MosquitoSmasher
GTA IV's driving experience was fabulous, i think i speak for a lot of people when i say that after GTA IV's driving, it's just practically impossible to get used to the handling and physics from other games in the same genre, right? Crackdown 1 and 2 - Ok Saints Row 1 to 3 - terribruh!!!!! Sleeping Dogs - Really bad Watch_Dogs (It's not out yet..but look at the gameplay video..that driving ...nahhhh) And despite that in GTA IV, the cars would lean a bit too much now and then, it was so good that it just ruined i for all the other games. I truly enjoyed Sleeping Dogs on foot, but the driving experience was just zero fun, absolutely no weight in these cars at all, no lean, nothing that made it even remotely similar to GTA IV. It felt arcade and it felt almost cheap....if that game had the handling and physics of IV, wow. Either way...GTA V is most likely to improve upon GTA IV's handling and physics and Dan Houser said it would be similar to high-level racing games. Today i bought Forza Horizon and normally i don't care about these kind of games, as great and fantastic looking Forza is...the simulation Forza games are just not my cup of tea. But Horizon is the perfect mix of a bit arcade and a bit simulation and the way these cars handle and feel is an absolute joy. If Rockstar actually took a look at multiple games for improving the cars, i hope they looked at Forza Horizon and less at Forza 4, cause the handling was simply too stiff here. If you have played Horizon, would you agree that a driving experience similar to this would be fantastic for GTA V? If you haven't...try the demo out and tell me. What would you guys prefer? To have it feel more arcade and that the handling is more loose? Kinda like Midnight Club: LA and the original NFS: Most Wanted? Or more like a mix between GTA IV and Forza Horizon? Yes that's a rather odd comparison, but i truly think that kind of handling could work great. So This? Or this: Where lies your preference? Archangelsky
Personally I prefer the driving in Mafia II in front of GTA IV. The cars in Mafia II at least in my opinion behaved quite a bit better then the ones in GTA IV, they also had more weight and a better feel. I am not sure what to think about the driving in GTA V yet but I hope it is even better then Mafia II.

MosquitoSmasher
anything is better than gta IV driving Anything? So you would put handling from Midnight Club in GTA V? Hey to each his own, but this would really ruin the driving for me and it would be a return to the PS2 era GTA games, we can't have that.
Neckbeard
As far as I remember I really liked Mafia 2's driving
MikeyB
Another vote for Mafia II handling. The only problem with Mafia II was that the cars were old and crap, but they did feel more natural. (I may actually put the disk in and remind myself of the experience) If GTA V was the same as GTA IV I would still be happy.

Yes I agree, Horizon's handling physics are excellent. If GTA V's cars drive like that it would be awesome. Unlikely but I would settle for a refined version of what they have in IV. EDIT for clarification: That is GTA 4 not Forza 4 I was taking about at the end of my post. Edited June 1, 2013 by NorthwindJME
GrandMaster Smith
IV's physics just need a slight tweak in suspension and torque and I'd say they'd be perfect. Reverting back to San Andreas style car physics would be a slap in the face and a very bad move for the series imo. If you can't learn to brake into a turn rather than expecting to make it going 65mph by slamming the e-brake at the last moment then you're probably not old enough to even buy the game. wwinterj
Can't say I'm a fan of the driving in GTA IV. I prefer the more arcade feel of past GTA games.
The New Blueguy
I realized after watching that Midnight Club LA video that we've more or less known what GTAV would look like for 5 years now albeit with way better graphics and physics.
Raavi
Watching those videos only makes me more certain, I want IV driving with very slight tweaks. I hate arcade feeling. I want to drive like I drive in real life. Both IV TBOGT vanilla and IV with some tweaking and a couple of modifications allowed me to do so. Arcade would ruin the experience for me. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

Leafy Hollow
I remember seeing Micheal do a reverse u-turn, continues to drive backwards, and then spins back around all at full speed by the jet at the end of his trailer. I would like to know how that would handle considering that sequence of moves was pretty much impossible to do in GTAIV. But overall GtaIV's handling is great if you can get used to it (like any other game).
MuXu96
I agree, after GTA IV other open world driving mechanics SUCKED BALLS HARD really hard. GTA IV driving was a new step forward for me, sure it had it's issues, but pls no watch dogs/sleeping dogs/just cause 2 driving anymore, I'm getting sick of it
mattfab
I remember a read something on this forum that someone that saw the demo from reddit said the driving looked like midnight club la, but idk if it was legit. I'm playing gta iv now tho, and with the police cruiser whenever I go fast and turn a lot, I usually flip, so that needs to be fixed. But I still like the gta iv driving physics, and rockstar did say it wouldn't be "boat like" like gta iv's driving is.
MetalMilitia
GTA series has always, always the best driving experience ever, its not tacky, its not sh*t , thats how it should stay, i loved GTA SA/IV driving
Distrom
Even if GTA IV driving feels boatlike, it feel a lot more realistic than NFS game or other driving or Sanbox games IMO, the only thing that looks sh*tty in WD for example, it's the driving, arcadish as hell
mattfab
I hope the camera won't follow the car straight on like sleeping dogs or saints row, cuz I like gta iv's the most along with previous gtas

I'm sure that some people from MCLA were specifically working on the car physics, and there were numerous mentions of the cars sticking to the ground more, which helps bolster the idea. Indeed. But I don't hope the camera is "cinematic" like in IV, it was kind off angled to the right(?) Can't remember, but it was annoying as hell. I had to hold my thumb on the thumbstick to the left to be able to "center" it. It should be centered. I loved Sleeping Dogs driving physics, but I would not love it in GTA. GTA 4 was okay, but it felt a little boat-like as said by Dan Houser himself. They should fix this in V, which they are doing.
Booya818
I too love the driving in IV. I hope they just tweak it slightly to make it less boat like and add better car noises.
73duster
GTA's car handling has NEVER been one of it's better features. GTAIV was awful. It was unrealistic, and the suspension was the absolute worst part. It's like the cars have NO shocks.

It's like the cars have NO shocks. Unrealistic, excuse me? GTA IV's handling was anything but un-realistic, it actually felt like I was driving where as in racing games it feels like I'm driving a brick with very stiff handling. Sure it could use some tweaking, but the base of it is top notch. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

Sure it could use some tweaking, but the base of it is top notch. Race cars use a much stiffer suspension. GTA is based on all types of vehicles, and should handle as such. High performance cars should have a hard suspension, and brake batter than most cars. While luxury cars, as well as older cars have a much softer suspension. In GTAIV, all cars felt and handled like they had broken shocks. The cars were too bouncy and swerved all over the place. This is NOT realistic. I'm not bashing GTA as a whole, because these games must do everything, whereas racing games are all about the cars and driving.

lazloisdavrock
Seriously if the driving is like midnight club, i wont be buying a collectors edition , i would buy a normal version as I just wouldnt enjoy the game much with stupid driving like that. infact I would even think about renting the game. Sockpuppet
I want it to be more of a sim racer than an arcade racer. I think it's way better, and more fun, to present the player with fairly realistic driving physics, and let them go nuts with it and figure out how to drive like a proper daredevil, instead of giving us cartoon physics, paper cars that just bounce off each other, and a handbrake that magically makes turns on a dime. I think GTA4 had the right idea, sort of. The feeling of weight was good. They just made (almost) everything too bouncy and wobbly. I realize they were trying to make supercars and beaters feel different, but they went too far. If they just tightened everything up a bit, especially the trucks and low end cars, I think it'd be fine. And since they said they were doing something like that for 5, here's hoping.
