I'm a young white hillbilly from an unincorporated hick town out in the boonies of West Virginia. I don't have any gang responsibilities. No peer pressure. No drive bys wasting any friends of mine. None of that sh*t. And I STILL wanted better things. So I got into possibly the best college in the state. Marshall University. I completed my first year. But I STILL feel trapped in this state. I want to move to San Francisco one day. But you know what? It's NOT easy. Improving your life is one of the hardest things you can do. To be a success takes a massive undertaking, a near-impossible endeavor in which you give up almost everything that's near and dear to you simply for the CHANCE that sh*t might improve. To be a failure though? All you have to do is absolutely nothing. But yeah, you won't improve your life by putting out a little bit of effort here and there. Now picture somebody from some sh*thole hood where people kill each other over the stupidest most meaningless sh*t you can imagine. And as much as they would like to leave, they have friends to keep alive and family to provide for. Now imagine THAT poor bastard trying to make something of himself.

The hood life is vicious cycle that's hard to escape. I go school, & make lil money on side, but still get caught up in hood bs. @OP: They're still at war because they're still the same gangs, even if it's a different era. That's actually realistic. Where I live, there are gangs at war that have been at each others' throats for over 28 years now. The leader of one of the gangs wasn't even born when the war started. That's just how it is. For example, there are a ton of Bloods and Crips that don't even know how the fighting started but they still fight on.
