universetwisters
Street races are awesome. No, let me correct that, street races are friggin' awesome. Yeah. I loved the races in GTA 4. Now don't get me wrong, street races are awesome, and I can't wait to see what Rockstar has in store for street races in GTA 5, but I'm a little concerned that they'll be exclusive only to Franklin, seeing as he's playing the role of the "wheelman". It would be cool to street race as Trevor or Michael, but I don't see them playing the part, seeing as Trevor is probably so methed out of his mind he won't even be able to grip the wheel, and Michael's probably too busy planing out heists to concern himself with street racing. So, what do you guys think? Think street racing will be for everyone, or just for Franklin?
Guest
An old bloke or a drug addicted red-neck wouldn't be taken seriously in the world of illegal street racing. And on the subject of street races, they need a major overhaul. In IV they were incredibly easy and lacked any substance. Hopefully in V we'll get progressive street races, similar to something you'll see in a proper racing game. By this I mean you'll start in slower cars and move your way up to faster cars, unlocking new vehicle parts along the way.

twistedweather
Trevor could race in a junkyard derby style race on the flats on in Blaine county. or Killing some hillbilly participant in street race. Racing was all thru IV Michael racing :-/ Not sure what Franklin special move is going to be like Ivd never played MCLA. Cant wait to try out the new driving mechanics and customizing your ride for a street race
krammkracker
Hopefully they are better than in GTA IV... they were sooooo easy and boring, I never felt challenged.
KrushLTx10
Franklin will obviously be the main racer out of the 3 because he's specialized in driving. I think R* will allow you to race with any of them though. They need to overhaul the whole GTA IV race system and actually make it challenging. With the bigger map you'd think they'd do just that. Chukkles
Michael does triathlons and marathons. Trevor does aircraft racing. Franklin does cars and boats. I wouldn't be pissed off by this.
Dick Justice
Street races need to be based around in-game possessions. You need to buy a garage (or get one for free with the Collector's Edition) to store cars you purchased legally/won at street races. These garages are different from the ones you have with safe-houses because cars you own are placed inside and constantly respawn. Now, on to actual races. They need to be harder, and it needs to be more risk vs reward. Imagine, at the start of the race you have to choose how much cash you put in, and if you lose that race, you lose your money, but if you win, you win big depending on how much you put down. If I put down $10,000 and I win a race against three other drivers, I win $30,000. If I lose, it's bye-bye money. Oh, and the more you put down the harder the race will be, so you can't just throw down $100,000 dollars for easy cash, that race will be literally impossible. Alternatively, if you own a car legally (you purchased it with in-game funds and it's in your garage), you can put down a pink slip instead. This car is then evaluated by the other races and they put whatever it's worth down in money; for example, I put down a pink slip for the Hotknife you get with the Collector's Edition, and then other racers worth it at $60,000, then that's how much they have to put down in order to race. Obviously, I am running the risk of losing my super-precious Hotknife, but if I'm confident enough that I'll win then I can get an easy payday. Occasionally, you will race a driver who's as confident as you, and they'll bet their pink-slip too. This is a way to get unique vehicles and hard to obtain cars that you can then place in your garage and use freely throughout the game. Again, it's all about risk vs reward, because a reward without a risk is just plain boring. Also, street races will pay up way more than $500 like they did in IV, which is all the more incentive to actually race.

Grand Theft Savage
I hope they are. I every protag to have their very own activities. At least 2 for each protag. Franklin - Gang Wars / Racing Trevor - Drug Wars / Distribution Michael - Family Activities / Something that involves having a sh*t load of money
Intstringeger
I wouldn't be surprised if some activities are character exclusive. The reason they put three characters in the game was to not have them doing things that don't fit their stories. About the races, as others have said, I hope they are more fun and challenging than in IV. The AI drivers couldn't take a corner without crashing for the life of them. Just because he'll have the special ability (I think) doesn't mean the rest can't drive lol They might consider street racing to be an activity that only fits Franklin. If they do something like that, it won't be too bad, because you can just switch. I bet Michael and Trevor will have stuff that's exclusive to them as well. Who knows though, because Trevor has been on dirt bikes and the Bandito in images/trailers. If nothing else, he seems like he would be into off-road racing and Michael could also be into cars. Maybe each character will have their own specific race types or something? Or maybe Franklin will be the only one who can race in the beginning, but once the other characters get better at driving they can race too. I think he'll be the only one doing those things and franklin will drive cars boats and bikes, Trevor will fly planes. All in races of course, well except yoga, can you yoga race? Infact Trevor may also be the boat man.

Human error, human error everywhere. I've played my fair share of multiplayer races in GTA IV and human opponents are way more challenging than the AI in singleplayer (which is to be expected, of course). I grant you that human players also crash a lot in this game, but I've rarely seen a race where people took the racing seriously instead of trying to ram other cars and cause mayhem. Single player Stunt Plane Trials let you take on additional aerial challenges spread throughout Los Santos and Blaine County. That means there must be aerial challenges in the standard game. It does make sense for Trevor to get the aerial challenges and possible air races? Franklin could have the car/bike races, and Michael does look like the type to do triathlons/marathons. Yeah, a preview said that Michael walks like a tough guy, but his run reflects his age. But I think trialithons fit Franklin.
