Another city or Not?

Okay let's just settle this. Do you think there will be another city or not? Simply vote yes or no and we'll see who's right when the game is finally out. Personally I see LV being somewhat possible so I voted yes.

 

Please discuss your thoughts, just don't argue them as facts. Remember, it's fun to speculate!

 

Because there was some confusion as to what I meant by city, I'll explain here. It's a major urban settlement that is large in both population and sprawl. Such as LA/LS or LV.

They never said there isn't one, and if there is one we probably wont find out until the games release. However I'd say there isn't another major city, if there was I reckon that it'd be closed off at the start of the game and R* have already said the map is completely open from the start.

TBH, recently I have thought there may be a SLIGHT possibility of LV appearing, because:

-They are hiding the entire north end of the map

-There are numerous highways/railways running to this area

-The game centres around money. Las Vegas is money in city form.

-Los Santos is a 'decent size', but not big enough to warrant being the only city in this massive expanse.

 

And most importantly:

-They gave a valid reason for not including properties, then it turned out this was a lie and properties were in the game (they weren't added just because everyone moaned, believe me). They have given a 'valid reason' for not including multiple cities, but now we know that they lie to build hype.

Did Rockstar ever explicitly say there wouldn't be? I know they said LS and surrounding hills and re imagined So Cal but to me they're pretty broad statements.

I really don't know for sure, but I would hope so. I'd love another second city at least, something based on San Diego.

San Diego seemed a possibility as well. Though I never thought in to it as much as LV. One thing that supports it is that Salton Sea is quite close to SD (As opposed to LA anyway).

Great thoughts! Looking through the mapping Los Santos thread, the estimates those geniuses made suggested LS takes up a pretty small chunk of the whole map. Surely it's not all just country from there on. Although RDR showed us how a lack of urban environments can be still be fun and interesting.

 

Also, what is the need of planes if there is no other major point on the map to go to?

The state of San Andreas changed with the new generation. There's no way to tell if Las Venturas is in San Andreas or the GTA version of Nevada, because the last time it appeared was in a different continuity.

I see your point, I remember Rockstar some time ago explaining how they wanted to re create Los Angeles properly like they did with New York City in IV.

Obviously there are quite a few changes from the last generation, but I doubt they would change something that large. Besides, it's not too hard to believe, Las Vegas is pretty close to the California state line anyway.

Sorry guys, so far 31 of you will be disappointed.. or at least a part of it. There will be a few small cities aka towns aka villages. But Los Santos is the only one "real" and big city.

 

Otherwise this is gonna be the biggest surprise/troll by R*

GTA IV had two cities: Liberty City and Alderney City. They weren't really spread apart so it didn't have too much impact, but it was so nonetheless. Based on Jersey City, Alderney City was small compared to the giant city that is right near it. I think San Diego will get the same treatment here. It doesn't have to be huge; I'm picturing 1/8th the size of Los Santos or maybe even less. In the image below, Alderney City only covers the sections 2, 3 and 4.

 

 

All things considered, it's a very small portion of the map, but certainly large enough to represent a city that isn't the focus of the game. The impact will only be improved if you have to traverse countryside to get there.

 

The only problem is that there seems to be nothing South, East or West of Los Santos on the GTA V map, meaning the San Diego portion of the map would have to be North, which doesn't really make sense, seeing as a lot of the charm is that it's a border town with heavy Mexican influence... I guess there isn't much point debating geography before the game map is officially revealed though.

It's in a topic, I don't remember which one. But the skyscrapers can be seen on the left side of the screen in Trevor's trailer, when he's taking off in a red Cuban 800. Go and see for yourselves, it's pretty neat.

There's definitely still room on the map for another city and they didn't show the northern part of the map during the previews.

 

Using the pictures of the blueprint and the stated size dimensions, if there is no other city, then GTA V will have a higher percentage of countryside to city than GTA San Andreas.

It's in a topic, I don't remember which one. But the skyscrapers can be seen on the left side of the screen in Trevor's trailer, when he's taking off in a red Cuban 800. Go and see for yourselves, it's pretty neat.

I voted no but I do think there will be smaller towns and smaller cities but nothing like Los Santos scale. I did see the buildings when Trevor is taking off in the red plane but I don't think its going to be another big city. They might have just been buildings in the back drop not enough for me to go on there saying they were skyscrapers.
