapulcular altında ezilirsiniz!! Edited June 17, 2013 by TurkishPlayer06

dedeto
I know it's an ancient topic but what a shame for this chris fomage guy.He doesn't even know anything about my country but I saw many comments dropped here by him.Anyone who thinks Turkish riots in Gezi Parkı were violent and savage,THIS IS NOT TRUE,believe me.That chris fomage guy is a typical muslim person who thinks islamic presidents can make them better, powerful. As everyone knows, tayyip erdogan is an american project started in 2002 for bringing down the past government in Turkey and make business traffic more acceptable for them in Middle East. But this poor president brought here his own monarchy. He started with saying that he was the only protector of Islam and that made people believe him more. Now,some stupid folks say that he is another prophet.Do you believe this?People of my country say that tayyip is the other prophet!! Since 2002,he sold every single part of the country to Arabs. The majority of money is coming from this sellings. Now,foreign companise are withdrawing their accounts from my country because there is not a strong government here.Tayyip is stealing people's money.Chris Fomage guy doesn't know anything about that.Turkey's political system is broken now. This is the same lie: "before this president,Turkey was a 3rd world country." This is not true you ignorant chris fomage guy,Turkey is stil a 3rd world country.I live here,I talk with people and I know that they have not enough money to continue their life. There is only 2 social class : Government supported richs and the rest:poor people. Whole money is in tayyip's and his friend's accounts. Those riots didn't try to save a park, they tried to save the democracy and the humanity. And the police killed 7 of them cruelly, with throwing tear gas bomb from 2 metres direct to the face, hitting them intentionally with their armoured trucks. Is this an indication of being a modern country? Some guys posted above a graphic, indicating that the most educated towns in Turkey vote for AKP.This is not true, most of their folks are ignorant.AKP distributes free coals and nutriments just for having votes and IGNORANT PEOPLE VOTE FOR THEM,because they are poor. The government doesn't really take care about their voters. Ordinary people think that Islamic presidents will save them from being slave but they can't see that these presidents lie them to make their monarchy real, and tayyip made it real.He doesn't take care of his own citizens.A bomb exploded in Hatay and "200" people died!!But national channels and journals didn't say that, they just said they were 43 kills. You know why?Because that attack was occured by El Kaide terrorist who are fighting in Syria.Tayyip's government feed them with guns and they want my country to be a part of this sh*tty war. Believe me,those people like Chris Fomage don't know anything about Middle East. They are all computer-brained kids who believe their parent's opinions are the best. They can't even use their logic. I would like to explain more things but I think I'm not that enough to explain it in English Edited February 27, 2014 by dedeto RoadRunner71 and kipakolonyasi

BrownBear
My cousins in Izmir and Istanbul have been involved in these protests recently. It's quite a hard situation, because different social groups in Turkey live such different lives, those in large cities (in the west) tend to be educated, rich and not strongly religious, whereas in the massive rural areas the people are poor, uneducated and strongly Muslim; add to this the racial tensions in the east and it makes it hard for a government to satisfy the whole public. Personally, I believe all countries should have secular governments. I have nothing against religion, but government and religion should always be separate institutions
