Should men be able to hit women in self defense?

So the other night, I was arguing with some chick on facebook on the topic of men never ever hitting women, ever. While I do agree that people shouldn't bust out of the bushes and start wailing on people unprovoked or anything, but I do believe in self defense. So anyway, she says "no man should ever hit a woman" and I replied "only in self defense they should", and she was all like "not even" and I was all like "what if they put a gun in your face and tried to rob you" and she said "give her your wallet", and I asked why a man can hit another man in self defense, but a man can't hit a woman in self defense, and she said "it's a respect standard". So what do you guys think on the topic, should men be able to hit women in self defense?

So by her logic, if a woman charges at you with a knife with the intent to kill you and the only way to stop her from killing you is knock her the f*ck out, you should just let her kill you?

Equal Rights, Equal Fights. It's a double standard. Women want the same rights as men, but with that would come the same discipline, same treatment, same everything. Only on two or so occasions in recent memory have I had to deal with this sort of situation, it never got physical though. Both times the girls were severely intoxicated and got violent when I disagreed with what they said. The second time I was actually warned of this girl being a loose cannon by one of my friends when I first disagreed with some garbage she came out with. She considers herself a gang-groupie of sorts in a predominantly white coastal area. I asked if she had a boyfriend that was with her. I saw her smile and her eyes widen, like I was asking her out. To make matters worse I then added "So I can settle this with him." But hardly as nicely as I said it here. She then attempted to pour her drink on me and got the guy next to me when I moved. I laughed it off and eventually she left. Moral of the story being you can always ask if she has a male relative or significant other to engage in pugilism with instead.

I'd never attack anyone unless myself or someone I love is in real danger, so this is all in self defense. If, I dunno, a woman stole my phone I'd forcefully yank it back and leave it at that. If some woman (ex) attacked me with fists and there was no risk of injury I'd honestly just let her hit me 'til she gets over it. If some woman who could fight attacked me unarmed I'd try grab her arms and hold her down, wouldn't fight back.

If my life was in danger (e.g a woman attacked me with a knife) of course I would fight back. To be honest if the only way for me to get out alive was for her to die, I wouldn't hesitate. What, am I supposed to have manners and get brutally murdered?

Hitting a woman is the same as hitting a man imo. It isn't necessarily right to hit anyone, but I wouldn't hesitate to him a woman in a self defence situation. I would probably avoid hitting a girl more than hitting a man but if I had to I would.

Yes indeed OP. The problem, in America at least, is that society wants to be politically correct and thus, "no man should NEVER hit a woman." I have to say that I disagree with that. If a woman initiates contact and hits you first out of anger or a disagreement, the man is supposed to sit there and take the hits, repeatedly, without reacting. What's worse is that women actually use this as a reason to put hands on a man. "Oh I know he ain't gonna hit a woman so I'm good."

 

It reminds me of that Cleveland Bus Driver video. The girl is arguing with the driver, and she hits him FIRST, while none of the other passengers are saying anything. The minute he uppercuts the girl, one passenger is in the background saying "that's a f*cking female!" Ridiculous.

Why does that stupid girl have the notion that you can't hit a girl in self defense? Regardless of gender, if someone assaulted you, you have every single damn right to defend yourself and/or fight back. I don't care if you're a foot shorter than me and 92 pounds. If you hit me with the sole intent to bodily harm me, I can defend myself as much as I want.

Women today are still the physically weaker gender, so people will automatically consider the man at fault when there is a fight between the two. Of course a man should defend himself if he is in danger, but it's a very rare occurance that a woman robs a man at gunpoint. Men have to be careful when they confront women. It's not fair, but that's the reality of today's society. It get's more extreme in a working place when you get older. Women will support each other against a man if they feel threatened by that man. Just try to have more people take your side. You can even have a physically strong woman protect you against the other woman who gives you a hard time.

Depends on the situation. If it's an actual criminal doing criminal sh*t, then I'd treat her like any other criminal and go full-auto. If it's just some dumb c*nt being a dumb c*nt (e.g., slapping for a stupid reason), then no, the most I'd go for is a shove. Most men could completely destroy most women with a serious punch. That goes right out the window when you need to defend yourself because the female isn't respecting your right to live. If your life is in danger, due to somebody else, you do whatever you need to. A cop wouldn't simply not shoot a woman aiming a gun at him just because she is female.

As I always say when these kind of arguments arise; women asked and fought for equal rights, if they want to dish out a load of abuse and hit men, then the man can hit the woman back. They fought to be treated equal, so therefore they will be treated equal.
