Idle animations

Idle animations would be cool in GTA V. When you have the character standing around, not moving him and he'll start to do something automatically. So let's say Michael is standing near a car and he'll do this:

Or when close to a wall he'll lean against it. When close to a bench and the player not moving the character around, he could start to sit down on it or whatsoever. It's a small thing, but would be a cool detail. I have a very nice example:

A few other games have this too, probably RDR and MP3 as well, but i haven't tried it out. Wouldn't it be a cool addition?

Leafy Hollow

Some ideas: Flicks a lighter, listens to an iPod, ties shoe, sits on the ground, leans on nearby wall, examines weapon. (Conker had the best Idle animation ever.)

We had some simple ones in GTA IV, like drying yourself off in the rain. More advanced ones would be pretty nice, though.

I think in GTA2 the idle protag smokes, which is pretty cool...

And in Splinter Cell Conviction, Sam will lean against walls etc

And in GTAIV (and I think SA too) I kinda liked how the camera would focus on passing cars or peds..

I hope for stuff like this in GTAV too. Maybe if you stand near a bench, they would sit down...

Smoking for all three, yes. But Trevor must scratch his nuts.

Yep and sometimes it would happen that the camera focused on two fighting pedestrians and what not, really cool stuff. Some very nice examples mentioned here.

Im glad someone else but me still remembers good ol' Conker...

yeah i agree Conker had/still has the best idle animations around.

(I would LOL when he would whip out porn magazines if you waited long enough) lol.gifcookie.gifcookie.gif

conkers bad fur day one of the best games of all time! ive played that game so many times, even the one on xbox.

OT: i think having a conversation on the phone would be the best, he can even just be standing there texting or playing a game on his phone.

Idle animations could be character-dependant: Michael could examine his fingernails and the soles of his shoes, and fiddle with his watch; Trevor could scratch his ass and other bits; Franklin could box the air with his fists.

How about picking your nose and tasting it? or scratching your butthole and sniffing your finger? icon14.gif

We're talking about the game, not your own habits!

I think in Red Dead Redemption, John would scratch the back of his leg with his boot or sometimes pull out a cigarette and smoke it. I don't think there were any in Max Payne 3.

In GTA IV though, Niko would crack his knuckles, wipe the rain off himself, check his shoes and a few more. I think in San Andreas CJ would sing any songs from your most listened to Radio Station or the camera would zoom in on random mishaps such as people talking to each other or getting into fights.

I think there should be more varied animations in V. For Michael, I think he should dust off his clothes or adjust his jacket or belt. With Trevor, I think he should slap flies off his neck or scratch his crotch (which I think Niko did aswell in IV) and with Franklin, I think he should adjust his standing posture, flip his phone out and examine it or adjust his clothes depending on what he is wearing.

I really like that idea of each character having their own individual types of idle animations that best reflects their personality. If they do indeed show up in game it would be an awesome addition, really showing R*'s commitment to detail biggrin.gif

I'd like to see Trevor picking his underpants from his arse crack when idle. Or even smelling his armpits.

Maybe Franklin could check his breath for freshness.

I'd like go add johnny in tlad would put his hand up to block the sun

I want such a feature to be character dependant but also dependent on clothing

Niko in a smart snappy suit scratching his nuts was so out of place in IV

Michael could straighten his suit or buff his shoes (mr bean meets the queen?)

Franklin could stretch or play fetch with chop, maybe even push-ups if you wait long enough

Trevor... Well r* could get creative there, I can see him slapping himself on the face, fiddling with his nuts or picking his ear...

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

IIRC, in San Andreas when you idled, the camera would zoom in on female pedestrians as if CJ was checking them out.

I feel like that kind of worked, the fact that Niko didn't seem to fit in well with a suit. He's not really a super sophisticated guy, he's a grizzled war veteran from a conflict-torn homeland with lots of problems, and he's just not used to wearing a suit.

Of course, a character like Michael should be a bit different, as he's used to wearing a suit. And I agree, idle animations being affected by factors such as type of clothing makes sense. Weather's also a good factor, I liked how Niko reacted to the rain. Stuff like that just makes the characters seem more real.

I'd love if they leaned against a car/wall or sat on benches when close to one. Michael also should adujst his clothes and smoke cigarettes. Franklin, well, check his clothes too and interact with chop. He could also occasionally clean his phone on his shirt. And Trevor could do all kinds of funny sh*t.

If i remember correctly, sometimes the camera also focused on booty and boobies

Is it me or was the Xbox version worse. Sure the graphics were better but they edited out alot of the cussing. Just didn't feel the same. I was thinking the exact same thing about Conquer's animations before I read your post.

yeah i can definitely imagine that in the game when its idle suddenly you see that each one of the 3 characters are doing something unique to their style eg

michael will start smoking some expensive cigar..

trevor will do something crazy lol idk what

and franklin will sing a rap song perhaps

that would be cool

I liked how smoking worked in the game 'The Saboteur'

When idle they should light up a fag and then discard it when the controller snses button press/movement from the player.

Slightly going off on a tangent here but but it would be funny if each character had their own smoking.

Trevor with a big cigar

Frankling with a big roll up or something

and Michael with some Redwood Cigarettes

Reading some of your replies i didn't even realize how there have been idle animations for so many of their games already. I like how John Marston in RDR would lean against a pole or tree and just relax, very atmospheric. I believe he stopped doing that as soon as the camera was back to normal though and it was always after finishing a mission. I think we'll definitely see several ones from all three guys.

Trevor should talk to himself, Franklin should practice throwing up gang signs and Michael should light a cigar.
