Vehicle Storage

I apoligize if this has already been discussed, but I did a search and found nothing.

I wanted to know if anything has been confirmed on storing vehicles. I know there is a garage that comes with the CE, but how does it work? Will it be like the older GTAs where you can only fit a certain number and they will only be yours as long as you put them back in there yourself. I'm honestly hoping for Saints Row style vehicle storage, where you can customize and store all your favorite vehicles and if you destroyed one you had saved, you just payed to have it repaired. So how do you think vehicle storage will be and how do you want it?

I'm hoping for either Saint's Row style or...as in San Andreas...enough different garages to allow you to store a wide variety of vehicles.

While it would be nice to just be able to access damn near, if not literally, any vehicle at any garage....it was also a good bit of fun to know which garage holds which vehicle, and when the garage door goes up, well, there is your Sentinel sitting next to your Carbon RS Motorcycle with the HotKnife to the right of them.

Well, I'm sure most of the houses will have garages/parking spots. By the sounds of the "Exclusive garage" in the CE/SE garages will likely be separate, and not like SR where once you put a car in a garage it's available from all garages, though i was quite fond of that system myself.

Maybe a mix of the 2 styles could work where you can save your vehicles, but instead of being to acsess all vehicles from all garages, you can only acsess the ones you store there. I hope we can store Helicopters on helipads too, one of the things I want most in this game is my own personal Hunter.

So basically have it as it was in San Andreas, except that if you destroy a Saved Vehicle you can return to the Garage you saved it at and (for a fee) replace it?

I hope there is dead ni**er storage.

OT: I want a big warehouse where all protags can store major amounts of cars.

As long as there is some way to save vehicles you customize. Storing vehicles in past GTAs was kind of pointless and only for show. You might as well have grabbed a vehicle off the street since your vehicle was most likely going to be blown up, abandoned, dissapear randomly, or replaced by a mission vehicle. All you could do with "your vehicle" is take a cruise around the block and then park it back in the garage or space. I know everyone hates saints row, but this was one of their good ideas and I think it should be implemented that way we can use our favorite vehicles more often without fear of having to replace it.

I posted my idea on this in the street racer thread yesterday. Basically, you have two types of garages:

1) A regular garage at your safe-houses similar to all other GTA games. Used for quickly saving whatever vehicle you're driving.

2) Storage garages/showroom you purchase as separate properties that only store vehicles you have legitimately bought/won in races.

I got the idea from the Collector's Edition, seeing as it would be weird to spend so much money for the Hotknife car, only to flip it and never be able to get it back again. It would only make sense if it respawns in the free garage that comes with the game.

I loved the garage system in SA but yeah as others have posted, they should implement a system where you can retrieve certain cars you lost/destroyed.

The CE Garage isn't an exclusive garage it's just that when you put in the CE code it unlocks that garage right away as opposed to having to unlock it via the course of the gameplay (think of it as if you could've gotten the 2nd safehouse in IV unlocked from the start).

I want enterable subterranean garages as well as above ground garages where I can store a set number of cars, retrieve them or just walk trough admiring my collection.

I am not sure but it has come to my attention that a few people were not aware that San Andreas had an impound lot. If you got arrested you would find your car there. An impound lot would be a nice thing to have again in GTA5.

Another thing I would love to see is where ever you park your car, that becomes the save game spot. Grid coordinates, this or that, not really sure how they would work it, but it would be a nice touch.

Even the huge hanger had limits as to how many cars you could stow in there.

Another thing that irritated me with GTAlll but still thought it was clever on R*'s end was the fact that AI would come and steal it. At least I think that was lll. Anyhow nothing was sacred and made your garage that much more important.

Even so, on a mission, it would be nice to park your car and it will still be there when you get back. Of course to save game space, that can even be a one off.

We'll see.

Personally, I hope the garage system isn't like Saint's Row. The fact that you can lose your cars is what makes them valuable, and gives the player choices.

If you are consistently wrecking or flipping your cars and it seems like you are wasting your money customizing them, that should be your incentive to become a better driver.

Choices made with cars are a big part of a players' style and personality. Myself, I love cars and I often choose carefully when going into missions and sometimes bring disposable cars and other times bring cars I like, and I park cars I like in places where they aren't likely to get shot up, I use extra care or take extra risks to retrieve cars that I like, and I drive without running into everything. My friend on the other hand, uses them as disposable objects and goes through them like Kleenex.

Actions and decisions (and lack of skill, in some cases) should have consequences, and simply returning to a garage and having the car you just blew up in a shoot-out pull out of the garage like it's brand new because you paid a few dollars isn't really a sufficient consequence in my opinion.

It's relatively simple to me: if you care about your cars, take care of them. If you don't want to take care of them then you don't care about them, and therefore you shouldn't be bothered about losing them.

Of course there is an exception, when cars disappear because of missions or something. Rockstar needs to remedy this in my opinion, perhaps with some sort of car "tagging" system. For memory reasons, only allow a player to have one or two "tagged" cars, but once a car is "tagged" it can be left anywhere and will not disappear, unless of course you blow it up or dunk it in the ocean or something. That way we could leave cars for getaway vehicles (outside of missions), explore on foot without having to worry about wandering too far and having our car disappear, drive our cars to missions without having to worry about someone saying "let's take my car" and causing yours to disappear, you could leave your car far back when there will be danger, etc etc.

Fantastic idea.

That is now what I want.

That way any stolen car can be saved...but if you take it out of the garage and wreck it...oh well.

It would provide a reason to buy a car. Sure they might cost a hell of a lot, and you'd rather save up for more property or better weapons...but if you buy it once (and own a car lot) you will always have access to that car.

Would add a lot.

I saved up and bought car lot right away...ok cool. Now do I save up for that Infernus or do I just buy a Sabre GT and trick it out a bit. Or maybe just get a Sabre or Ruiner and trick it out a hell of a lot.

Decisions, decisions.

Personally, I like to take care of my cars as much as possible, which is why my cars rarely leave their parking spots, but I don't want that, I like to drive more than just around the block. I want to be able to use them in missions, street races, gang wars even, but you just can't because chances are you are going to get distracted in to doing a mission or something that requires you to ditch the ride and in as big a games as this, that is very easy. You just can't always have fun and take care of the vehicle you are driving at the same time. For example, no matter how good of a driver you are you can't predict the AI and what they are about to do, the traffic AI in past GTAs would randomly switch lanes right on top of you while in the middle of a race or a high speed chase. To me it doesn't take away from their value, it makes them useable for more than just a joy ride. You might not want to be able to save any vehicles, but I know many others wouldn't mind and I think Saints Row got it right on that one.

I hope the cars stay in the garage you put it in last, but a pause menu lists your entire car collection, where they are stored and gives you the ability to set a waypoint to get to them.

Also, I am hoping you can bring a custom car of yours into a multi player mode or two...especially free mode.

I doubt any of this will happen...

I wouldn't rule it off just yet , in the CE of the game they stated you could gain access to to the khamelion electric car in GTA online, so it either means you get it in race modes or free mode which would point to a possibility of a online garage to store your own vehicles.....

I hope that's what it is.

That way you could save (AT LEAST) one of your favorite vehicles with the paint job you want and the parts you want and have it available in any Free Roam mode.

That would be great even just to show off what you have and see what others have.

The thing is things are never simple.

Consequences are for real life. Do you know why people get virtual pets now? It's because they don't age and die and leave a hole in your heart.

Real consequences are for reality. I want to do donuts and drive my customized car off a bridge knowing that I can bring it back. It's more fun that way. Now I can add my own personal touch to mayhem whenever I feel like it, and that's important.

Reality has a lot of consequences. If you don't pay the bills, you lose phone, electricity, and heating. If you don't pay taxes the IRS sends hitmen. Wreck your and it's gone. That's why I don't want these in GTA V. Because this is not real life. I don't want to be responsible in a video game. I play video games specifically not to be responsible.

Plus, if you really don't want the car back, you could always just not pay to bring it back. Just saying. Maybe they could let you delete it from your garage at any time so you can lose it forever once wrecked. You know, like SR does?
