Another city or Not?

Why are people saying they kept Las Venturas and San Fierro a secret in San Andreas? They were both revealed in the first GameInformer preview of that game.

Wow, the poll results are quite depressing. Just when I thought people were beginning to smarten up. Many of you are still in denial after seeing how small LS is in the blueprint map, and so now you're trying to convince yourself that there's a second city. And about that screenshot, that's gotta be LS. The other towns throughout the map will be tiny like Trevor's town, so there can't be that many skyscrapers.

"Those skyscrapers are LS, because all other towns will be like Trevor's town". Crooked reasoning right there. You know NOTHING about other towns. Open your eyes and see that none of those skyscrapers appear in the LS skyline, not even a single one. I'm not going all "omgz itz LV SF VC LC all is in V", I'm just seeing that something major is out of place here. It certainly isn't LS, but what it is? I don't know, but judging from the position and skyline it might be LV.

Agreed. The other possible city isn't forced to be LV or SF but that picture as well as numerous other hints suggest there could be another large city.

The first San Andreas trailer only showed Los Santos. But the fact that the other two cities existed was revealed in Game Informer BEFORE that. We knew they were there, we just didn't see them until later the second trailer was released.

I have to disagree with you. The Los Santos replicated in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was very... I don't know what to say so can I say half of Los Angeles?! I personally felt as though Rockstar couldn't capture the best places of Los Angeles and let alone Los Santos felt very dead... but what can I say, there wasn't enough power on the PS2/Xbox to make Los Santos feel alive, bold and rich in all of its glory! Now since GTAV is going back to the streets of Los Santos, Rockstar can finally show the true essentials of Los Angeles and/or Southern California. Btw, can you please inform on why Rockstar still haven't capture the feel of Los Angeles in GTAV?

Probably because it doesn't have any sprawl.

That's exactly what I was thinking! People really do fail to realize that they can't replicate everything of Los Angeles with additional content into hardware that is so f*cking outdated. I honestly see that Rockstar has clearly rebuild Los Santos from the ground up and I respect that. I have honestly tell you guys that when I saw that first trailer of GTAV for the first time, I didn't expect it to be a fully HD remake of GTA: SA && that seems to be what a lot of people didn't do!

exactly. if you look at the blue print. im pretty sure its an oil field IF it was LS.

You have to ask yourself why you think there will be. This isn't San Andreas 2.0 and I believe R* would want to make that clear. You have to ask yourself why you think there will be. This isn't San Andreas 2.0 and I believe R* would want to make that clear. The map is supposedly massive but as R* have said that will be filled up with small towns and one "large" city. I really have no reason to doubt that and believe there is another city. I'm not trying to change your opinion as everyone has one. I'm simply saying if it turns out to be wrong then I hope you're not that disappointed.

I won't be disappointed if LV or any other large city isn't included with LS. The game looks fantastic from what we have seen so far. It's what we haven't seen that intrigues me. Rockstar stated long ago they didn't want to give away too much about their games before release, yet they've given away so much already, even a map showing just about all of LS. If Los Santos should be the only major city then that would leave only the countryside and small towns for us to discover. I strongly believe there has to be more.

I am holding out hope that San Diego will be in the game, probably on the east side of the map. If LS is equal to all of IV's map, then I would be content with SD being just the size of Alderney. It would still keep LS as being "one major city" but would still give us one medium city to dink around in.

 

Also, San Diego is closer to the Salton Sea than the SS is to LA. So if V already expands out far enough to include the SS it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to throw in SD as well. SD is just as much a part of the "southern CA experience" as LA is, so might as well just go all out and represent all of south CA.

Their approach to the SE and CE was very surprising, and disappointing, in general. I doubt that Dan Houser personally decides what's in those editions, though. But remember LS is at the southern end of the map.

Which is why it would have to be in the east. It looks like V is doing the same thing SA is, which is rotating the actual geography 90 degrees. It would work with LS being in the south, Alamo Sea being in the north east, and SD being straight east, and the mountainous regions in the north west. That's how I see it laid out anyway.

That's the way it is in all kinds of big organizations. You have pressures from all sides, from the creative teams, to the publishers and the suits up top, and the shareholders, and so on. The creative team will want one thing, but the guys at marketing will want another. The way the SE and CE was handled seems to be operating under a completely different philosophy from the creative aspect of this game, which seems to have a lot more integrity.

We don't know that for sure but I agree it definitely seems that way but it's been proven how shopped and fabricated that blueprint map is. The thing that is certain on the map seems to be the road layout only.

That's true but when Dan said that, I got the impression he was speaking on behalf of the marketing team and basically the company as a whole, not just his personal thoughts.

 

It's a good point though, I'm uncertain on how much influence T2 has over Rockstar when it comes to release strategies and such. I always get the impression Rockstar do as they please which I'm sure isn't the case.

Oh yes, of course they probably do. But it can still very much mean that one pressure is prevailing, and the others are simply having to suck it up and deal with it, because higher-ups tend to have more power... as one can imagine.

Then that makes sense then. If t2 wants r* to hide the other city seen in the screen with the plane, then they will have to keep it secret until release if they do so. Rockstar would probably rather to release info and screens in the other city but t2 says no

Well they showed us pretty much the entirety of Los Santos. That's quite a lot.

Exactly! The game world is such a major and integral part of GTA that is special and unique in each game. In my opinion, it makes no sense that Rockstar would give away the layout of the only city in the game.

 

I too would have preferred them to have not shown it, at least not so early on.
