Anyone get a Heat vibe from this picture?

This one too. Immediate Heat vibe.

Hopefully the voice acting is more like Heat and less like LA Takedown.

That's very Heat. I see what you mean.

Franklin is the Al Pacino here..... Michael is DeNiro.

I hadn't seen this pic until now but when I was watching the GTA V O'clock video, they mentioned a mission "The Blitz" that the protags were in a truck and rammed an armored van. AS they were saying that, I immediately thought "that's exactly what they did in Heat".

Even the truck they use looks the same.

ALso many of the missions from past games have been related to films. Often using lines from film in their mission names and quoting the films in cut scenes. A lot of them would go un noticed by most players. I have probably missed a lot of them myself.

Absolutely. When a plane is landing the place will be lit probably too.

I can't wait.

I really get a Heat vibe from this photo because at the end of Heat, Al Pacino's character and Robert De Niro's character square off at an airport at night and also has a similar vibe like that. Am I the only one who picked up on this?

no I actually had the same thought, it was pretty awesome and I hope we will see a similar showdown, was epic, loved the movie !

Airport showdown, confirmed!

Here's the part in GTA V O'clock where they talk about this topic. They basically alk about how the missions are taken from movie scenes and how the mission they were able to see is very similar to Heat.

Working on the embed. I don't use this forum often. Screw. I dunno.

Just go to the URL

Michael = Robert de Niro

Franklin = (the driver) Dennis Haysbert. Who died in the last heist.

Trevor = Kevin Gage. The one who got killed by Robert de Niro at the end of the movie.

This is going to be a Lance Vance Dance all over again. lol.gif

Arguably one of the best heist movies ever. More of a drama than a clever heist like Inside Man. But a better tale a cheekiness between cops and criminals. A really good look at both sides of the story

franklin lookin like a f*ckin backstabbing traitor here.. hope not

That's exactly what I thought. I thought he looked like a traitor there as well.

For me he looks like he's gonna kill the traitor on the last mission. I think Franklin is loyal, although is my least favorite character.

Yes, we see shots from that mission in Michael's trailer; where the truck rams into the secure van.

FranticFatality
Actually, the real lesson learned in Heat was, "it's hard to find good help these days." De Niro's crew had their act totally together, but hiring that Waingro f*ck destroyed everything. That was the cheap plot device in Heat that was used to drive the story.

Well if Michael tries to kill Franklin and Franklin escapes he would indeed try to screw everything up. But we all know that's not gonna happen. What I do see happening is Lamar double crossing Franklin because he ditches his homies at some point. Maybe we'll see a bunch of cops waiting outside when we made a score? Regarding Heat, yes the screen reminds me of Heat. That scene was so awesome! I'd really like to see a cop be the main antagonist again. I want some cool criminal enemies as well, but the main antagonist must be a cop that's always on top of Michael and his crew. An actual good cop, who's always real close to catching Michael, but Michael outsmarts him with his experience time and time again. And finally, a Heat style show off between the two. We should almost feel bad for killing the cop, he should be the first main antagonist in GTA to not be a crooked man, the first antagonist that doesn't deserve to die if you get what I mean. There must be this competitive relationship between the two, not really hostile (you'd almost feel as if they're friends) but more of a challenge to eachother. Just the best of the best of both sides going toe-to-toe, no hard feelings towards eachother. Really hoping to see an antagonist that is actually an awesome guy you don't want to kill but have to. He should be like Axel Foley or those two detectives in Bad Boys (their names have gone by me). That would bring some epic scenarios.

f*ck the police

What a well thought out post. suicidal.gif

On topic, yes, I do get the Heat vibe too. I'm loving the Heat references but I'm hoping they don't overdo it.

It's GTA not a Heat videogame. Just because it's set in LA and has references to action movies doesn't mean it revolves around Heat.

I really do admire the favoritism of characters based on what you hear, see and believe. I thought the whole prejudice/stereotypes was only reduce to those who can't read nor write and understand a culture outside their own. turn.gif

Yeah he's my least favorite as well but the ambitious type are always quick to betray their roots. Sometimes. If he betrays his gang banger heritage, who's to say he won't betray his thief life style for something better? But maybe he's loyal.

It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the screenshot, too. Along with Michael's character in general for a few similarities. Even appearance, until the voice actor was confirmed anyway. Kind of reminds me of how Robert Deniro's character Neil would've turned out if he got out before the bank heist and attempted to live a normal life with his girl. I say this because he had plans to go to New Zealand after the bank job, which kind of kills the LA setting. I don't really see him having the opportunity or the motivation to turn witness against his crew, either. The lure of his criminal contacts and getting back into crime so easily while still living in LA would've been a constant reminder. Rockstar have been referencing Heat since Vice City with the hockey masks in the robbery. Most of my favourite 80's and 90's movies have been touched on at some point. Definitely major appeal for their games for me personally.

I'm pretty sure Rockstar has outright said one of the Protagonists will also be an Antagonist.

Yeah but now...Houser that this would be an idea just at the conceptual level. Never said it would be in the game. Still a possibility, though. Good thought.

Blasphemy! No but seriously, you need to watch it before you play V. The ramming of the Armoured truck in Michael's trailer, even the way he pushes the guard out of the back is the same. You'll even be able to wear the same clothes (overalls & hockey masks), seeing as we have to purchase all the equipment ourselves.

Like the OP has pointed out, Rockstar will be referencing it quite a bit & it'll be fun to be able to spot them. It's also Michael Mann's best film, by a long shot. It was also the first time Pacino & De Niro acted together, they were both in Godfather II but DeNiro played the younger Brando).

That's very Heat. I see what you mean.

This picture looks like Neil McCauley's phone call to the big shot stockbroker, Van Zant, who tried to double-cross and kill Neil at the money / bonds exchange:

                       NEIL (O.S.)

           John Van Zant?

                         VAN ZANT

           Yeah.    Who's this?

                       NEIL (O.S.)

           Neil McCauley.

Van Zant reacts, racing, trying to cover.

                       VAN ZANT

This kid I sent to straighten

you up on the money... didn't

           call. Is ... uh... everything

           alright?

                       NEIL

               (laid back)

Tell you what: keep the money.

                         VAN ZANT

           What?

                       NEIL

               (slow)

           "... keep ... the ... money."

                      VAN ZANT

              (fast)

It's a lot of money!    What are

          you doing?

                      NEIL

              (slow)

What am I doin' I'm talking into

          an empty telephone.

                      VAN ZANT

          I don't understand.

                      NEIL

              (matter of fact)

'Cause there is a dead man on

the other end of this line...

Neil hangs up.

from the Heat script at IMDB.

EDIT:

Here's the double-cross scene:

Here's the phone call:

Im tired of people thinking one of the three is gonna turn bad and betray the group. We control all three characters, so it would be dumb to make one an antagonist because then well have to kill them and that would make the multiple protag idea seem like a waste. The sooner you guys realize that the better
