Split screen; offline and online.

(Sorry if this topic already exists, I searched and couldn't find anything.)

Who else thinks it would be cool if we could play split screen free roaming with a friend sitting to you? GTA IV didn't implement this and I was quite disappointed. Now there's 3 protagonists, there is no reason why this shouldn't be made.

Also, the ability to split screen online free roaming would be cool.

Thoughts?

If I had an 80" TV, sure.

EDIT: Not sure what 80 inches is in non-American...it's like 14 kilostones or something.

The last time I played anything splitscreen was probably N64 GoldenEye.

Actually there is a reason why the don't do that, it doubles the workload of the system and this game is most likely already putting it to the limit.

inches = American now, does it? We work in imperial aswell over here.

Anyway, I've always wanted this, but I'm not sure how the console would be able to cope with rendering 2 different places at once with all the devastation going on aswell... I assume that's how SA was able to implement 2 player cause you used the same screen

As an American I'm ignorant of anything that happens outside my country.

Unless it involves going to war with somebody. Then I'm all up in that sh*t.

I think inches is the standard for screen sizes even in countries that adopted the metric system. It's in my country, at least.

Splitscreen > Online. At least for me. I prefer playing games with friends in the room than playing online with mostly idiots on there.

But I doubt there would be Splitscreen for V, which is a shame because it would be fun playing with a friend or family member only through free roam.

Inches are also commonly used in Europe, for measuring TV-screens for example.

Now that I thoroughly derailed the topic...

I'd be for splitscreen as an option if people want it, but it seems pretty uncommon now in games (since things have gone online). The most recent game I can remember (that I played) that has it was Resident Evil 5 (released March 2009). It didn't seem practical unless I had a TV the size of my wall. I don't know if it's due to "processing power" issues as someone else said, of it's just because game developers don't bother because of how widespread online game is.

Halo 4 2012 and COD still has it.

I`m all for it. Better have it and not use it than not have it and whine about why it isn`t there.

Because they are in small areas. Split screen isn't done in open world games because the system can't load two areas in detail at once. They only load the area you're in, and doubling that would mean major FPS drop/ a complete freeze.

Yes exactly that, it could only be possible by having both players in the same frame like in San Andreas on PS2.

just like ive heard English is "american" lol.gif

OT i think split screen is a dumb idea considering now you can go online and play coop with a full screen. Even COD annoyed the hell out of me durng split screen

These days, when your 24 inch flat panel LED TV weighs only about 8 pounds or so (that'd be about 0.6 stone), you can bring your console and TV and an IP cable over to your friend's place pretty easily, so at least you could have a MP shared experience.

But I agree, with mutlple protags, the potential for coop in actual SP missions would be cool.

I was just giving examples of games who still use split screen. IDK that RE5 was open world.

Split screen in gta would be awesome but like other people said here, it unfortunately can't be done. Would be awesome if they at least put the SA coop mode, that was tons of fun.

Games that use splitscreen are unfortunately almost extinct nowdays. While I don't see it working well on GTA games, I do miss playing splitscreen racing games with friends.

I liked that a second player could control your homie in San Andreas. It was limited sure but still a lot of fun. With three protagonists this game will be begging for a co-op story mode.

I don't think that would be the best idea in terms of lag but I would like to see system linking available.
