Supernutz40
Hi all, I have the collectors edition ordered and was beginning to wonder whether its worth also ordering the SE aswell and keeping the CE unopened just in case Rockstar keep everything in the CE exclusive to it. Thus making it worth alot more in the future. Thoughts Please I very much doubt that just GTA V collectors edition would be 'worth a lot' in the future. Maybe £10 more or something Unless you've got all the GTA's unopened from GTA I, so you have a proper collection, there's no point. Wrong. 25 years from now it will be considered 'vintage' and will be worth a small fortune. Just have the console in good working order and store it in a sealed box to keep the dust out. Look at other things that are 25 years or more older. For example Star Wars figures, Pac Man Arcade machines, all of these increase in value, whether you have the full set or not. Back in 1995 I sold my entire Star Wars collection for $1,000 and I didn't even have the full set. One day I plan on packing my Ps2 away with all the games. It will be worth heaps sometime in the future. Umm. Atari. I have 3 Nintendos because I thought "we'll sh!t, these will be worth something some day", they are, like 50-100 bucks. Whoopdy do. The only games really worth anything are the old Nintendo competition ones, and that flintstones one that was a blockbuster exclusive. Oh, and the Japanese porno ones. Even still, not that much. Kuunkulta
The collector's edition's value will most likely peak just after release date when all reviews are out and people know it's a big hit. Late comers will want it then. In further future, it might be worth something but I doubt it being opened or not really matters as long you have everything that originally came with it. Pre-ordered one and I will open mine. All the stuff I will spread on a shelf to show off. Same as I do for all my collector's editions. They're good decorations. I agree with this. The CE will be a big right around the game's release date. The CE is already rather hard to come by as evident by all the threads we've seen here complaining that their stores only have 5 CE's available etc...I'm sure that some people who are excited about GTA, but haven't been following it every second will want one. One thing I disagree with, is it being opened or closed when you sell it. If you want to make money off of selling the CE, then you'll have to sell it for more than $150. If you typed in the CE on ebay and saw 10 listings for example, all priced at $250, you're going to buy the one that wasn't opened because you're paying $250. Buyers will automatically skip to the listing that has starred *never opened*. To the nay sayers, this actually works. I remember my friend who bought a "Star Wars: The Old Republic" CE and sold it for twice it's original value one week after release. Today the game is no longer as popular, and the value for CE is approximately 1/4 its original value. You didn't notice my phrasing "in further future" by which I meant 10+ years. Ofc if you want to sell the CE right after release for profit, it has to be unopened. But what I meant is, in 10+ years I don't think any possible buyers care too much whether it's opened or not. And like mentioned above, in 10+ years I doubt anyone is too interested in this game. Both Xbox 360 and PS3 will most likely fade into history and be valued 50-100 bucks by people who currently pay the same for SNES.

I'm not exactly sure why, but I have this large notion that something labeled as a "collector's item" goes down in value if it's been opened from the original package. I agree that farther in the future the game won't be worth much though.
wwinterj
That is not true in my case, some people just have more money than others. Less sense then others don't you mean?

I don't know, the problem with games is that they get outdated and the market diminishes. Graphics, features and user interfaces move on but the game stays the same, very limited amount of population care to play outdated games. For example, how many people still play PS1 games? But I don't know, I have thought about this a lot as I have bought several limited collector's editions of big game releases... I ended up opening them and putting them on display to enjoy them, in the end I don't care about their resale value, they're part of MY collection
Hustlebanks
My Collectors editions will be open before I even leave the Game Stop I Pre ordered from. So for me its not worth it. But can understand if others won't open theirs ever. To each its own.

Killerdude
Doubt it will be worth anything... Just because it is called "Collectors Edition" doesn't mean it will ever be worth money...Maybe if it was signed?... but its hardly rare... nor Collectable. You have to think, if its costing you $150 now, how much do you think it will be worth when you cannot play it? (wont play on that gen console, nor will TV's have connectors for old consoles, likely even HDMI will be redundant by then.) Would you like to buy a collectors edition light globe? $3,000 Actually why not buy 2? one to use, and one to store for 20 years. It's not as if the xbox 360 will pop out of existence on the release of the xbox one... However, I do agree that if you want some value you could try to get it signed True that the Xbox 360 will still be around for awhile after the Xbox one is released, but how much do you think it will be worth then? when there are still heaps of collectors editions around? Value in collectables is all about rarity, quality and demand. I cannot see this, being rare nor in demand... its GTA V... it's not as if it is a break through in gaming technology or history... in 10 years it will be nothing special. By keeping his copy unopened, in about 10-15 years it will still be in mint condition and will at that time, be quite rare. But a rare game no one wants to play. Nobody wants to play GTA V? Truly unfortunate.
ugotsmoked
But a rare game no one wants to play. Nobody wants to play GTA V? Truly unfortunate. In 10-15 yrs when we are on GTA VIII or later V will seem like GTA 2.
